I could be wrong, but I believe this is the only stainless/synthetic lever gun that comes threaded from the factory - at the moment. Kinda cool. I wish Henry would thread their stainless/synthetic model lever guns in .357 mag/.38 special.

I am hoping to see the 3 other "biggies;" 30-30, .357 and .45-70. I feel like I am starting at a huge point of ignorance here. I was really disappointed to open up a Henry and see so many cast parts and how sloppy they were. That really turned me off. I have also been watching some SASS competitions in my area and learned that certain series did not handle rounds very well and required opening them up to clear jams and misfeeds. I have no idea which series are susceptible to that and which are not. I always enjoy watching your videos and feel I learn a great deal from them. Thank you for all the work you do here.

I had read somewhere years ago that smith and another gun company (may have been Winchester ) that had a law suit against them and they came to an agreement that smith would only make pistols and the other rifles.

Lever action pistol huh? Good history lesson & cool pics ! My dad passed last year and I got his Winchester Ranger 30-30. It's in my safe. I carry a 3" 357 mag revolver now, so I bought my first lever action, a Henry All Weather in the same caliber. I have the same rifle in 30-30 on layaway that I'm excited to bring home and shoot. Hopefully some day I can come take one of your lever action classes. 🇺🇸

love that! Im familiar with a 45 long colt my Dad had. So much fun to shoot. the fancy rails you have there at the end are just sick! I guess the big loop would come in handy if you had to wear gloves in the winter time I don't know if that would be a rifle one would carry on a horse at or around the ranch. Hello, Chris! It's Steve the retired Jersey Trooper here! I'm still alive and shooting! I'll be 72 in October and hope to get to another of your classes (my fourth or fifth) before they plant me! Smith & Wesson just came out with a .45 Colt version of this rifle, and it's going to be my next purchase since it will be a great companion to my 1930 (former NY State Police) Colt New Service revolver in .45 Colt. I hope you are doing well! Take care!

Actually there was one other gun that essentially used "classless" ammunition. The Sharps breach loader used paper cartridges that burned up in the chamber before self contained Metallic cartridges were invented. So in essence it was one of the first gun to do so. Although I believe the Volcanic came before it. The Volcanic Arms Co. was going out of business, but was bought by Winchester if memory serves. (Trust me it doesn't always serve me very well) I'm trying to remember how Henry fits into the story. Anyway, Smith & Wesson gets their big break by making "pocket" pistols and by buying the patent for the bored through cylinder. Unfortunately they failed to secure any Government contracts until they get the Army to buy some of their No3 top break revolvers and The Schofield version of the No. 3. Which in a round about way leads to the 45 ACP.

The tubular magazine versus a box style magaziine (think Ruger 44 Deerfield) design of this new Smith & Wesson 1854 really limits the versatility of this otherwise great gun. Yes, Federal produces a 44 mag, 270 gr, "HammerDown" cart ridge and Hornady FTX (as I recall), but any tube magazine fed gun suffers ballistically by requiring flat faced, versus spitzer (pointy) bullet styles to prevent detonation due to recoil in a tube magazine. More so, spitzer style bullets provide better BC, higher velocity, greater range, etc, and a dramatically better chance of a quick, humane kill versus flat faced bullet styles. BTW, the 1854 is selling locally here in Maine for $1170 right now and the 1854 Premium, with the fancy walnut stocks, for $3700. Best regards to all.

They need to produce a 460 S&W mag and possibly a 500 S&W mag on a receiver sized just for them, so it would be between the 44 mag they are producing and the 45-70 guns the competitors are producing.

I have one. It's a well made gun, but the single M-lok slots are hot garbage. Most m-lok accessories need 2 slots. So far, that is my only complaint. Anyone know of a light that will mount on this gun? Not "should", but one that you have actually seen mounted?
