As an Irish person I am contractually obligated to correct anytime we get put with the English, Connell in Normal People plays an Irish sport called Gaelic Football. It's very old (like 1000's of years old) and is one of the 2 extremely popular native sports. It's only played in Ireland, although Australia has a weird version of it. It's very different to soccer, American football, and rugby. Hope this add some colour to your reading of the book ^.^
