Great video Gavin! I particularly liked the shots with the light blaster so I went out and bought one for myself and also the creative slide kits. I was disappointed though the creative kits didn't include the slide that you used. That was the reason that I bought the package as I wished to shoot the same style images. Where can I purchase the slide that you used?

Great video Gavin with very useful tips. My home studio is also our TV/Living Room with soft furnishings, carpets and curtains. Does anyone know if these smoke machines leave a residue?
@GavinHoey6 жыл бұрын
This type of smoke machine uses water based fog fluid and doesn't leave any residue.
@dunnymonster6 жыл бұрын
Brilliant as always and a beautiful model too! I bought a small smoke machine for my own " small home studio " but I've yet to try it out. I didn't realise there were different smoke types, I'll have to stock up on the various fluids 😊

@thegavinhoey - Great video. I do have a question, the first set you indicated that CO2 was being used but it looks like she is using the Hurricane 1200 Fog Machine for all 3. I understand about the light and heavy fluids but how do you setup the Hurricane 1200 for CO2? Thanks.
@GavinHoey6 жыл бұрын
It's CO2 effect smoke, not real CO2 )which is VERY hard to come by in the UK). It's called various names as mentioned at 2:28 :)
@vinniemac583 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old video, but maybe Gavin will still see the comment - I just acquired a fog machine and came acros this video - super content, and a great model! I have a LightBlaster and tried it with the fog, but couldn't get the sharpness of the lines you got Gavin. I was using a 3D printed gobo which has good edges that projects well onto a background. 50mm 1.8 lens wide open. I tried varying the focus distance on the lens but didn't see a lot of diference. Am I missing something?

hi Gavin, I would like to buy a smoke machine but I'm afraid of ruining my camera and lenses !! What kind of smoke machine should I buy? In water, oil? I'm a little confused.

Sorry for the late reply. Look for water based smoke machines every time ;)

Gavin, thanks for that video. I wanted to have a go at using a smoke machine in our work / office studio. Was told by our landlords NO as they were unsure if smoke alarms would be affected. Any idea on this ??
@GavinHoey6 жыл бұрын
I took professional advice on this a few years back. The upshot was it probably won't set off most domestic smoke alarms but might set off optically triggered detectors.

For the problem of focusing with a lot of smoke, wouldn't it be easier to use a manual lens, with no autofocus at all, while staying at the same distance from the subject?

Great as always, I make my own fog fluid so much cheaper.( ask if you not know how to make it) One point is to watch out if you have Smoke Alarms.... I found out the hard way LOL..
@GavinHoey6 жыл бұрын
Hi Chaz. From my non-scientific experiments, different smoke machines and different smoke fluids have very different effects on household smoke alarms. Some set them off, others don't.
