Hey Matt, I'm a 58 year old lady who's husband died a couple of years ago. We met late in life so no children or grandchildren. I don't live where I originated from so am totally alone. The very few family I have left are older than me. So when I go I will likely leave behind the kind of place you find so interesting. If you think that sounds sad, you want to try living it. Very likely the people you wonder about were the same. The fact is some of us have no one to care when we are gone. Hope that explains some questions for you.

Oh Bless ya Deborah❤ I completely get what you’re saying. I only have 2 much older brothers left of my family. I was a late life surprise for my parents. My brothers were already in high school when I came along. They are poorly now & when they are gone, I have no one but my lil fur baby. But, you, me, all who post, shall not be forgotten because your post will be here forever & we have a wonderful chat family now who loves & cares for one another!❤❤❤Blessings from SC USA❤🥰🩷

Matt - you had me cracking up laughing during this whole video! I don’t know why - I just got tickled - I love your corny comments - it feels so good to laugh out loud doesn’t it? I always enjoy seeing Little Bear Boy - so freaking adorable! I have a terrier (Staffy) and they are just so funny and full of energy - it’s entertainment to have them around for sure. I grew up with poodles, my husband had a lab when we got married and now we have a Staffordshire terrier named Louis and he’s just crazy - in a good way. Anyway, thanks for starting my day with a good laugh. I’m praying for Andy to recover quickly. He will be back better than ever - he’s got all of us out here praying for him and sending good energy his way! Take care.

I love that you get sentimental and wonder about the family and why the things were left behind. My mother passed in January of this year. My sister and brother have been going through the house and sorting out all the furniture and photos. I wanted to take lots of time with the cards, document's and photos. Siblings not so much. I am the oldest and refused to live far away. My children had the privilege of seeing their grandparents every weekend. Even once they went to college and got married they were there quite often. Anyway, I had promised Mom her stuff would not be thrown away or forgotten. The house has sold and new owners ( lovely young family) will take over by Christmas. We followed Mom's wishes and nothing was thrown away. I'm 62 and am very sentimental like you. I hope when I pass my children will want to take time to go through the memories. Anyway ( long winded, lol) much love to you and Bear. And of course Andy. Never change who you are Matt, and never apologize for who you are❤.

My 15 year old daughter got diagnosed with a brain tumour in January, she was operated on and most of the tumour was removed but we have MRI scan every 3 months to see if anything has changed. So I am sending love and strength to keep going and keep fighting. ❤

Happy Sunday Matt, Blessings your way!❤ When you were talking about the old pictures & memories just left forgotten, it happened when my Mom passed away in 2022, January. When clearing my childhood home, my parents forever home, bought in the 1950’s, No one wanted anything unless it was valuable!!!😢 Writings of my Mom, photos going back to the 1940’s & possibly older, old school projects & colored Mother’s Day cards my Mom had saved it all because it was precious to her. Yet no one wanted anything, said to just trash it!!😮 I was like NO!! If you guys don’t want, I do!! I had to buy a storage shed to hold it all. I want to go thru it piece by piece!! But it broke my heart to see the things that was trashed that I could not store up. It seems that people don’t value family history via photographs etc..anymore. So sad!😢 Enjoyed the video Matt!❤❤🎅🏼🎄🤶🏼☃️

Loved the explore! You were wondering about footballers and how things were 'back then'. My great uncle played for Sheffield United and West Ham in the early 20th century but still had to work - for a silversmiths in Sheffield. My grandad (his brother) had a trial for Sheffield Wednesday but worked as a Sheffield tram driver and played for the Sheffield Transport team (and his battalion whilst in the trenches in the First War). Many of them worked full time jobs - no mega-salaries back in those days. Larger employers had sports teams and played in local leagues. I have his football medals and awards and fortunately a son who will cherish them when I've gone (or maybe my daughter will want a few as well - they'll have to fight it out lol)

It’s very interesting why homes end up left like that. But it makes me think about that sense of community. I work with a lot of Indians, Asians etc A lot have moved over to Australia where they lived in same town/ village with the whole family. They spend a lot time all together and celebrating family events. They have come to Australia and some have other family’s move done the road others are on their own. I feel in Australia we still friendly and look out for each other but We not very neighborly as we use too. We don’t have elderly living with us . I hope you understand what I’m getting at.

If there was no wind at sea then the kite would not be able to float on the wind and pull the dingy along. I think the kite was to flown really high so that search aircraft could see it, locate the downed pilot and radio ships to pick them up.

Another very good explore Matt but I’m the same as you. I can’t get my head around it why everything just gets left why isn’t there any family to take the house on to rescue all the memories and I watched other explorers who explore houses and they are exactly the same. No one wants to take them on and sort it out it baffles me. And surely they could sell the house and enjoy the money if it’s relations or grandchildren. 👍

17:55 - many ways of accuracy - benchmarking, trig points, sun position, compasses, using the chain unit etc. you’ll find that for the most part maps from 1750’s onwards are fairly accurate. For example, the Greenwich Meridian line originally plotted in late 1700/early 1800’s is only a few metres out from what it has recently been found to be via modern technology! 48:33 - reminds me of Cartoon Head in that Johnny Vegas show “Ideal” 😂

Re map making: surveyors, theodolites, triangulation and probably some dead hard sums. Spherical triggernometry? That's how ships navigated, and why midshipmen went to sea aged about 12, it took a long time to learn it all and one of the captains and officers jobs was to teach them. Matthew Flinders was in the Navy and mapped the coast of Australia if I recall correctly. The Romans managed surveying, building roads and aqueducts, and peoples were probably a lot better at astronomy than we gave them credit for. They just didn't write it all down and leave a record, apart from the Romans so we know more about how they did stuff.
