On the afternoon of Dec. 4 1971, Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention were playing a show at The Hourglass, a ballroom at the Montreux Casino (Switzerland). At about 4:15PM, a "fan", who had brought a flare to the event pulled the string igniting it and setting the room ablaze. Fortunately, only three of the approximately 2,500 people in attendance reported injuries and those were relatively minor. The Casino burned to the ground.

Claude Nobs was the founder and general manager of the Montreux Jazz Festival. In 1971 Deep Purple decided to produce and record their album Machine Head in Montreux. The group was scheduled to record at the Montreux Casino shortly after Frank Zappa performed. During Zappa's performance, the casino caught fire, and was reduced to ashes. Nobs saved several young people who had hidden in the casino, thinking they would be sheltered from the flames.--Wikipedia. Some of the audio from the Zappa concert can be found on KZbin. Claude Nobs died in 2013.

Jan Hots and learn wrong, even though it sounds ok. Many beginning guitarists take the opening riff as a power chord, when it is not; it is a perfect fourth interval, meaning you only play two strings instead of three. It still is easy, but many budding young rock guitarists still play it wrong.
@FutureAIDev20159 жыл бұрын
lawrenc1 Is there sheet music available, so people could learn it correctly? Or is it the way they play the written music that's wrong?
@lawrenc19 жыл бұрын
It is very easy....I think the proper tab is available online. However, I would say the proper way to play it is similar to the most popular way I have seen it played. Instead of picking a power chord, pluck a perfect fourth in the same fret pattern...there is no need to make a bar chord or to use two frets at any time.

Many people say that this was the first song they learned to play on the guitar... me too, I had learned the intro way back then... but the solo I finally learned twenty years later!

Smoke on the Water" is a song by the British rock band Deep Purple. It was first released on their 1972 album Machine Head. In 2004, the song was ranked number 434 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time, ranked number 4 in Total Guitar magazine's Greatest Guitar Riffs Ever, and in March 2005, Q magazine placed "Smoke on the Water" at number 12 in its list of the 100 greatest guitar tracks;"Smoke on the Water" is known for and recognizable by its central theme, a four-note blues scale melody in G minor, harmonised in parallel fourths. The riff, played on a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar by Ritchie Blackmore, is later joined by hi-hat and distorted organ, then drums, then electric bass parts before the start of Ian Gillan's vocal. We all came out to Montreux, on the Lake Geneva shoreline to make records with the mobile, we didn't have much time -Opening lyrics Jon Lord doubles the guitar part on a Hammond C3 organ played through a distorted Marshall amp, creating a tone very similar to that of the guitar. Blackmore usually plays the main riff using a finger pluck] or occasionally a plectrum upstroke (to accentuate the tonic). The song order is intro(riff)-verse-chorus-riff-verse-chorus-riff-guitar solo-riff-verse-chorus-riff-organ solo. The first solo is performed on guitar by Ritchie Blackmore, and the second and final solo is performed on an organ by Jon Lord until the song fades out........awesome riff D J International's
