Also, what I love about ya, Izaw, is how you, a professional Smash Player, is teaching us what we have to do to become good ourselves, and you still deeply earn my respect on that. Keep up the good work, and we'll wait patiently for the next "Art of" video next time.
@Rhy2412TitanGamer5 жыл бұрын
Welcome to my SSBU text character guide! Simply put, I want to inform people on the character Izaw is covered in the video, but with text as an alternative. My goal is to inform players, newcomers, or even veterans on Link in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. *Link* is a flexible rushdown/zoning heavyweight character that excels at pressuring shields with his godlike jumping kicks (nair & bair), flexible projectiles (z-drop bomb pressure with the detonate threat, Boomerang, and arrow), disjointed attacks like Fair, D-tilt, & F-tilt, & with one of the fastest grabs to complement this. He is very good at making opponents want to jump to avoid his projectiles, and this leaves them open for anti-air punishes, which he excels at. On the space control spectrum, Link can surprisingly cover every possible angle with his bomb (the blast on detonation is huge), Boomerang’s multiple angles, and arrows going massive horizontal distances (pretty much covering entire stages when fully charged) makes Link a terror when edgeguarding or when he has stage control Also, Link is much faster in this game than his previous iterations: walk speed (1.188 → 1.247). Run speed (1.3944 → 1.534). Initial dash speed (1.3 → 1.98). His Fast Fall speed has a 90% increase, which makes abusing him in a juggle state harder than usual. His recovery is also very long (one of the longest) with a bomb he can z-drop detonate off-stage. However, Link lacks options when dealing with fast in-your-face pressure, he lacks a burst option in front of him, getting off of the ledge when ledgetrapped, or when his Bomb is used against him (like opponents z-dropping it on him for pressure & nulling one of his best tools). His weight and size also make him combo food, so beware of those flaws. *Jab* - Only use when needed, as it can be shield jumped punished and is risky on shield even when delayed into jab 2 and jab 3. On hit it does lead to tech situations after 20%. *F-Tilt* - Very useful move for ledgetrapping and it’s useful after nair pressure because it mixes the way link pressures up greatly. Can kill at later %s and setup edgeguards. Safe when properly spaced. Can lead to tech chasing at 20%-40% *U-tilt* - Great anti-air and combo starter after a down throw with successful DI reading. Great for covering platforms too. Good against ledge jump. *D-tilt* - Links safest grounded poke (being safe on shield at max range). It’s useful when opponents have been heavily conditioned to angle the shield up to resist nair shield poke pressure, just for them to get shield poked from their legs being left open. Leads to uair if opponents DI in at certain mid %s. Beats ledgestalling. *Dash Attack* - A hard punish on opponents landing in an obvious spot. Most threatening after boomerang is returning and bomb has been tossed to control space. *F-smash* - A hard read whiff punisher. A hard Tech option/Roll punish. And more importantly, A shield poking/ breaking option against damaged shields. *U-smash* - A hard punish on jumping opponents. Can be used after a down throw at low %s to force jumps or air dodges after the 3 hits connect. Committal anti-air. *Nair* - One of the best Nairs. Has a long lasting weak hitbox after the initial strong hitbox and it has only 6 frames of landing lag. Both are safe on shield the closer Link is to the ground when using them, or when spaced, or in cross-ups, making them safe. It also shield pokes ridiculously easily, hitting other characters through shields usually after one attacks hits an opponent’ss shield, giving it terrifying pressure capabilities, tech setups, and combo opportunities. One of the best edgeguarding tools (along with bomb) for its lingering hitbox. *Bair* - almost as good as Nair, but with 2 turn around kicks. Both with 6 frames of landing each. Useful for additional pressure, combo extending, and edgeguarding. Change if only the first hit will connect or if both will connect when using it as a shield pressuring tool to avoid parries. Leads to tech situations at 25% *Uair* - A juggling tool that kills and forces air dodges or jumps with its vertical knockback. 14 frames of landing lag. *Dair* - Link’s only meteor attack. 19 frames of landing lag. Useful for the weaker lingering hitbox for snatching low recoveries off-stage. Landing mix-up with fast fall to land quickly with a hitbox under Link. *Fair* - Link’s spacing disjointed aerial. 11 frames of landing lag. Safe on shield from max range on either hit. The second hit can kill with the first hit leading into grab and other options if coupled with a fast fall with it’s non-existent knockback. Also, it does respectable shield damage if both hit connects with a shield. *Neutral B* - Arrows are useful. Has an arc with good horizontal distance when a charge is applied. Covers infinite horizontal in its line of fire and does good damage when charged. Useful for sniping off the stage, chipping away shields, and covering options like platforms. *Boomerang* - Has a variety of angles that control space and it poses a mixup for opponents when returning because of the hitstun it inflicts leading to combo opportunities and kill confirms. Does decent shield damage and is safe against shield, even at a half-sword’s length (although perfect parry can easily be done at that range). Has many damaging setups at lower %s & is useful for chipping down shields. Great for edgeguarding with its multiple applications (like bouncing it off the side of the stage to hitting lower recovering opponents). *Bombs* - One of the most deadly projectiles in SSBU with its huge radius upon detonating and its hitstun inducing hitbox if it’s moving AT ALL. It can be used to z-drop pressure, anti-air, ledgetrap, shield poke, control platforms, & gimp recoveries. It is also not a one dimensional tool because all of Link’s (and his opponents) moves can hit the bomb, granting it a hitbox and sending it a variety of angles that the opponent has to worry about because of the detonation choking a huge space (unless the opponent is carrying it). The bomb has a HP value (50%? I think?). Anyway, beware of using this tool recklessly because opponents can use it to pressure you and deny access to its utility. *Great Spin* - Link’s only OoS open when jump canceled from shielding and one of his primary recover options. It sends at a very favorable angle for edgeguarding, kills at 85%+ or sends very far away, and can even be a combo ender because of its aerial variants enveloping hitbox which sweeps opponent into the front to be swiped away. One of Link’s more unseen edgeguarding tools against vertical recoveries because it forces tech lest the opponent get stage spiked. Is still useful against horizontal recoveries if a stock lead is present. *U-throw* - The kill throw. Can be useful at low % because it puts opponents above you. *D-throw* - The combo throw. Opponents can alter the knockback angle with DI, but mixups are guaranteed. *B-throw* - Positional advantage throw. *F-throw* - Positional advantage throw.

