Beterbiev is so good. Find is astonishing that certain pundits in the British boxing media were trying to say that Beterbiev was past his best and was on the slide when he fought Yarde. Utterly ridiculous, that they were giving Snith a genuine chance of winning this fight. Based on what? If anything Beterbiev looked phenomenal last night. Smith was brave but was out of his depth.
@imonahorse
@imonahorse Жыл бұрын
Totally agree. There was never any danger Callum would win and the optimism of the British press was utterly bizarre. I said it before the fight, Yarde would handle Smith, so this was never a contest.

It was based on Artur's recent surgery and bad tooth infection, basically being 39 and Smith having a serious left hook. None of it mattered in the end, but there were definitely some grounds for an upset beforehand.

Counter jab from Beterbiev vs the taller longer armed man was really impressive in this fight. The way he controlled the range and stayed so composed showed he's more than just a puncher. He is a great thinker like Usyk. Best I've seen Beterbiev box For Hearn and Bellew to insinuate he is on drugs after he's never failed a test, is very disappointing. Sore losers.

Easy to say in hindsight Smith shouldn't have taken the Beterbiev fight after the inactivity but Artur was inactive too, close to 39 and just had surgery. For all people knew this was the best time to fight him at perhaps his most vulnerable. Turned out he was better than ever.

The bottom line is, that Beterviev is a different animal. Some people are naturally, biologically, just physically stronger, than your average human being, and no amount of training, or weight lifting, by their opponent can change that. That is why they can carry that strength and power into the later rounds, when other gas. It's genetics.

On Smith, if you see the Canelo fight you'll notice something that Beterbiev obviously picked up on: he doesn't like sustained inside pressure. Yes, he can fight on the inside but there's a world of difference between (A) capable of fighting on the inside and (B) being an inside fighter. Beterbiev is an inside fighter. He's got short arms - shorter than Crawford's in fact - which means the only way he can win when fighting guys with a five or six inch reach advantage over him is by closing the distance, cutting off the ring, and bashing men up. He's absolutely superb at it - world-class in every sense - and would give any light heavy of any generation a run for his money.

Absolutely agree with the Golovkin analogy. That super-intimidating monster who walks you down and doesn’t seem affected by taking one or two at the same time. For a long time, I've had Beterbiev over Bivol. The win over Canelo was a surprise (mainly because of how we'd all been conditioned to see Canelo), but I don't think it merited rocketing Bivol up into the higher rungs of the P4P rankings. Canelo was already past his best, I thought, and it's one thing to dominate Fielding and do well against Kovalev; Bivol and Beterbiev are at their own exclusive level above all other 175-pounders. It was a bridge too far for Canelo, yet that's Bivol's primary claim to fame. Like George said, it's been several years (9 fights, I believe) since Bivol's stopped anyone. Meanwhile, Beterbiev's fought the better overall quality at 175 and knocked them all out. But that Canelo fight purchased Bivol a LOT of disproportionate (and I would say exaggerated or distorted) favoritism from commentators and fans. Bivol's an excellent classical boxer, but it's not like he's Pernell Whitaker: I don't see him holding Beterbiev off for 12 rounds.

Tbh the way it started I didn't think smith was gonna last very long but he grinded it out and rode some tough moments but the writing was on the wall from about the 3rd round because beterbiev isn't an explosive one punch KO kinda fighter he has that thudding power especially with that Jab. He basically just batters you and guys eventually just can't live with it because it's relentless and even if he's not landing clean on you the punches to the arms and shoulders etc it still hurts and is tiring for whoever he's facing.

There was always those fighters mentioned- Yarde, Buatsi, Arthur, Azeez etc. It now looks better for Yarde as he actually got through to Beterbiev and gave him a hard night's work. Beterbievs footwork ,timing and power even at 38 are unstoppable, bivol is the only fight left and even then Beterbiev has to be favourite 🥊there are levels and Smith was outclassed, All smith wanted to do was stay on the ropes, nobody beats berterbiev, a complete one sided beat down, thats probably the end of callum smith

I seen Smith run around the ring afraid of baby canelo for 12 rounds. I KNEW he had no chance and was getting stopped with beterbiev. ALl the talk about smith's "power" and how he had this great chance I KNEW was all to hype the fight. It was the best name that Beterbiev could get at the time, so it wasnt on him for opponent selection but smith had no chance.

He still did very well, he puts his hands together very well, very good combinations to the body and head with Very effective uppercuts, the difference in the fight was one thing and one thing only.. the power other than that Smith fought very well for someone that was off for 18 months

The right option for Smith if continues is to move to cruiserweight. Think he could win a title at cruiserweight but do question how much he likes boxing. Fun fight would be Smith v Bellew at cruiserweight or heavyweight. Think that is one that could sell if promoted right

Callum didn’t have the sting on his shots to peal Beterbiev off him. Beterbiev has that stiff power like an old man Forman, very good accuracy and timing but a very one note defensive game, I think Bivol beats him through volume punching, shot selection and the ability to sit down on shots when he wants to.

Never in doubt, I got loads of stick from Brits going against Callum, but it is what it is. BIVOL will have to be punch and footwork PERFECT for 36 minutes against that ANIMAL. Bivol is a great boxer but doesn't have KO power; I can't see past Beterbiev, TBH and we all luv a unification fight.
