This would've KILLED my RX-7 if not caught!

TRUST BUT VERIFY: That is what we learned today. With this being my first rotary car I do not know what is normal and abnormal sounding for this engine. Thankfully our Tuner Ryan caught that the car seemed off and well it was. The ignition harness I purchased for the FD was pinned incorrectly causing our ignition timing to be way off.
The thing with using a Haltech is you cannot change the ignition outputs to be whatever you want, in addition, the ignition harnesses documentation did not match the harness either. So we had a combination of improper wiring, incorrect documentation, and incorrect coils going to the wrong plugs.... This could have killed our engine if we did not catch this in time. Thankfully we got it all sorted and fixed before any engine damage could have happened!

Hell yeah! It’s such a great feeling when you diagnose and fix your own car. I just did it with mine a 08 wrx I’m building had a huge over boost issue. Could not find the problem for the life of me then finally one idea came to my mind checked it out and fuck yeah! Fixed it.

@@Smeedia it was stupid. I had to modify my Cobb heat shield for the Tomika 18 g turbo I had put in in my first build. This upgrades build I put a 20g turbo from Tomika in with a bigger waste gate and the arm was jammed on the heat shield. Because the turbo and gate were just a little bigger. Ugh. Now I got to do pistons cause I way over boasted and blew the ring and in cylinder 4. I had good compression in all cylinders except 4 only had 90 psi. But it did hold pressure and no leak down. I was just smoking out of my exhaust something fierce and burning oil. Something so stupid cause me so much more work and a little more money. And while I was tuning I knew not to wot pull yet but I couldn’t resist. The boost never stopped and I have a 4 bar map so I got real high.

My block is an ej257b I put in my wrx for better crank now going forged cause my build is now got enough mods to make great power. Looking to go to 29psi but might just go 25 on 93 and 29-30 psi for e85. Cause I wanna race this bitch before I have to get rid of it.

Good catch. I helped diagnose this same problem for another RX7 owner, think he had a RyWire harness also. I even made a half-ass meme post about it on IG. KZbin doesn't like links, I'll reply to this post separately and see if it works.

KZbin doesn't usually let links through, but I used the 'Yall MF'ers need Jesus' template, renamed to 'Yall MF'ers need a Timing Light'. Check all of the coils, because Coil1 is usually right and the others are usually wrong. Use a paint pen to add marks on the crankshaft damper for coils 2-3-4 if needed.

Mazda TPS sensor are more like a on/off switch, the Ford type will give you a wide range, any aftermarket Ford TPS would have worked from any company, you don't need Air control valve on a rotary engine if tuned correctly, just more things to worry about failing and have to tune
