Shark Ion Robot Vacuum 725/750/850 Grinding Noise Explained

If you have a shark ion series robot vacuum you might have a bad grinding sound coming from the robot mainly when its used on carpet or after something has gotten stuck in it. Here is the issue and the solutions that come with it.

I have about 3 or 4, 725N that I could sell you if you want them. One of them, the CLEAN and MAX is blinking together. The others run sorta loud and barely pick up. Probably could be a quick fix for you.

Dirty roller brushes will bog down causing the motor to draw more amps and heat up. I’ve pulled so much wife and daughter hair off the bearing end of the brush that I can make myself a side family.

My ion rv750 runs then stops after a few seconds. The question mark and the clean button light up. I press clean and it runs for a short distance and then stops. The app tells me there is a clog, but everything is clean. Any ideas what part may be bad and do you have it for sale?

They really can have a lot of issues but some of them are like tanks. We have had two that we use for testing and never had a issue with them even running in the dirt.

I have an 850 that I used on a hardwood/kitchen tile floor. Worked really well for a few months (bought it two years ago but my wife never got it going because of the need to get stuff out of its way, so I did on my own phone a few months ago). But it ran over a cord and now it makes a grinding sound. (Wasn't even all that bad; it barely got wound in before it got stuck and the roller stopped, but that's all it took.) Guess I need a new belt! Thanks for the advice, Smitty!

Are you gonna want to take the brush roller out and check to see if there’s a melted spot if so the motor overheated and melted causing at the slip so you will need a new housing if that’s the case or a new belt of burnt up

I totally agree shark ion is one of the best. i have 6 of them. I got a RV700_N 14.4v needs the brush motor but now it just has a beep and no lights no acknowledgment that it's on base. will just beep every 5-7 seconds. this has got me scratching my head. any ideas? thank you

People can still scam you and they will win. My good friend sold a skill crane part on eBay. The person filed for a return and even after the guy sent a different part with a completely different serial number, my buddy still had to refund that person. And yes, the part that was sent back from the buyer, was broken. So the buyer just purchased a working part from my friend, they returned the broken part he was replacing

@@SmittysWorld that situation with the claw machine part just happened about 2 months ago. I actually just won against someone trying to return a Dri-Fit shirt. I don’t accept returns on my eBay, however, if someone messages me respectfully, I will usually accept a return. This guy called me a liar because the shirt was a 3xl but it is a dri-fit, so they usually fit more snug. I wear a 3xl and it fit me, but snug. I’m the description, it clearly stated that the shirt is labeled a 3xl but fits snug. He tried to tell me it was more like an xl. I wouldn’t have even been able to get it off if it was an xl. So I denied the return. He then went through the process of fighting the transaction through the financial institution he used to pay. I submitted screenshots of the listing, the description, and anything else I had. After about 40 days, it was determined that I won the issue. Just a small victory for sellers. Like I said, my eBay states that I do not accept returns, but I will usually allow returns when someone is respectful to me

It was actually the wheels and the brush... I guess in about 6 months time they either wear out or get jammed with hair etc and it causes the noise and/or one or more wheels to malfunction and spin in circles it especially wreaks havoc on the gear portion.... So I never sent the last one back in...I just replaced it with the new ion version and holy cow... Night and day as far performance(rarely misses a spot). No more random pattern (hated that... Honestly who was that for, a room full of cats??). This one is methodical... Cleans like I cut the grass but better. I also removed the long fur carpets from the equation... They started the whole problem with it's three predecessors. I just roll them up... Allow it to do is thing.... then unroll them later. Problem has not returned as of yet.

Hi Smitty, I have a shark ion 750 robot that I let clean the dust under my bed. Some string got caught in one wheel and I got out as much as I could but the robot turns in circles. The wheels are under the bottom plastic cover. I got the Torx size ten screws out of the bottom but need to take off the side bumper which has an even smaller size torx screw that I can’t find a driver for. where can I find a torx bit to remove that small screw. The 750 does not have a Max button.Also, the wheels are not that easy to come off. The entire cover has to come off in the 750

Hey Smitty...I have taken apart, cleaned, and re-assembled my Shark RV750 and now I keep getting the "cliff sensor" error lights. There is no factory reset option in the Shark App, I did the recommended reset, cleaned all the sensors, taken it apart, reassembled, etc. now 3 times. It is only 16 months old and in good shape. Help! Any ideas?

@@SmittysWorld No, it was making the grinding noise. Did a total cleaning, checked motors, etc. and the it ran for about 5 seconds with no more grinding sound. Then the error lights came on...cleaned sensors, did all that, etc.

I took my Shark RV1001AE apart to clean off my Ninja dog surprise and didn't take pictures on what wire goes where. Is there any guidance you can provide?

Pete Coulter as far as where the wires go most the wires can only plug into on space on the board they have different pins. Left wires on left side of board right on the right side. Running the wires is just a matter of keeping them free of pinch points when putting top back on. Smittysworld2015 at gmail is my email you can send a picture and I can help

Toni Garrett unfortunately that video makes it a little hard for me to tell because it’s so loud and I’m not right at it , remove the main brush from the bottom run it if it’s still making the sound which I’m thinking it will be then one of the wheel motors has a bad gear in it. You can sometimes tell but turning it over and spinning the wheels by hand back and forth

I have the RV750 and my main roller brush isn’t rolling. The main motor seems to be fine and spinning as it should. To me it looks like the main brush that fit onto the main drive peg is rounded off. So the drive peg is literally spinning inside the main brush. Have you ever heard of this issue???

Austin Serv depends on what setting min 45 minutes but closer to a hour. If it’s under 45 minutes battery is not holding full charge.

Here's one for ya. I started having main brush roller issues after owning this robot for about 1yr and 3 months. In the end, by hooking a multimeter to the contacts on the main brush roller motor and watching the robot clean, it would receive a consistant 9V when it was working. However when the robot goes over a section of very low pile carpet (like a door mat), the voltages would fluctuate wildly then eventually go to 0 and roller would stop altogether. I've already replaced the main roller motor and that didn't work. Since the supplied voltage to the motor drops to 0V, i'm guessing it's the main motherboard? There's really no forums or anywhere to discuss problems like this so i'm posting it here. Considering parting the robot out altogether since I called Shark and all they could offer was a discount on a new one lmao. Help anyone?

@@SmittysWorld It's the shark ion 750. The model number is RV750. It's the only other thing I think could be the problem. The motherboard handles all of the voltage distribution to each of the robots parts so if the voltages going to the brush motor drop, it has to be the board?

Shauna Roberson here is a link to my shop please make sure this is the correct bin before ordering . They made a few different models of the 750 if you have a clear one this will work as well the clear and smoke grey are same size and fit. Currently out of clear I believe.

Chris Crickenberger it depends is it just dying? Or is it giving a error? Does it go home? Could be something simple like battery doesn’t hold much charge anymore to something more complicated as a sensor or motherboard issue. If it’s not dying take a look at the roller brush take it out make sure free of debris, check wheels make sure they are moving correctly. Clean sensors off. Make sure the bin is well secured .

It is the quietest when it is returning to the dock.

When returning to the dock the roller slows down and the vacuum motor slows down . Could be dirt inside the vacuum pump itself. Taking everything off getting a air compressor and blowing everything out could help . Also could still be the roller but I’m guessing more of the vacuum pump itself in some way hard to know unless I heard it myself

Scott Smith could be a few different things lost the time motor failure or debris getting sucked up .
