I have one. Love it. My dad gave it to me from his collection, saying simply "the trigger is Smith and Wesson perfection."

That is beautiful Dustin! I would have to say that regardless of gifting the revolver to you your grandfather was a special man. You will always remember him every time you fire, clean or just admire that piece of art. So happy for you. See you in the next one.

I have a model 617 -- the modern version with a 10-shot cylinder. It's a great training tool for my K-frame .357 magnum S&Ws.

This was called the K22 masterpiece it was one in a series of K frame revolvers called 'masterpiece' these were top of the line target revolvers for competition there was the K22 the K32 and the K38. All were the same size and finished the same which is to say... the best Smith and Wesson could do. Smith claims that the K22 would do a one inch group at 50 yards. The gun I have looks exactly like yours but it is a 'pre masterpiece' and was called the 'outdoorsman' Mine was made in 1936 at the height of the depression... it probly cost 3 weeks salary back then. You can still buy the guns new from SW and even in a ten shot. I take mine out a lot and I am not really a 22 guy but I take it for newbies who love the gun! and when I get the flnches from my 44 mag guns I shoot a few cylinders out of it to calm down. the polish and blue on the old guns rivaled the Colt Python. Keep it wiped down with a good CLP or eds red.

I recently came into a very different gun. it is a model 19 with 6 inch barrel in .357 magnum. it looks exactly like the K series masterpieces and except for the slightly longer cyl would be mistaken for a K38 masterpiece. The finish on the gun is very rough with surface rust and some pitting. which I carefully removed (the rust not pits) and cold blued for protection. internally the gun was really gummed up with dried out grease (probly factory) the gun is from the 60's. Very little mechanical wear. a real gem IMO.... it is a tack driver. 1.5" groups at 25yards from a rest. if you miss a 12 oz soda at 30 yards with this gun? you are having a really bad day lol

Nice revolver. My first Smith and Wesson 22, was a Model 17-3 and it was a great shooter. Treasure yours always. It's the only one your grandfather left you.

I didn't inherit mine but bought in a private sale at a gun show many years ago for $185. It was a bargain even back then.

Is that a target wide trigger? If so, all you’d need is proper target grips and you’d have a Three Ts gun.

Hi Dustin, a quick Gun Broker search shows that model to have substantial value. Personally I would clean it wrap it in a gun safe cloth and keep it as a safe queen.
@GunsOfTheWest4 ай бұрын
I looked it up a while back and I was amazed! I’ll still shoot it though.
@doranmaxwell17554 ай бұрын
shame! These are not safe queens! mine was made in 1936 and I shoot it all the time. 22's cause little to no wear. Not shooting such a great gun seems ..... criminal...

Are you sure the gun is not a .22 long colt shooting pistol?

I just googled it. $999 is the average for used ones. Unfired will probably set you back $1500.
