Not throwing shade at schools like NAA and ERAU, I actually got my engineering from ERAU after my FAA/FCC. It seems like the big money schools are set up for the person with no natural born mechanical ability. It blew my mind when my first NAA graduated trainee asked “what is a fadec” 😂

true that the Push-Pull cable on the NG is only on the Right Landing Gear, but deployment of the Ground Spoilers is also enabled by a rod that comes out of the Spoiler Mixer and into the Ground Spoiler Control Valve. When that valve is opened, and the Gr Splr Interlock valve is opened by the push pull cable, hydraulic power is routed to the Ground spoiler actuators to make them raise. The rod from the Spoiler Mixer is driven by cables that come from the Speed Brake Lever in the cockpit. Usually during landing, the pilots use "auto speedbrakes", where upon touchdown, an electric actuator drives the speedbrake lever to the full up position. the electric actuator is driven by a bunch of logic from both the PSEU and Radio Altimeters. Very complicated but redundant system. The Max fly-by-wire is mechanically simplified, but there's a new control box and very complicated logic involved.
@StigAviation2 күн бұрын
You still need the wheels on ground to get it to work my friend. So it’s a great explanation on something I simplified for all but you didn’t really tell me why it’s only on the right gear on the NG.

I remember reading somewhere that the 777-300ER tail skid was discontinued from production by Boeing. I think you'll find that the 10 that don't have it are newer than the 10 that do. They replaced it with software that won't allow the pilot to over-rotate. I can't remember the exact figure but I think it saves something like 70kg.

I couldn't agree with you more with the 757, the Ferrari of the skies. Not only do I think it's one of the more beautiful commercial jets still flying but it is the one absolutely needed for today's type of flying. The 57 is already high enough off the ground to accept a greater range of engines, it's already at the needed capacity and it has performance characteristics that are such that it could even service regional sized airports with 6000' runways. I think the day we had to start putting tail stands on the back of 737s to keep them from tipping during loading/unloading was the day that type started showing that Boeing was doing too much to modify an existing aircraft while failing to design a new one.

Tail Strike Protection (TSP) logic has been incorporated in the 777 FBW since the -300ER became available. It is available on the 777-200LR as well (despite shorter body); I believe all other models also have it now through the PFCs (200ER, F). The newer -300ER aircraft have the TSP logic ENHANCED and with it came the removal of the tail skid, which saves 300 pounds of aircraft weight besides maintenance costs

Yes the spoiler mixer is a pain to change. Just don forget your rigging pins or you will have a big mess and it will ruin your day. Also if you notice the 777 ailerons have the pretty much the same system as the 727. With the flaps are not extended the Outboard Aileron is locked out meaning it is just part of the wing, but when Flaps are extended, the outboard works with the inboard one. Pretty cool system. Boeing taking some old school designs and putting it on newer planes.

I remember years ago AA were trying to rely on shore power and air conditioning as much as possible, meaning they could leave the APU off while at the gate... But I don't really see that happening so much anymore. Were the cost savings not worth it or something? Even an APU is a heavy drinker. Or maybe it was just too much extra labor and time to do all the connections? Do you have any insight on that? (BTW, again, I love love love these videos)

I'm sure you must have to record fluids, and assign them to the particular Aircraft. Do you record the info on paper or electronically.? The amount added assigned to the particular number unit.? I know you have to do something to account for fluids missing from the supply tanks. Excessive consumption would show a problem with a system, and a potential failure.! Also, they are making sure you, and others aren't "acquiring" any for personal purposes or use.!😮😉😉🤔🤔😊🥇🙏🙏🙏🙏

How did you start in the airlines and would you recommend that path? Would you need an apprenticeship first with only having experience in AMT school or can you get hired right away as an A&P for a major?
@StigAviation2 күн бұрын
It’s a good thing that you’re getting experience in general Aviation but I would highly recommend that you put your application in for the major airlines. Nowadays the major airlines are very desperate for technicians, they are even taking Mechanic straight out of school. I recommend you apply either to the majors or regionals, or even helicopters and my suggestion is to steer away From general Aviation.

My two-seater Light sport aircraft has a tail skid, in my opinion every aircraft should! Only touched the tail gently once, on takeoff, when training, never did that again, realized not a good thing... it happens if not paying attention or if getting complacent or improper training. Flew with a pilot who has every rating in the books, was his multiple engine aircraft, I was flying he was reading a book, asked him what he was reading, showed me the cover it said "Pilots with tens of thousands of hours of flight time who crashed and died"... complacency... should be requirement for pilots to have ADD, attention to detail... and spend a week with a mechanic servicing the plane he flies...

Happy Thanksgiving Stig. The Max/NG vid didn't play on the gram, so being the nerd I am, i identified the Max by the exhaust plug/cone...

Why did the 737 Engine Start lever change from those white slider type switches to the black switches? (not only on the max but on newer NGs)

Just a new modernized look.

Happy Thanksgiving Stig. Good work. I worked for Boeing for almost 20 years after 21 years at an airline. Boeing stopped making the 757 because airlines simply stopped ordering them… can’t continue to make a money loser. the mad Max is called that for ‘maximum efficiency’ and the best way to tell them from an NG are the scalped C duct trailing edges on the engines. I call it the mad max as Boeing screwed up immensely with the those big engines and more importantly the CG…. Hence MCAS. Spoiler mixer was removed to save weight. My son is 737 type rated on the NG and Max for UAL. Stay safe out there

11:48 I think it’s less being able to call it a 737 from a marketing perspective, but more keeping a common type rating for pilots.
@StigAviation12 сағат бұрын
That’s also a huge factor. SWA and Alaska made sure of that 😅

11:41 are those the remnants of the eyebrow windows? I know the early NG's had them, and alot have been covered, but are those indents "as a reminder"?
@StigAviation2 күн бұрын
Some of them still have it comma they’re just plugged up, the newer 737 that is built don’t have them, matter fact I even showed a comparison in one of my older videos.

Thank you for your response to my question on your last video regarding the ringing bell. It's all about safety, isn't it? 👍 And here I was thinking that school was back in session 😄 You always amaze and impress me, Stig!
