That is indeed a beautiful finish. As a hand loader, and the older I get, and the more painful it is to pick up brass, the more the .357 becomes my favorite caliber. My favorite "baby" is a 5" model 27-2 I added a set of "Coke Bottle" target stocks that I picked up at a gun show years ago, along with an old Smith & Wesson wood box, and I enjoy looking at her almost as much as time at the range. My pet load of 5.5 gr. Unique over a Lee mold cast 158 gr. LSWC sized to .358 is very accurate in my revolvers, and rifles. Hits harder than .38 special, yet mild enough to get many loads per case. I hope to one day save up for a Henry lever action when they add the loading gate to the .357. Right now have an IMI Timberwolf, and a Ruger 77/.357 rifle. Incidentally, thanks for your endshake video. I put one .002 shim in my model 27-2, and is now perfect!

@ 357 won't shoot through a engine block. That's a myth. Even 44 won't. Even 50 AE won't. It definitely will go deep but unless it's a little 2 cylinder or straight six it won't happen. Most large rifle rounds like 45-70 or 450bm won't even go through.

@ Lmao. Take a class instead of getting trained by Hollywood. 9mm doesn't bounce off windshields, whether shot from inside or out. It does however, change the trajectory of the bullet, just like it does with .357 If you're looking to have soething pretty get a revolver or 1911. If you're looking for the ideal sidearm, go with a "plastic" one. I shoot and love them all

I have an origional 586 no dash, 6" nickle plated S&W I picked up at a shop for 400.00, it is a sweet shooting gun, love the classic line that S&W is putting out, bringing back the guns that made them great.
@stevenhall9762 Жыл бұрын
When I was a USAF Security Policeman (66-70) we carried the Smith & Wesson Combat Masterpiece. I liked the weapon itself, but did not like the small (short) handgrip. I do not have large hands but when the small, stock walnut grip got wet (which it did often in the monsoon rains) it was slippery and difficult to keep in my hand. Years later, when I decided to buy a handgun I looked at the automatic pistols, but just wasn't comfortable with them. The simplicity of the revolver appealed to me even though it held only six rounds. I decided to stay with a revolver and chose the brand that I was familiar with, S&W. I purchased the 586 and even though I really love the beauty of the walnut grips, I switched them out right away for the Hogue rubber grips. They are not as thick as the walnut grips so my hands wrap around the Hogue grips much better resulting in more control, especially when firing double action with 357 magnum rounds.

I agree that 357 Magnum is phenomenal as a self defense round and a 4” 586 is a great carry gun (with mods, including different stocks) in a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2. As 38 Special was the “adequate” light load of its day, so too is 9x19mm today. These light rounds certainly work, but 357 Magnum shines in comparison.

I have to disagree with you on a couple of points. I've always been a 357 man, to the point I got rid of all my 9mm's. I edc a 357 daily. I fluctuate between a 3" and a 4". All you have to do is buy an outside shirt 1 size larger. This IS a concealed carry weapon. As far as the "hilary hole," I always disable them. I take them out completely. And before you or anyone else says it, I know it "voids" the warranty. If I did need to send it to S&W for service, I know they will replace it. When I get it back, I would take it out again. No big deal. It's a shame Smith caved to political pressure. I'm soo glad Colt did not.

Great looking gun man love the bleu finish. I’ve got the 686 without the (....) hole ; ) Heard that Colt Will bring out the Python again next year.. that’s gonna be my next one!!

Though I'm not big on new Smiths, I've been checking out a couple models and this is one of them. I prefer the 4 inch barrel as well. I'd love to put the old style magna grips on it too. I love the old wood panel grips so much. That model would look nice with those. The other models I've been looking at are the classic 29 4 inch and the snub 69. I've also thought about a 686+ snub buttye 29, 586 and 686 I'd prefer to get older ones without the lock and with the hammer mounted firing pin though they are harder to find and expensive. I really like that they brought back the square butt for the classic 586 and 29. I don't like round butt on 4 inch or longer revolvers. The 686 snub, I'd much prefer an older one as well, but the new ones aren't bad. If they made a 586+ snubby, with a nice blued finish like your's, I'd have to buy it even with a lock and frame mounted firing pin. I don't know why the hell they don't make that. Nice gun.

Great video!!! Love the finish on this .357, but will be going with a Ruger because of the Hillary hole.

Wow, talk about nice a looking revolver. Wow! I was under the impression that S&W was only making the plain sandblasted blued revolvers. That one is a jewel.

They're bead blasted, not sandblasted.

Everybody says the same thing recoil recoil recoil it’s just about right it’s just about perfect. It’s not over bearing sure. 44 is nice. Nothing wrong with the 44 but if you’re going to do it all day 357.

Looks like a model 19. What is the diff?
@Mike-up6go3 жыл бұрын
Several differences. Model 19 is a " K " frame. Model 586 is a " L " frame. L frame revolvers are some what beefier and heavier then the K frame. L frame has full underlug. K frame doesnt. The K frame 19 ( and its stainless version the 66 ) have a slightly thinner forcing cone that by design is squared off on the bottom , contributing to forcing cone erosion and possible cracking with a steady diet of hot .357 magnum loads. In fact the L frame came about to correct those K frame deficiencies. L frame revolvers will take a steady diet of . 357 without issues. If all you want is to shoot .38 special or an occasional . 357 a K frame should be fine. That heavier L frame will also dampen the . 357 recoil a tad better , having a bit more weight out front toward the muzzle end.

Dave, I have a question for you, I came across a original 4" 586 (manufactured 1987) in excellent condition for $1295.00 So my question is, is this a good price for a classic S&W? Also I was told that they put about 500 rounds though it. Thank you for what ever advice you can give me.
@call99P3 жыл бұрын
For that price You could buy a new 586 L-comp Performance Center, so in my opinion that's not cheap at all.
@boricuaarecibo9259 Жыл бұрын
I would get a brand new 586-8 classic and save yourself a few hundred dollars. You will absolutely love it and it will have the lifetime warranty which is not transferable
