Mast hey mast I’m not new to smite or anything I just checked out a bunch of ur videos and I think they are pretty cool o started in season 4 and I’m lvl 67 so far and I really like the game. I’m decent at the game I would say about 90% of my matches were joust up until last week when I started watching you and started conquest. It’s ok really toxic tho. @@iamjulian2810 I mean, she is definitely easier than the other than switching gods. She is fairly safe with her heals, she has alot of cc, and a dash, now, if we compare that to Sobek, Sobek has one dash, the dash can be VERY risky and even if you do land it on an enemy, you need to know who to go after a sobek, imagine a sobek pulls a cerb into tower with your team mates, but cerb ults, Sobek pretty much fucked his team. Neat list Mast. I took some time off of Smite around when they announced the Arthurian Pantheon, but I have come back and I am still maining Ymir. Now as much as I like your list and your reasonings for each choice you made for it I figured I would write my own list in this comment and see how people liked it, now I do have some that are on your list but others are of my personal preference (hint: I listed one very biased pick in this introductory bit) I might not have the best reasons as to why I chose certain gods over others aside from personal experience, but still let's see what y'all think of them: Assassins: Nemesis (Agreed) Loki (I defer here as Loki can teach a player both timing and placement) Guardian: Geb (let's be honest Geb is a pretty easy Guardian to learn and he has one the highest health pools in the game, very new player friendly) Ymir (also fairly simple to learn, he may be big and slow but he still retains some of the highest magical damage in the game and helps with zoning and, much like Loki, timing) Hunter: Neith (Agreed, hell she's the first god you play in the whole game as she's the tutorial god) Artemis (admittedly, Anhur can be super fun and can be an easy pick up, if you don't intend to play ranked otherwise you are just begging for an uphill battle with your capabilities, Artemis is much easier do to her traps and boar-stun) Mage: Ra (Agreed) Poseidon (has High mobility, can slow his opponents has a line attack that can do a lot of work and his Ult is summoning a Kraken, which if you ignore the fact that the Kraken is Norse and not Greek, is freaking awesome) Warrior: Hercules (Agreed) Guan Yu (Guan Yu is also a good example of a safe Warrior as he works best when he has nearby allies, has very straightforward attacks, and while his Ult does take some time to learn, he is still a very good choice for a beginner Warrior)

Generally, best gods for begginers are the gods with a lot of mobility that can compensate for mistakes they make. Bastet, ratatoskr and such are pretty safe and can get out of the tricky situations. Also, gods with specific and simple skill rotations are also great for begginers. Most of mages have a stun skill + burst skill combo so they are pretty friendly for new players.

Joust GM player here. If anyone here is new to smite and curious about a second opinion. I agree with every single Pick on this list except Scylla. I remeber first starting out with smite and playing her. For me she was one of the harder gods to master since you have to activate her abilitys a second time after landing them wich can feel a bit clunky for beginners. I would recommend playing Zhong Khui instead. High burst damage good cc good sustain and insane teamfight ults. Also his abilities are quite easy to hit so you can focus on positioning rather than aim. Also Mast is totally right about Nemesis! This was a good guide with good top 10 picks for newer players to establish foundations for various game play elements and mechanics. DISCLAIMER: gods with strong burst kits like bastet and da ji are simply strong. They frag and pubstomp. That does not mean they are good gods and beginners do not need bloated egos from going 15-5 bastet/da ji and think they're awesome at smite falsely. it seemed like the intended purpose of this video was a follow-up to smite's beginning guide that came out yesterday. Under the assumption players are trying to learn conquest and the required player skills that go with it, like team awareness and map presence. To that end skill floor/skill ceiling are terms that should matter once you're trying conquest but may not before that. Additionally, mentioning the LEARN tab in-game may have been constructive as well. You used many game terminologies that wouldn't be immediately obvious to newer players and the LEARN tab has a glossary containing all of these terms.
@ajrowe58456 жыл бұрын
I agree specifically with your thoughts on Bastet I am all for giving new players the easiest gods to play so they can focus more on the game around them and not landing abilities. However Bastet is almost just too forgiving to learn anything and once you learn you can dive in without penalty you're stuck playing Bastet forever "I see a lot of girls that play get stuck on Bastet for this reason" No other god is as forgiving with a bad initiate. I actually like his Nem choice for that reason even though I always suggest ranged gods for new players at first. Since Nem still has the ability dash in and out for poke but it isn't nearly as forgiving as Bastet.
@ajrowe58456 жыл бұрын
Might be an uncommon opinion but new players have no business in Conquest in my opinion. Give them some time in arena to learn positioning etc of how close and far they need to be from enemies before trying to get them into a conquest game.

