Nothing compares to the cinderella story of Isidro Garcia. He was supposedly just a spectator in a championship fight between then WBO champion Jose "Carita" Lopez against the challenger Alejandro Montiel until he suddenly withdrew from the fight leaving the champion without an oppponent. Isidro Garcia who was eating hotdogs in the audience agreed to step-up and fight for the championship using borrowed equipment. He ended up winning the WBO belt.

I know his manager started the whole hotdog thing but it’s not true. It’s actually impossible to be true given the time he pulled out. Unless the suggestion is on 4 hours he took it THEN went to his seat to watch his own undercard and had a hot dog then went and got prepared haha. It’s amazing enough as is we don’t need a hotdog story to sweeten it haha he likely got inthe story from a slightly similar one nearly a decade prior. This was Tomashek’s ridiculous title bout with Tommy The Duke in the early 90s. I’ve researched that fight for ages and it’s clear doughboy was the back up fighter - super talented journeymen and the slick option when you needed to spar of the big boys on the club scene who wasn’t actually expecting to be put in especially as they got within one hour that’s impossibly rare so like any good country boy he slammed some brewskies and got ready to watch his favorite prize fighter with the boys. Needless to say He was pissed drunk and literally was seen on camera with hotdogs (multiple) literally minutes before the fight when Morrison called him up for his Foreman tuneup he couldn’t avoid haha truly one for the ages. Though unlike chino, tommy could have literally killed his late notice replacement if he wanted. Chino however could flat out crack. Not in any way taking away from him I’m saying he was genuinely very talented and on weight. Tomashek on the other hand… I mean … probably the nicest heavyweight in history atleast that’s for sure I’ll leave it at that 😂

What's sad is that Andy Ruiz came in so heavy in the rematch that he wasn't too effective..An in shape Andy Ruiz is a real problem for ANYONE. Fury would still probably win bc his size and everything but it wouldn't be easy... actually if Fury keeps his style that he used against Wilder it would actually give Ruiz a big advantage.

Ruiz's personality shows there is a HUGE difference between respect and fear. Sometimes men, and people in general confuse the two. Just like there's a difference between maturity and cowardice. This is especially applicable as a warrior is older, and content in his manhood and chooses to live another day to protect and provide for his legacy...it's better to be a warrior in the garden, than be a gardener in a war.

One of the most impressive for me although he didn't win is Qawi stepping in on two weeks notice to fight George Foreman, he wasn't even in heavyweight so had to put on 32lbs in two weeks train to fight Foreman and he does amazingly well for two weeks. You can see his gas tank go and that's what loses him the fight.

Bernard Hopkins' first televised fight was as an unknown late replacement and he dominated. I don't remember the guy he was brought in to fight. I just remember Al Bernstein being really impressed by how polished and disciplined Hopkins was.

There was a fight around the same year as the Ruiz fight here between a short blabby Mexican and a tall and really buff black guy. The Mexican won. He was so much shorter that he could mostly do uppercuts. But he won. Was amazing. If anyone might be able to give me the fighter’s names I’d really appreciate it. My friend was going to save it for me and accidentally deleted it. Thanks !

Klitshko was up for his 3rd title defense and was scheduled to face Donovan "Razor" Ruddock, however, he pulled out due to a hepatitis infection and Chris Byrd (who had been training for a bout with undefeated contender Lawrence Clay-Bey) stepped in at just 10 short DAYS NOTICE to take the fight. Despite ahead on the cards, Vitali injured his shoulder and was in serious pain in the later rounds and in the 10th stoped the fight on his stool. Byrd was awarded a 10th round TKO and became the new WBO world heavyweight champion

José Carita Lopez vs Vargas it is said Vargas was eating a hotdog in the stands when he was called in to fill in last minute and won the 112lb WBO championship 2. Martin Coggi vs some Colombian who came in on short notice to fight a very good champion in his backyard though the Colombian lost he was blindly robbed in one of the most shameless act of home cooking in boxing history
