Sakurai actually said during the treehouse live at e3 earlier this year when playing Ridley, he showed the standing taunt and mentioned how he liked the taunt because it shows how tall and big Ridley actually is. So it's safe to say that's why that taunt was included, to show Ridleys actual size.

BREAKING NEWS: RIDLEY IS NOT AS HEAVY AS WE THOUGHT. I saw some footage (in the treehouse playthrough) where kirby swallowed Ridley and did 15% to a nearby inkling. This swallow move is weight based and 15% puts ridley anywhere from 98-103 weight. Mario to Ryu. he's a middle-heavy.

I like how perfect shields have changed into parries. Before, you'd get perfect shields accidentally whenever your opponent was exactly a frame late on a punish and you buffered shield, which creates a kinda fluctuating reward/punishment dynamic.

I think you're dead right regarding Ridley's down special. It'll have very limited utility and no decent player would walk into it. Excellent observation in that it feels like a custom version! Definitely agree!

I personally see it being a ledge get-up read option. If you are skilled enough to predict your opponent's habits in this regard then I can see it being an absolutely devastating tool - one that decides games. Unless Sakurai ends up nerfing it before release, I predict you will witness high-level players commonly positioning themselves just far away enough from the edge to nail the sweetspot on it while also being in place to punish a roll option with something else.

I think the dark gray+yellow skin just just a placeholder for the actual Meta Ridley skin, which they may be still working on. Alts like that seem to be among the last things they finish. I remember the official Facebook account mentioning that the programmers were determined to finish the two-piece Zero Suit alts in time for the release of Smash 4-the ones modeled after the Super/Fusion endings and the Zero Mission endings.

To be honest, it looks like Down B has an incredibly small sweet spot, and, given that and its start up, it doesn't seem very practical unless the shield is broken or something. I do, however, think Ridley as a whole will be strong, just not this specific move.

Down B is one of the better(?) punish tools in the game, similar to how Robin's drain can heal for a huge amount against higher damaged opponents. Dealing 40-50 damage in 1 attack is huge, and since rolls go to a set location if you can read or see people falling into a pattern you can punish them by taking effectively half their stock in 1 attack... and since he has early kill moves... he may be able to finish off people in literally 2 attacks with no charging his smash...? I'm not an expert, so feel free to correct me, but it looks to be like this... which is essentially a fixed Rest from Jigglypuff at this point. If you hit with it there is no potential death type luck.

Dragoonsoul7878 rest is frame 2. Not frame 30. Robin's down B beats shields, meaning it can be used as a mixup. Ridley's down B will never kill by itself. It needs work

Another thing people don't realize is that he will have the biggest hurtbox in the game more. So he's an easier target to hit... I'm still using him and I love the colors they gave him, btw I think the gold is also referencing the gold space pirates you fight in Metroid, he is the captain of the space in pirates. Thanks for making a video on him and hope you do videos like this one to new fighters even though they said they're not going to be that many.