unfortunately, a lot of gods you named would not be ideal for newer players. Especially if they've never played a MOBA before. Sobek would be more of a punish since they will most likely toss minions instead of a God, Rat would push them away from learning to play the game because he's strong when built right and is primarily a jungle and as a new player they wont know either of the two, Ra is a terrible choice even though he is easy because they would end up trying to use his heal as a damage move and neglect their teammates, Wukong would frustrate most newer players since he doesn't seem to output hardly any damage, Anhur would also be more of a hinderance to the team since a new player would likely push the enemy away instead of setting up the pillar for a Stun/slow. I understand where your'e coming from but you have to really think back to when you started playing instead of just going through a list of Gods and thinking "yeah a newb can play that easily" Guardian: Ymir/ Cerberus Hunter: Cupid/ Neith Assassin: Loki/ Bastet Warrior: Odin/ Chaac Mage: Kuku/ Anubis

I found the best geb build that you need to try, it's more a funny build but when I tried it I found it somewhat effective for killing atc and assassins. Build a defensive item at the start and then get an item that will buff your defense with a little offense on the side (ive found the cloak that stuns everyone for a second to work best) then got the rod of tahuti and build other extremely high damage items and just cc the enemy team into oblivion and target the assassins, and if you time things right you can get a lot of kills by flanking and hitting them with the boulder which will make them go flying into your team

Guys, keep in mind that Mast recommends these gods for the best learning potential. There are other gods you can use, definitely, since it all comes down to personal preference and comfort. My go-to guardians when I first started were Ares and Geb. However, don’t get too comfortable since you learn the least while remaining in your comfort zone. Take a risk now and then and fuck the other players who give you shit for making a mistake or two, but listen to those who are giving helpful advice. I like the Rat and Nem for beginners becuase their abilities are easy to understand and they teach how to gank and farm well. I like the sun wu Kong, but I'd swap Hercules for Osiris or Er Lang Shen as both are auto attackers and will clear faster in the early game, teaching pressure better. In addition to that, Hercules can be taught after sun wu Kong while aa warriors need to be learnt from the beginning. I like your mid choices. Both Ra and Scylla are great for beginners as their abilities are easy to understand and they teach the importance of team CC and positioning. I don't like Artio for beginner support. I think Artio in support has too high of a skill floor and doesn't teach how to engage with big ults. Futhermore, her stance switching capabilities means beginners have to spend way more time learning her abilities and how they interact with themselves and opponents rather than how to play support. I'd swap Artio for Athena. Athena has a CC cone ability, all her abilites are pretty easy, and she teaches you how to use the taunt to engage and peel. Sobek is an ok choice as he teaches people the right time to initiate, has a built in way to go in and teaches people how to use big ults effectively. I could also see Get as he teaches you how to initiate with blink while being able to peel with his 2 and 3. Anhur for adc is a great choice as he teaches people how to land abilites and auto attacks and can be played either way. His jump allows him to get away from enemies and the slow from his pillar allows him to box better. I don't like neither because she is to safe and focuses more on hitting your abilities. Her skills revolve around hitting your 1 in lane. I'd pick an AA adc to teach new players the importance of AA and the slow from Auto attacking and how to position yourself to get the auto attacks off. I think the God that fits this is Izanami. Her kit is very easy to understand and she teaches players how to use an attack speed steroid.
@leesykes46406 жыл бұрын
Osiris is arguably one of the hardest warriors in the game to play. He lacks hard CC except his stun which takes 5 full seconds before giving a 1.5sec stun. Also building him seems to be a massive problem for most people. Er lang...he is just hold r2 and they die the god. Super easy to play and way less skill required then Wu Kong in my opinon.
@coldhotshot6 жыл бұрын
@@leesykes4640 This doesn't change the fact that new players should learn melee warriors that normally clear wave faster and therefore teach how to pressure a lane. Osiris may lack in CC but his abilities are super easy to understand and builds should be dependent on match up in the solo lane. How Gods or Goddesses are doing in the meta does not affect beginners as much, what matters more is how easy it is to pick up the God and play him and learn the role. Osiris and Er Lang shen teach people how to play when pressure is on your side, how to play auto attackers and how to play against them.

