The Pumpkins were one of those bands [like the Pixies, the Eagles, and so many others] that were hideously dysfunctional, but when they could all stand to be in the same room with each other they were post-punk magic.
@RandyRhoadsRules34 жыл бұрын
Carl Hicks Jr they’re not post punk.

Post punk? what the? SP were many things but certainly nothing remotely resembling post punk

Corgan at this time was a hell of a live presence. And the song itself is brilliant, evil swagger all through.

love the guitar sound for this song, simple to play but so effective, the octaves sound so badass! i love when billy wrote real heavy songs like this...

Mellon Collie was such a crowning achievement for this band. It covered beautiful, sad, heavy... basically all the emotions. Third album I ever purchased at the ripe old age at 9 years old. Still listen to it regularly lol

its not always about skill. its about feeling, and that magic click. james and d'arcy and jimmy all contributed to the unique sound that billy created. if you watch live videos of him now he looks like a shell with no soul.

The peak of the Pumpkins hating each other (circa ‘96 to ‘98) also coincided with the peak of the Pumpkins as a live band. The simmering rage is vibrating off their instruments.

@Joee1257 i laught at people who diss machina, it had some of the best pumpkins songs, just a shame corgan released an album after that. i'll never be happy until james and darcy are back, yes i know im a tool but i can still hope and it doesn't take much thought to realize all the people who think SP never broke up are just corrupting the dream, smashing pumpkins were the deepest band i've ever heard, they are sadly missed, if i was told i could have sp back or live 5 years longer i'd choose sp

@Joee1257 Hmm. Why is it an insult if Billy is the founding member of the band? If he is the one who is responsible for writing the songs? Have you even listened to their latest releases? Zeitgeist may have been a little weaker when compared to the preceding albums but the Kaleidyscope stuff is really good.

it's just a quick slide over 2 frets with some rather deft ebow skills. jeff (or anyone) could do it, but it's james's "signature" playing that he's not aiming to rip off. james can't really play as dynamically as jeff when it comes down to it. add a little color to your spectrum.

@fleurdupommier the kaleidascope stuff sucks his mixes give the impression that his ears gave finally succumbed as all pro giging musicians ears do at some point, and he was originally a grunger lol so loud music was a must.
