This has been a very exciting British Championship so far. Not many boring draws.

Shreyas looks like he is really storming through the GM norms at the moment - and against very, very respectable opponents at that. I am confident he is quite heavily underrated currently.

Oooofff very cheeky by Jones offering a draw from that position and time.

Interesting game, looked like Gawain had him there and then it got crazy. Basically, zugzwang if he declines the draw. Maybe he thought he was in trouble earlier and after he turned the tables and didn't see a way to finish it off just decided to take the draw and consider it a successful mission. Entertaining, for sure. Hope to see more coverage. Thanks.

Mr. King, do you see a parallel between Shreyas and Gukesh's play? Good opening prep, ambitious style and they both seem to let the position get wild and hope to win through the complications. Thanks for the analysis and coverage.

No I don't see a parallel! Gukesh is just way stronger and I think it is too early to talk about a particular style in Royal's case.

What about Qd2 by Black in the final position? It defends h6 and attacks b2.

Very strange to accept a draw

Agreeing draws in Positions like this should not be allowed. Yeah it's not feasible to weed out dead Positions from those in the ruleset, but it's a shame, it completely goes against the competetive spirit. This game obviously wasn't finished, but was cut short, by players agreeing they actually don't feel like playing the game out they came here for. Imagine a soccer Team just walking of the field Minute 76 at 1:1, because like they were tired and a draw is a nice result, better than losing anyway, therese a new game tommorow I guess. Hard to fault the players, when the ruleset allows this behaviour, no coherent way to fix the ruleset. I'd go as far as calling this the biggest and most fundamental Problem of competetive chess, an otherwise nearly flawless game