My list would be the following... And i dont based this off skill shots, as most abilties are jsut that, for instance, I have been playing for quite some time and I still find Ra's ult tough to land sometimes... I just base this list off how easy the god's kit is too understand and thus use effectivly. Perhaps not memorizing the differnt passives and buff and debuffs of each ability, but simply remeber how they are used in a team fight, although knowing the buffs and debuffs of abilties does make you more effective at playing a god, so perhaps my list is somewhat off, but here it goes! Jormungandr is a good guardian god to play. His kit is simple and he’s a fantastic tank using his ult to chase down and slay foes that try to run back to base or makes a good initiate ult to start team fights.
@adamali88116 жыл бұрын
I personally would switch out Anhur for Artemis and Nemesis for Ne Zha because the skill floor is what your most concerned about for beginner. They won't be doing combos to often, but their abilities are relatively easy to hit and do teach players the importance of passives and Crit.
@Husker54546 жыл бұрын
art frustrates new players tho because of her dated kit compared to newer gods or ones that have sprung up in the meta . she is super clunky and very boring .

Great video, Mast. I would like to add that a good beginner mage, in my opinion, is Zhong Kui. He's fairly straightforward and his abilities are very easy to land. Not to mention his innate tankiness and health sustain.

People be sayin how this list is kinda wack but it really just depends on the player. This is i think a suggested list i mean i learnt with gods like Assasin: Nem Guardian: Khepri Warrior: SWK Mage: Poseidon Hunter: Rama Those are what i learned the gane with because i saw that each of them teaches what the role does quite well. Nem with ganks Khepri for saving lives SWK for basically being annoying af in battles poseidon for the burst that mages usually have and rama for basic attacks.
@masterninjahda6 жыл бұрын
Really good video. I agree with others about Artio. If you are comfy with stance switching, yeah....maybe. It just depends on the person playing. But I just think there are easier supports than her for beginners to play.
@juanmanuellozano56186 жыл бұрын
I actually disagree in most of your top, You choose somo gods like Anhur who really arent that easy to play for beginners. For a beginner i would say is better to give them the easiest gods in the mechanical aspect so they can have some fun playing the game, then, when they have already some "love" to the game can start learning about things like position in tf and when to play safe or agressively (thats why i think is better to make guides of each rol than tell them to learn a concept playing x god). Here is my top Assassin - Fenrir/Bastet Hunter - Neith/ Cupid Warrior - Chaac Mage - Ra Guardian - Ymir / Geb
@leesykes46406 жыл бұрын
ymir and geb are actually some of the hardest gaurdians to play. SUPER Low skill floor, skill cap is stupid high. Both can be punished extremely easily, especially ymir. I would say ares, since builiding him auras is both brain dead and highly effectve, his only true skill shot is the 1. I would also suggest xing tian, his passive is super forgiving, and his only real skill shot is his 1 but positioning is arguably his defining factor. Whether you initate with the 3 to get people to target you then 3 out so your team has a easy grouped up target or using the ult to throw them away or towards your team. Chaac, I whole heartedly agree with. I would also keep the Wu Kong suggestion. I think you nailed it on the head with hunters. If some really wants mechanics they will look for the much harder gods when they are ready. Such as Susano, Ullr, Anhur, and Hel (playing her correctly and timing all of her abilities properly make her mechancally difficult). Bastet is a great choice, fenrir I dont agree with as he is a hybrid assassin (he goes tank late game), I would actually suggest probably Kali due to her ult which literally stops her from dying and can be used as the ultimate escape for helping get away also she is fairly easy to build and her suggested build is alright actually. Mages... Ra yes, but scylla no, I think a great one would be posideon. He has great CC, a lot mobility, and has a ult that does a shit load. He is one of the only mages with 4 forms of CC...slow, cripple, knock back, and knock up. The only hard part is paying attention to the tide meter. Also his suggested build is great. Sorry for the essay.
@benza89466 жыл бұрын
Fenrir is definitely not a beginner pick , not feeding with him and managing runes etc very decision heavy , not best for beginners
@juanmanuellozano56186 жыл бұрын
I actually put Fenrir there because he was one of the gods that i played the most in my beginnig. High damage, really easy mechanichs to understand and he can go in and out pretty easily.