I don't know if anybody will read this, but I found a stupid easy way to reverse your up tilt after a down throw. Here's how you do it.. When pressing "down" for the down throw, do not return the stick to neutral. Instead, roll the stick from towards the top till you get to the diagonal angle you're looking for. From here you can input a buffered reverse up tilt that will be frame perfect.

Also would love to see an art of Robin! I loved how you chose to make guides for some of the less played fighters in Smash 4, would love to see Robin especially if you ever find the time! Thanks

Thank you for this Izaw! I’ve been playing link since 64, and I remember watching you play him in Brawl, during those dark time, you were Always an inspiration! And what I learned from you let my Link hold his own in the local community! Thank you! Would love to see an Art of Zero suit Samus.

Hey IzawSmash, I want to say thank you for explaining each thing you do , i'm ok at smash but not good, but the way you explain spacing and options is very nicely done, please continue as i hope to observe more!

I watched your smash 4 version so and it helped me play better.I'm glad that you made an updated version.Some of the stuff from 4 is still viable like the boomerang which I used since day one but I never realized how good nair is

You can pop the bomb over when its stationary with a low nair and fake opponents with its change in movement. Its very subtle but surprisingly very effective cause moving it by throwing covers too much distance & grabbing and dropping it takes too much time. Its quick and unexpected for certain situations especially ledge trapping (perfect for more complex mind games). The placement and timing can be tricky but labbing it will help obviously.

Aside from being straight to the point and extremely helpful i have to say what a great presentation these videos have, specially how yo chosed music from the character's game it makes very entertaining to watch!
