This guy made everyone forget how to use the radio. ATC calls for a go around without saying go around, then tries to call up 638 after handing him off to approach. Then later, PD Helo, "can I get a heading" ATC: "Sure go get him boys" PD Helo "No really, can we get a heading?" Later. PD Helo "Whats his altitude?" ATC: "About 3000 ft" PD Helo: "Ok, and whats his altitude?" LOL

I can see how someone unfamiliar with the area could get confused. Captree Bridge is a visual approach fix to Republic Airport. This is the point where the pilots contact Republic (FRG) tower. This bridge is near the west end of Fire Island, a long, narrow piece of land. Immediately to the west of it is another long and narrow island. Looking north from over the Captree Bridge, you can see the Republic airport just a few miles away. If you don't know the area it is easy to confuse the Captree Bridge with the Atlantic Beach Bridge 25 miles west of it. Both are near the west end of a long, narrow island; both have another long, narrow strip of land immediately to the west; and both have an airport just to the north. I think the pilot thought that he was starting an approach to Republic, was probably on the FRG tower frequency, and then was surprised when the airport in front of him did not match what he had on his approach chart.

Nice explanation! Thanks.. there was nothing wrong with the radio… the aircraft later landed in KFRG (escorted by PD15) and he did communicate with the twr there Part 2 of this video will be released today in our channel.. stay tuned!

@@Flight_Follower oh they would definitely have to love it, it really is a calling. And some people thrive on more continuous adrenaline. Shorter bursts were fine for me with the police but I’m also in Australia and we rarely had encounters with armed offenders, especially compared to US police who deserve every penny that they earn! They are amazing. I never saw a juvenile with a weapon here once, our culture is just so different and for the police it’s much safer. I’m not saying that it doesn’t happen but it’s rare so the adrenaline rush was not as frequent for us. I did however become involved in what would be the slowest police chase in history of a 95yr old man who had no idea for miles that we were behind him, 3 cars were trying to get him and even at the time it was quite funny (I’m in the country so not a metro area). He was finally caught in a supermarket car park and was shocked to be surrounded. He really was a menace, wandering all over the back roads. So that was exciting 🤣. Still gives me a laugh years later. Best wishes to you.

With a full name, you can look up credentials on the federal airmen's registry. I doubt his license was revoked but certainly suspended. Likely need to do an exam flight with an FAA examiner along with a bunch of recurrent training before getting it back. There is a number (name) for this type of test but I forget it. The FAA won't make it easy that is for sure. The mistakes were so outrageous, he may get is medical pulled -- especially if he is an older gentleman. No comms, no transponder and no f'ing clue about the airspace he was in. If that happens, it'll cost him many thousands of dollars and years to get that back.
