PSA: You building JUST Mystical Mail in solo is NOT the same thing as combining it with Vanguard and has a super horrible power curve in comparison. There's a reason pros didn't rush Mystical Mail before. I REPEAT: THIS IS NOT ABOUT USING MYSTICAL MAIL, THIS IS ABOUT COMBINING MARK OF THE VANGUARD AND MYSTICAL MAIL! The mind behind this was 99% certainly RivalJackal or DeathWalker himself. I don't know why this is so hard to grasp for some 🐒s. Update: What I expected to happen eventually is already happening in the SPL right now: In the 2nd Obey vs NRG match, maniaKK on Herc (vs Dimi's Osiris) started Mark of the Vanguard instead of Bluestone Pendant and then went into Mystical Mail right after boots. Ronald Ray Gun osiris, ravan, bellona, and erlang I am pretty confident. I'm not a solo main by far but I still find the lane very fun. If I face a really good / experienced solo laner they can usually beat me but I am a teamfight monster and that is really where I excel, not in lane.

Been building this on Chaac since like season 2. Seen it plenty as well from other players. Just because he used it in SPL doesnt mean he revolutionized it, he just shown a spotlight on an already popular build.

Bellona can be a rough matchup, but Herc isn't bad. Vamana still outclears most lane opponents and it's hard to fight into a full wave as a god with bad clear.

It's actually a really weird interaction because, as a warrior, your opponent can't counter build it but, you yourself can't increase its potency because you can't get magical penetration.

Mystical Mail used to be a staple second item for solo laners in Season 2. If you didn't build it, you'd lose lane. It got nerfed when Hi-Rez did the whole HP/Defense split in items, and wasn't really picked up again.

want to point out that with bellona's rise to power along with mystical mail, the best counter should be osiris since he has mitigating dmg in the passive and is one of the few gods who can trade with bellona early without losing wave, hopefully maniakk will pull one nasty osiris vs deathwalker

The only large oversight in this video is how important to the build it is that Mystical Mail deals Magical damage. In solo lane against the "previous" meta, when rushing a physical breastplate item, be it Nemean, Valor, or even Spectral, there is no hp gain during and after that item is built; once Mystical is finished, that magical damage is going to be a massive boon when trading into your opponent who, at best, has t1 pestilence finished at that point. This is one of the key reasons why it's so strong at bullying out your opponent, and if that aura was physical damage, i think everyone would agree that it wouldn't have come to dominate the solo lane meta

Me personally my new solo starter is tier 2 stone of gaia. it gives so much health and its cheap. Your basically unkillable early game. Plus you save money on potions for wards. I have not used a starter item in solo in a very long time

Mystical Mail meta is easier to counter than you might think. Buy magical protection to counter the aura damage (which is magical). If enemy solo is a warrior, the only item for physicals that grants magic pen is Hastened Fatalis (which most warrior solos won't build anyways). Or, if enemy magics buy Void Stone, Spear of the Magus, or have any other protection reduction. Also, Mark of the Vanguard itself counters Mystical Mail. Reducing the tick damage by 5 along with mitigation from magical protection would minimize the impact. Characters with % damage mitigation (Bacchus, Cabrakan, Osiris, etc.) or simply bonus protections (Bellona, Tyr, Fafnir) combined with these other points render Mystical Mail much less viable than expected.

Solo's job is to bully and through bullying, give the enemy less options. If you do the math, mystical mail is great. It's got really high offensive potential and effective health. Everyone should get Forge for Smite and look up the equations for effective damage and health. Once you actually sit down and look at builds, you realise some crazy shit.

Tom Danner How is he busted ? He needs to be played right , and that ain't EZ . His buff was not just a switch of protections from passive to active for ult and some more scaling for 1 (which no one levels much early anyways). Hades , if played right with maximum positioning for minion setups and with his team knowing how to use a Hades for heals , can do ANY role (other than ADC). Hades , being amongst the hardest gods to play from behind , needs that good clear for farm. And his ult is easily avoided by Gods with mobility.

And Item which is completely underused with Chaac is Runeforge Hammer. The passive from this item works really well with Chaac's 3. That 15% more damage combined with the healing from his 3 allows Chaac to outrade any warrior in solo lane.

Some PRO used it, not some guy in ranked. Many things stay under the radar until a pro uses it, because pros establish what works on the highest level and then it becomes meta and trickles down. Using Mystical Mail alone also isn't the same thing. Mystical Mail alone has a horrible power / defense curve until it's completed. Mark of the Vanguard was the workaround that was needed to make it effective enough to compete with current high meta options. Also, noone forces you to follow that meta, ever. But it is what you will primarily see in your games.
