Have seen Smokey several times in concert. He always delivers. Smokey is such a prolific songwriter. Besides all of his own hits he wrote for dozens of other artists. That was magic. Smokey Robinson is a true American poet and a great performer. And Linda's voice is stellar. And one thing about Linda is her restraint in duets. I've seen her do duets with Smokey (here), Aarone Neville, Ann Savoy, and even Mick Jagger with the Rolling Stones tour in Tucson in 1978, when she did Tumblin' Dice with Mick. With the power in her voice, she could have easily blown any one of them off the stage. But she never did. She was always down to earth and never showed anyone else up (see also the Trio albums). Linda's is one of the two best voices I've ever heard in my 74 years of listening (the best ever is Eva Cassidy). Thanks for this reaction!

I have listened to both of these artists most of my life & had a lot of their music. Both are legends & have a huge library of beautiful songs. Smokey is one of the best songwriters around. You just don't find talent like this today.

Harri so glad you are sampling MoTown and Smokey. This clip is from MoTown's 25th Anniversary Special. What a memorable show. Many of the great MoTown acts performed, no one disappointed ( except for the Supremes reunion which lasted about 20 seconds). These two are giants of Pop; irreplaceable national treasures. No autone necessary here. They are the real thing, and Smokey's lyrics were truly poetic. Now, Harri try a little of The Four Tops. Levi Stubbs, another giant. Or you could sample another Rondstadt duet that is another platinum memory, her duet with Aaron Neville "Don't Know Much'.

"Tears of a Clown" would always catch my ear, when it came on the radio in the 60s. SR wrote Ooh Baby Baby and Tracks of My Tears around then too, and Linda covered them in the 70s.

Agree, it deserved a standing ovation. This was one of the greatest performances in my 60 yrs of listening to music.He either wrote or co wrote both songs. Actually Linda recorded both songs also. Were incredible. Her and Dusty Springfield were noted to do covers as good or better than the original. You saw it yourself wen u reacted to Tumbling Dice.
