Smash Ultimate How to Play Pit and Dark Pit: Guide, Tips, Tricks, and Combos

Dark pit main here C: The video has a lot of good information, you have worked a lot in the research of the character, so good job! Some other tips I would like to share is the usage of DownB and SideB offstage. The first one is a really good landing option because it covers the majority of pit's hurtbox, so lots of moves (and proyectiles of course) won't hit them. SideB on the other hand is a nice edge catcher because it's fast enough to make you reach the ledge and has its hitbox in front of pit, making him hit your foe with super armor (also does a ton of shield damage) and making you jump a bit. The dark pit's version of this move is so much better because it will send your opponent forward instead of upward. (It's important to know that this move is risky if your opponent is on top of you or uses multihit moves). Forward throw is a reliable kill option at high percents at the edge. Down throw combos with nair, nair dragdown, upsmash, uptilt (heavies), upair, downair and Reversed bair. I recommend you all to try and be creative, the chase and follow options are infinite I swear. I would recommend using fair and nair as your main landing tools. Pit and Dark Pit are super fun and easy to play. It's so sad they have some terrible hitboxes and blindspots, but at the end they're neat and deserve love.

I am a player who does not main a character. I tend to use many characters. Cloud, Ridley, Corrin, Marth, Chrom, etc. I tend to use fast units that use close range attacks. I am trying to learn how to use every character in the game except the female characters. I am a male and I feel a bit guilty when I use a female character.

The best combo ive been able to get from down throw is down throw short hop sour spot diar into double jump nair, gets just over 30 percent and works until around 30

It also works if you down throw -> full hop downair and then jump nair -> jump fair doing like 40ish percent

The god combo is down throw dair dair nair into grab reset. If you can double dair of down throw you can use nair to carry them to the side blast zones. Yeah Pit has the best combos in the game I love them

Dark pit is better. Idc what people say about his arrows but I personally prefer them. They kill instantly uncharged at sudden death and I get way more arrow kills with dark pit. Pits guidable arrow only kills if you hit them after they have used there last jump. Dark pits arrows are faster and stronger but have a shorter angle of adjustment, but this helps. With Pits arrows you have to guide it with the joystick but with dark pits it’s more about timing, and it allows you to charge your arrow for longer. Add that with the extra power and speed and it kills easier than you’d expect offstage.

@@sebaschan-uwuthe only reason Pits upper cutting side special would work better is if your opponent keeps spamming a dive or plunge move, like Simon’s dive kick, or Sephiroth’s down Aerith. Then All you gotta do is get the right spacing to keep juggling and catching them as they land

Heres a few tips of my own: Pit and Dark Pit’s Reflectors are good landing tools, and you can intentionally break them when a character attacks you in order to land a solid Side Smash. When you’re in the edge and the opponent is edge guarding you try shooting arrows to stop them and quickly recover on to the ledge I go rush in and i pressure against Ai opponents pretty well, however i cant play online unfortunately so i cant say that I’m good or not :(

Glue Man Quick Question: Does the Gamecube Controller influence fast fall or does it have to do with the options of the controls? Cause i try doing those multi hit combos with a quick fast fall but it doesn’t happen even with pro controller Like how many of Joker’s combos are supposedly set up with the first hit of fair

Myro ZVM I believe all controllers can fast fall. All I use is GameCube controller but I have used even joy cons and I can fast fall. I don’t believe it’s a setting difference but I could see fast falling on a pro maybe being a bit harder than GameCube. Those pit combos are very technical, especially the neutral air to neutral air, it requires moving towards ur opponent and then jumping and nairing and the same time and then pressing forward while in the air and then down to land quickly, then u have to move quickly towards the opponent and repeat. Make sure u hold forward in the air cause u need that extra travel distance to reach the opponent before they get out of the hit stun, also make sure ur pressing down to fast fall after pit reaches his peak because if u try fast falling before the character is at the peak of their jump, then they won’t fast fall, has to be at their peak or after, also make sure ur short hopping which I’m assuming ur doing as well. Glue Man The Nair combo you’ve mentioned just now I’ve been doing ever since Smash 4 and it is really easy due to my experience and practice with it. What really bothers me is how fast people do fastfall and dash dance, now that is not my speciality. I do indeed fasfall easily with nair combos not only with Dark Pit but with every character that does multi hit nairs but stuff like first hit of fair to grab combo of Joker is something that i haven’t been able to do :/

While playing with a friend of mine on an online arena and he was beating my ass as Yoshi, then I picked Dark Pit and managed to beat him. I didn't even know how to play him I was just picking random characters. I wish I could enjoy Byleth since FE Three Houses was my favorite game of 2019 but the character is just too slow. < This has nothing to do with the comment, I know, but i just wanted to throw it out there.

