Thanks for the informative video! I'm rebuilding several, one in.410, one .45Colt,and other in .45-70, using percussion powder in all. I appreciate your mention & demonstration of extraction without a spring, as I'm having extractor problems with the .45Colt, due to the smaller rim.

Accurate 5744 is bulky and a great smokeless powder for trapdoor loads.

That powder has been unobtanium in my area for years, and list price (if you can order it) is approaching $75 per pound. There's got to be a better way.....

Yup there is, it is called black powder. In my brother in laws original 4570 at 65 grains of cartridge grade Goex or 2FG and a 420 grain government round nose bullet. That load made a 1" group at 50 yards.

The second trapdoor looks to have an aftermarket taller front sight. Did you buy that sight or make it ? My trapdoor shoots like 20 inches high with smokeless loads.

you might be fighting spin drift ....if you look at a buffington sight you will see that the slide angles to the left.....

in a contender 16 unique i use (use it on your own risk ) 458 333 grain lee cast powdercoat i think those bullets are to hard , lead a soft lead powder coated will be fine

16 grains of Unique is a load for modern lever actions using a 405 grain lead bullet. Lyman manual says 13 grains starting load to 16.5 grains maximum for lever actions. 10 grains to 13 grains of Unique for trap door rifles in good condition. ( must be checked by a competent gun Smith formiliar with these rifles)

What primers are you using? I have read and/or seen people say "only magnum with blackpowder loads" and others say "only magnum with smokeless powders."

Ive literally never used magnum primers, even when loading 300 win mag. Its a communist plot.

An accidental double charge with smokeless can ruin your whole day. Best to stay with black powder or Pyrodex.
