SML - The Lance Problem

For those who have been mentioning it, yes, I have watched a few of Lance's vlogs. Part of the deal is I can tell that Lance makes a good portion of the jokes for his characters. Logan does laugh at quite a few of them. But it's clear that Lance is the one who makes the majority of the repetitive jokes for his characters. This is kinda on Logan to stop him from doing this, but whether because Logan thinks they're funny, or because he doesn't want to say anything, the dumb jokes continue. Maybe Chris should direct and give ideas for videos. He's actually funny and can usually play with whatever he's given. (And yes, I know Lance has suggested Woody videos to Logan. Logan says those don't get views, which kinda sucks. Again, Lance's problem is mainly how he uses his characters. Trust me, give Woody a few videos close together where it's pretty much only him that Lance is playing, and Lance will run those jokes into the ground too.) The Lance rule: The more characters Lance plays in a given video, and the greater the frequency of multiple character appearances and scenes, the less likely it will be for a joke to be run into the ground.

I mean, is Lance really the problem or just Logan picking the easiest of concepts to do while Pablo is away. Think about it, videos like Jeffy's Future, Jeffy's Scooter, and Mario Sells Jeffy slacked mainly because the idea was basic as hell. I mean, dragging out a video with only eight scenes and making the conflict being "Jeffy is scared he will die" isn't that much of an idea. Neither is having Mario sell Jeffy and then resolve the conflict in minutes. The lack of Pablo hasn't really had an effect in video quality since even during the beginning of the situation, Logan was coming out with some great videos in between. Surely, the videos that have slacked were the ones that focused on Jeffy, but I don't think he's the problem, but much more Logan not trying to do more complex ideas that don't need Pablo.

I think the problem with modern SML is just Talking There are very few videos that take place outside of the house, plus most of the camera angles are just Couch space, Character, couch space, character couch space Or Wall, Character, Door, Character. It all seems like a 2 dimensional plane. Old videos used to go all over the place and have a variety of locations, even if it’s just in the house. Old SML had to be creative And now it’s just ... formulaic, and not in a good way.

I've always loved Chris' characters, and he's always been my favorite voice actor. There's a certain charm about him that he just lights up the room when he walks in. It's like, refreshing in a way. It's sad that when jeffy was hugely popular, everyone completely forgot about the guy who made the non jeffy videos actually funny. Honestly, this video is a big deep over-representation of the situation. I mean, Lance's characters that are interpreted as jokes are really just character traits that have specific jokes in them. An example being that Goodman being rich is a trait of his, and they built up singular jokes with it. Also, remember when Jeffy was a total brat that cussed back in 2017-2019? Well, that was a trait of his that had single jokes in that specific trait. Lance isn't really the problem now as in reality all he's done is get new characters to voice while the videos just keep to Jeffy being the main character of certain videos. Honestly, I've theorized that the reason why the last couple of SML videos were a "detriment in quality by some" is because Logan is probably just knocking out the simplest of ideas he could think of (i.e. Jeffy's Scary Movie, Bowser Junior's Prank Gone Wrong). The absence of Pablo has nothing to do with this as even some of the videos without him have actually been great. You know the video before that's considered great before The Baseball Game? The Big Heist video, which didn't have Pablo at all. Pablo has been gone since Early-April, yet Logan peaked a couple of weeks after that and during May, which was when Pablo was still gone. Logan was doing complex ideas during that time, and ever since The Baseball Game, he's done the most basic of execution with the Jeffy videos while still retaining some form of quality with the Junior videos. If by means Pablo is affecting the quality, then it's in terms of Logan using the most simple of concepts in videos so he can save the more complex ones when Pablo comes back. But I don't know honestly.

Judging by the BTS videos you can really see how the main 5 actors for SML (that being Logan, Lance, Lovell, Chris and Elaina) work off of each other. Logan has a massive ego and is constantly getting so hyped up when making the videos he ends up just accepting whatever ideas are thrown in without thinking about how humorous it actually is, Lance comes up with all the bad ideas and because he’s basically co-directing and has a lot of the power he can make whatever jokes he wants, Lovell just sits around and waits for when he’s needed and when he is needed he gives it his all, Chris accepts whatever crappy joke he’s given and figures out a way to make it work and Elaina just seems to happily go along with everything and wants to help in any way she can which is why she designed the human puppets

I agree, Chris is (in my opinion) the best actor of SML, but I do believe everyone else in the cast and Lance do have good talent and play good roles, it’s just they’re not getting put to good use. On a real note, I do hope Chris does eventually return and I do hope but with a chance of a doubt, that Lance will see this and hopefully does change his jokes, I hope. But we can only wait and see.

I’m just putting this out there, this mainly Logan’s fault. It’s Logan’s channel. Logan just wants the money. Bringing back the old characters aren’t necessarily the best either, all of woody’s jokes are about shrimp and shrek’s personality is just pooping in the toilet and cheese cake. To me Lance’s characters are the most annoying. Really the funniest character is Jeffy, mainly because Jeffy is able to pop off the occasional actually funny joke instead of saying “PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP” or “I dont have tew” or even breaking stuff. Logan isn’t obviously going to bring back the the old characters. Its going to stay as Jeffy since he makes the most money. The classic era is long gone.

I don't really care about running the jokes into the ground, because I still find it funny. I guess I just have a more similar sense of humor to Lance. Also everyone's talking about who's the best actor, but I don't think there's really a specific 'best actor' in the SML crew. Lance is the best at voice range, being able to make voices you might not recognize as Lance. Lovell is the best at acting out emotions, like making a specific emotion of a character believable. He puts so much effort into it that he makes different facial expressions depending on what emotion he is depicting! You can see it in the behind the scenes videos. Chris/Pablo is the best for long scenes or one take scenes. He virtually never messes up a line, and when he does, Logan said in a vlog that he either gets annoyed at Chris or is in disbelief. (probably as a joke though) Objectively, there is no 'best' crew member in SML. They all have their own ups and downs and the one thing they are the best at.

I know this is kind of unrelated and old but can we talk about how much of a clickbaiter Lance is? He takes the smallest event in vlogs and makes it into an extremely exaggerated and clickbaited title. For example there will be a small part where Pumpkin is placed on the couch and the Lance makes the title of the vlog: “WE THREW IN PUMPKIN FOR A SCENE!!! 😱😱😱🎃🎃🎃” I don’t hate Lance, he’s cool and I like the vlogs but the clickbait is annoying.