I personally prefer dark pit over pit 1. He has better alts 2. i like edgeguarding with electroshock 3. i prefer the damage and knockback of the dark arrows over the maneuverability of the blue arrows and also pit never learned how to read so that makes him bottom tier

how do you use up down tilt?

U tilt the stick u use to move ur character up and down and then press the attack button (not special attack button). Down tilt will work every time but if u have tap-jump on, then up tilt will be hard to do because ur character will jump. I set my tilt attacks to the c-stick on my GameCube so it is easier to do the tilt attacks. Sorry for the late response, hope this helps!

I was watching this guy Kiraflax in a tournament and he does a neutral air from hanging on the ledge right into the opponent. Whenever I try pit goes to high and it doesn't drift toward the opponent. I cant find anything online about this. You wouldn't happen to know the details of this maneuver would you?

Kirk I personally havent tried that technique but I’m assuming he presses down to drop from the ledge then immediately jumps and neutral airs back onto the ledge rather than jumping from the ledge and neutral airing. Try that and see if it works. Jumping from ledge and doing an aerial normally puts u really high up but dropping first then jumping allows y to go lower but u have to be super quick

Wait, is it letting go of ledge or getting on to the stage and attacking the opponent? Cause if its the former you just mash down and quickly do a nair And if its getting on to stage you can just hit Jump+Attack at the same time to do one

Correction, the one of getting on to the stage might be a technique similar to the ones done with up specials (pulling down while preforming the attack on the edge) This is hypothesis however

The attack is a neutral air from the side of the ledge straight into the opponent standing at the ledge. It's like in one motion. Go watch Kiraflax's most recent match to see what I mean

Down throw to up smash is true till around 40%. After that down throw to up air or forward air is true. Also down tilt to up smash is good till around 40% same with down tilt to forward air. You can do the combos more depending if it’s a heavy character.

I’ve noticed that u can start with down throw then to short hop nair then drag down into grab and could maybe repeat the combo depending how idiotic the player is. I suggest this combo because everybody in this situation always shields and the opponent is stuck on ground so they can only shield, jump or tech

I noticed at early percents and against a certain weight of characters, up tilt can combo into up air and I’ve had it kill pretty early against certain characters that it can still work with at high percents and since up tilt can hit above platform it kinda makes it good especially on small battlefield since people retreat to platforms a lot at high percents on that stage and since the platform is low enough if you’re swift enough you could land on platform and get in another up air. The 2nds up air usually only connects when the combo is used at lower to mid percents tho

Dark Pits arrows can be moved as well, not as drastically as Pits but pretty good to a point where you can catch other players jumping or crouching. Loved the video!

Trying to practice with my favorite characters and get some Go-to people. Pikachu and Pit/dark pit are my go to so far. I want a third option (pit and dark pit are prettymuch the same) and I've learned I'm not fond of Magic weilders like Palutena or Robin, I enjoy close combat or direct attacks that I don't have to aim as much. U press the attack button and then press the movement stick down at the same time, if u hold the attack button down while holding the stick down, it charges the move up until u release the attack button. This can be done down, left or right, and then up. Hope this helps!

Project Angel Tier nah I’m good. I don’t main pit or think I’m that great with him as mentioned in the description of the video. I did this video as a help to those who are new to the character or for those want to try to get better who aren’t that great with him. I don’t care that much about how good he really is as people like kiraflax have played him in tourney. Pretty much any character can be played professionally in this game but certain characters like pit have it harder. You’re probably an amazing pit that’s grinded him hard and I’m not doubting that or saying pit should never be played but I think for players who want to pick a main who are looking into a more competitive playing of smash, they may should invest in another character because pit is thought lowly of by most competitive players.

Ashantii best player in the world puts him in the same tier as little Mac and that tier is called “worst than low tier”. The tier list averaging pros opinions on characters has him very very low as well. So he’s pretty bad. Sorry you didn’t like the video, not supposed to be a “pro” guide or anything; however, yes a lot of the comments are helpful information but a lot of the comments are stating things I did state in the video.

Ashantii just checked and zero, mk Leo, armada, leffen, and dabuz all our pit in low tier or lower. And like I said, zero did a video where someone got anonymous tier lists from pros and averaged them into numbers and pit was put into low tier based on their opinion. So maybe pit isn’t low tier but all these good players think he is and yes it’s opinion but if a lot of pros are saying this then it may be true.