Again the point of this is to help new players learn the game, not just give them easy gods to play. Fenrir and Bastet are easy to play but also do very little to help you learn the game and play very different from most other gods.
@AHumblePear6 жыл бұрын
My own recommendations, based on how easy they are to play rather than what they teach you about the game - there's so much to learn in smite a simple kit eases you in. I feel like a lot of Mast's suggestions are great for the next step after beginner. Assassin: Rat Pele Warrior: Chaac Bellona Mage: Kukulkan Zeus Hunter: Neith Rama Guardian: Kumba Geb
@ajrowe58456 жыл бұрын
I agree with your reasoning here that new players need the easiest gods so they can focus more on learning the game and less about mechanics and skills shots. I also think a dash/leap is really important though and can help new players out a lot. Zeus and Kukulkan just get ganked and always being dead and behind in this game isn't fun for newbies :D lol

I'm a beginner in Smite, but I do have a lot of experience with League of Legends so I understand the basics of a moba. I've been having a lot of succes and fun with Discordia and Nox for mages, and Horus for guardian (idk if he's actually meant to be a guardian though). I think Ra is a bit too much of a mage to teach you the basics of the game correctly. To really get good at the game you also need to learn how to use the map to your advantage, mainly by jumping over walls to get away.

Lol to everyone in the comments giving their opinion and BMing Mast for his picks. I agree with his choices 100% because everyone has a different skill level when they come to SMITE. And with SMITE being a totally different animal than most games, I think Mast hit the nail on the head with these starter gods. They all have important things to teach and they're easy to start with for a lot of people. Remember, everyone is different with their skills and the gods picked in this video give an all-around better understanding of the game for new people. I suck at playing warriors and in all my years of playing SMITE, I still cant play them aside from Wu Kong and Chaac but that's because I started with super hard gods and I didnt learn the basics. Unfortunately for me, my friends were cucks and talked me into starting with Hel, an extremely hard stance switching god. Now I can play the best Hel you've ever seen but I'm used to support gods with high mechanic demand. I would never recommend Hel as a beginner god based off of my ability to play her is what I'm getting at here and Mast gave his picks based off what he knows with the game and what's important when it comes to playing the game. He didn't pick his favorite gods, just the ones that make most sense for starters to SMITE.

Assassin I would say Rat and Thanatos. Thanatos is good for teaching positioning while having really great sustain and damage. Mage I would say Chang’e or Hel. Hel is good for learning to manage your abilities and sustain. Or Nox. Nox is food for learning to position and hit tour skill shots. Guardian: Ymir, Enough said. Or Sobek. Warrior: I agree with your picks. Or Odin for one of them. Hunter: Neith. Once again all the reasons you said. Then Artemis. She has a really safe ult, food ability range, can trap flanking roots and the empowered attack speed.

i would also recommend YIMIR AND ATHENA for SUPP and THOR for jungle ... coz with his ult you can have "semi global" precense and you gotta watch your map for suprise ults

I started with Cupid for three reasons. 1 - I built for movement speed to run away. 2 - I wanted arrows to stand behind a stronger player. 3 - The health of eating the hearts. I focus on killing minions, not Gods. I run from the Gods. My girlfriend laughed ( I'm a guy ), but I help the team by taking down minions and towers and running away. My win rate is about 50/50 - and I've played less then 200 games with him.
