ATC always wants fuel in the opposite of what the pilots say.

On departure, endurance is not a problem, normally, but lots of fuel in the tanks is (for the Fire brigade). So pounds of fuel is most useful. On arrival, endurance is an issue, so that should be given

SERIOUSLY. I watched another video where the pilot producing the video was saying that weight was more important than time because it speaks to volume. Another pilot posted and said time was important so the ATC could factor in any delays. I can’t remember which way was suggested so that the ATC could calculate based on the aircraft type, all info for firefighter personnel. I guess there IS no true standard. Just taking off, I suppose, as I just noticed ^^^ comment above, time/delay wouldn’t be a factor. Didn’t hear them ask if he’d be overweight tho.
@user-microburstАй бұрын
@ overweight is of little concern for the ATC. Fuel that can burn if the airplane breaks apart on the runway is what the firemen need to know. Also the presence of hazmats. This constitutes the “NOTOF” (notice to firemen). But ATC also needs endurance, when there is s mayday, so it all mixes up. That’s why as s pilot, I will say tons of fuel on board on departure and endurance on arrival, if I’m in emergency. Also, the emergency can affect the endurance and it takes a while to figure out. If it is no factor (on departure) if don’t care and I will give whatever the original flight time was, but I’ll still give the tons of fuel for the fire guys. Conversely, on arrival I will tell them if I have “minimum fuel” or “mayday” fuel and if I can figure out exact endurance I might give it

Why not get a check especially since they are right there?

“We have smoke /fumes”. Ok, continue flying AWAY from the airport and keep climbing. Sounds reasonable 😂 JFK atc. Not the brightest.

Any update yet on the cause of the smoke/fumes? Glad it did not turn into fire and that they managed to return safely. Always happy to hear good news.

Wait, I thought only Boeing had problems..

That whole fuel discussion is a waste of time while the pilots are trying to sort through the emergency. It needs to stop. They can get souls on board from dispatch. The pilots will let you know if they are minimum or critical fuel.
@mobius7089Ай бұрын
The fuel is important for ARFF and loiter time. Its also a good reminder for the flight crew to check their fuel.
@justlikedev8700Ай бұрын
ATC has to know if the plane will be landing overweight, and if fumes start upon landing, they know how much fuel is inside the plane to get a better understanding.

@@scottw5315 Obliviously not a pilot here. If fire, how many fire trucks will it take to put the fire out. Small amount of fuel, not many trucks. Full of fuel, roll everything you have and plan for backup. You never have enough fuel in an airplane,,,,, until you have a fire, then you have too much!
@scottw5315Ай бұрын
@@kenhurley4441 Why worry about fire when you don't know if it will make it to the airport. They have the same crash crew on standby no matter the emergency. Asking for fuel and souls on board is antiquated stupid.
