Agreed. I don’t like it now. I prefer the RSC SMG over it. It makes me play more cautiously, because it’s not a high capacity metal pissing machine. I used to do very well with the 08 post TTK pre apocalypse. I cleared a flag on operations with it and had a nice 14 killstreak going. It was my go to assault weapon but now it’s just.. I was disappointed when I tried it after the patch.

Quintui Disoro I liked it mainly because I prefer slower firing guns with manageable recoil. Even before this buff I was able to easily chain kills and do well in close to medium range.

I agree with both the people above, i always like guns with slower rate of fire, good recoil control, and are able to kill from a short to medium range, that's why i really like the Chauchat from the Support class.

Lol no it was terrible at range the thing that makes the lmgs good is that the longer you fire them the more accurate they get but since this is an smg it didn't have the same damage drop off or accuracy an actual LMG has

Agreed 100%, this killed it's near perfect medium range engagement distance. Something, in my opinion, the assault class needed badly. BUT, DICE shot that to hell and now we have great KZbinrs like this touting it is the "best gun" or is "now amazing". smh

Before the buff the Hellriegel was pretty much the only viable option for a jack of all trades assault gun. Other weapons have either too slow a fire rate to be used as SMGs, or too short a range like the Automatico. BF4 still has a little bit of everything there's never really a gun that EVERYONE uses because its the only one that doesnt suck.

@@callumbennett2013 I became a fan of the ACE 21 Galil in BF4 and it more or less became a go to of mine. Its a good all round, do everything carbine. But the point still stands that BF4 had alot more diversity of guns than BF1 did originally in its meta. Or so it seemed to me at the time.

Agree with SMG08, wouldn't call it 'the best gun' (No gun is really). Its awful post 15m or so. Comment on the Model 10 hunter made me pause the video haha. The best shotgun to date? Ugh, Bad Company 2 pump action cancel slug rounds from across the map on all kits.... or BF4 with its silly 20m OHK 870.

It really isn't high skill, it's better than some bolt action rifles. It two shots up to around 70m, has 6 bullets and is semi-automatic. Before it was high skill, because that two shot range was pretty close up, now you can easily outperform scouts.

I feel like the WW1 Soldiers of BF1 are the type of people that would slurp on some noble scotch / red wine before sotorming the next enemy trench. Guns this easy to use aren’t fun to play with, I like running around flanking with my lil frommer stop auto. It makes you feel more accomplished when you do good and actually helps you get better at the game. SKILL GUNS > noob guns

I'm just glad the gun is finally getting some real use. A lot of people here are saying that they liked the SMG pre nerf, but I honestly never saw people using it, like, ever. This is just my observation however, and isn't backed up by actual hard evidence so, take it as you may, but I never found a real use for the old 08.

There is a difference between what was "used", and what "existed". No military in their right mind would have issued any of the sub-machine guns in this game aside from the MP18i. They'd all suffer reliability issues, and be way too expensive to produce. The "creative liberties" DICE has made often become the meta of the game, so we have players running around with guns that were never used, or are being used improperly. BF1 isn't really a WW1 game as much as it is a WW1 themed Battlefield game.

It feels like the Devs all play Assault and nothing else. Any bonus content? Goes to Assault. Make a class usable in all ranges? Close Quarters (any shotgun) medium range (hellriegel or SMG 08) Longer ranges (M1917 Carbine/any slug shotgun). Wish the medic or support class would see some love too.

It's still by far the easiest class to play. Going 60 - 5 with a Hellriegel is easier than going like 30 - 10 using the Medic class

If you want to medic gun that's going to reward you for skill then I highly recommend the RSC freaking love that gun! Up to three kills with 1 mag. Just. Don't. Miss.

What LevelCap said about the medic weapons requiring skill is why I love that class so much. I dont have the twitch reflexes for Assault and not accurate enough for Scout so mid range engagements as a medic, or dashing in and out of the front lines like a ninja is my favourite way to play

Aiming for center mass has always be a staple when training even police do it, and it should always be staple it in a Military based game tbh. I think it's great that game developers are actually getting smart, and I hope they continue with this. Head-shots are unreliable kills, and games that try to be mil-sim-esk don't reward you for that reason. Not saying BF1 is mil-sim by any means but still its a good trend in my opinion.

I agree that it’s crazy how much of a difference between the 5 round medic rifles and these high rps rifles in the assault class... I feel that if every rifle had its own challenge amounting to that of these rifles in the medic class you’d eventually have a server filled with very experienced soldiers. It would make for an interesting experience!

Might I add a great example. Dice could up the ante of the scout class and make it a bit tougher to ice a body from across the map. I jumped in with a Gewehr 98 with barely any scout experience and was able to knock out 5+ enemies fairly quick. That’s just my take.. I feel like I’ve been playing long enough to have a say.

Personally I hate what they did to this gun, it use to feel so cool when you could take out whole squads with what was a close quarter machine gun. The way it thumped on every shot was awesome. I liked it when this weapon had a slow fire rate but really good accuracy. I would prefer if they lowered the fire rate to maybe 600 and give it much less recoil, or they could have kept the low RPM but increased its damage model by quite a bit.

Its stupidly op and now the one weapon that had the potential to add another meta to the assault class is gone. If they just removed the random bullet deviation at the old fire rate and damage it could have been a really interesting gun. While jackfrags criticises the strategic loadout of the heavy bomber, you barely even describe this as being a major problem and shy away from critiquing dice.

Let's just all agree that SMG 08 is op: it requires no skill to use, it's range is up to 80 meters and in CQB it's death. No chance to counter it. Those who play with it: you gotta admit that it is not skillful

Yup. It should be reverted to its original form. On console, it's a no-skill crutch weapon that 90% of assault players use. In CQB, it overpowers everything and totally destroys the balance of the assault class.
