@1:40... how about vectoring them back towards the airport instead of asking a bunch of questions

The great fuel in pounds vs. fuel in time debate continues.

Noob comment here, but 3.5 seems kinda light for travel the SLC from JFK. Is that normal?

@@FerrisSOCALfuel remaining was likely given at current (lower) altitude of 10,000 instead of higher more fuel efficient cruise altitude

No debate - ATC need to know how long they can keep flying, ARFF need to know how big the fire is going to be.
@AveryFliesАй бұрын
I would just give both. ATC needs to know how long the plane can fly, fire dept needs to know how long the plane can burn. 😅

Best handled emergency I've heard. No repeating or asking same questions on every hand-off. No nonsense professionalism by all involved

Really? You like that they had a plane use their runway and potentially cause a go around for a plane with smoke in the cockpit? I sure don't.

Feel like it took too long to get the initial vector back to the field

Now compare this mess to the last Amsterdam video. Pounds, hours, souls,…

How about not making them climb when masks are donned with fumes..unless traffic conflict or pilots request..., then explain....
@SpaceGeek321Ай бұрын
They were already at 8800, stopping the climb at 10 is logical, and the pilots didn't object.
@zachansen8293Ай бұрын
and what about having a plane on their runway potentially reject takeoff and make them go around with smoke in the cockpit??? wtf
@JSVintageАй бұрын
Curious how they only had 3.5 hours of fuel remaining for a 4 hour flight? Is that because they give the time remaining at the present (lower) altitude?
@thomasfeighery5356Ай бұрын
Yes
@zachansen8293Ай бұрын
When they say fire you don't have another plane try to take off ahead of them. You clear the runway. Holy shit what were they thinking at ATC? You're going to have a plane with smoke potentially do a go around??? I don't think so.
@EdOeunaАй бұрын
In,essentially you can specifically identify what was on fire, like something in an oven or the lavatory waste bin, then any fire cannot be confirmed as being out, and landing is your immediate priority. As it is a mayday / “emergency” situation then ATC become assistance to your return and not obstacles.
@THESTIG-cc7fqАй бұрын
Souls on board and fuel remaining if pilots are in an emergency and pressure environment. What if they are unable to provide figures, does that mean they cant land until they tell them.
@briansmyla8696Ай бұрын
No, the pilots can just say 'unable', and all will be well.
@df446Ай бұрын
"Fumes". How did they know it was the byproducts of burning metal they were smelling?
@zachansen8293Ай бұрын
It doesn't matter. Fire is the worst thing for a plane. You get on the ground and you do it now if you even suspect it might be a fire.
