I think, if you do soft shell again, really try to deep fry it. The way the shells look(like shrimp) deep frying would make them crunchy and you can eat (try) the shells. Forage on!

Definedly deep fry, as soft the claw shell seemed to be it should turn into crispy crunchy treat. Little seasoning on it and should be Hood.

I've never seen it done like that before. But I like the taste of Louisiana style deep fried soft shell blue crabs. Awesome. I wonder what a softshell lobster would taste like if it is battered up and deep fried with a lil spice added to it and some flour or even some breadcrumbs. Also, I wonder if you could eat the entire thing if it was soft enough.

It’s not that there is less meat, it’s that the flesh inside is scaled to its old sized shell. It will grow into the new shell. So only seems less because the new shell is larger in comparison to the flesh inside.

I don't think the meat shrinks, I think it is a new shell so it hasnt grown into it yet. If it was filled, it would be molting again. At least that makes sense to me

Hot shit 😅 Awesome video, appreciate the effort you go to. I've had soft shell crab here in Australia, where a freshly moulted crab is dusted in corn flour and then shallow fried. Was fantastic. Maybe something to think about doing if you find a real freshly moulted one? I think that lobster you had would be too far along to shallow fry and eat the shell etc.

if you get a fresh molted lobster, I think do it like you would softshell crab. Toss it in some seasoned flour, and deep dry it. Make a softshell lobster poboy

Old Bay is the way to go. That’s the Maryland way. I grew up with old bay on blue crab. For some reason, I don’t like crab anymore.

I’m not sure if they do this at your home but, interestingly, we fry soft shell crab, shell and all, and make sandwiches of them. It’s considered a delicacy… at least here in the American Southeast region.

Most people here in Maine, USA prefer the soft shells. You're finding them up higher because it's molting season, they are trying to hide from predators

When you tuck the lobster in, make sure his claws are away from your two veg.

I used to love lobster, shrimp and crab and still do but ever since I heard someone call them the bugs of the sea I have hard time forgetting it. Same way when I crack an egg I have to get that white stuff that’s sticks to the yolk out because it’s basically the underdeveloped chicken fetus and umbilical cord and I can’t eat egg unless I get that out before cooking it.

I've eaten a crab that wen I cleaned it and removed the shell it was about to molt so it had a soft thin skin like she'll under the hard shell I found it quite tuff.

Not that the meat is salty the shells are watery. So like with the claws you can drink the juice/water out of it very good in my opinion. Be careful that will be hot. Also I find soft shell is more sweet and salty than hard shell but with hard shell they have more meat and chewier texture. Not very chew just chewier than soft shell. I’ve done a fair bit of lobstering in maine.

You're overcooking. If you think you've overcooked them submerging in ice cold water will release the meat from the shell if you haven't gone way too far

vinegar or you can add a dash of baking soda to the cooking water. With shellfish, Sorry Smash, learned it from another channel, but bring water to a boil, toss in your shellfish, bring it back up to a rolling boil, then cook for 2 minutes after that.

Wow, ive been watching these lobster foraging vids and i was buzzing to get out to a coastline to do some hunting myself... 4 days and 1 night searching came up with nothing but green shore crabs yet every time i watch your videos, you literally have lobsters crawling around in plain sight... How does this happen?! I need some serious tips!

This is absolutely false. Coming from the Atlantic lobster capital of the world, Maine, I have a fair bit of experience. Here they are called shedders and preferred to hard shells by most people. If your lobster is mushy, you've either undercooked it or way overcooked it
