You can tell that Aretha, Diana and Smokey came from the same neighborhood. There has always been great underlying respect between Aretha and Diana. In an industry that loves to make female artists bitter rivals. That never existed between those two, in any interview never a side eye given, just the opposite. The real story is that Smokey Robinson got Diana Ross pregnant when she was 13 and had the child when she was 14. The child was born in Detroit Michigan and Berry Gordy Jr. brought the child to a friend in Gary Indiana to look after while He was building Motown. After Motown was established, as a payoff for keeping Her mouth shut Diana Ross was giving a recording contract. Berry was paying the family off who was looking after the child. Diana Ross was roaming around Gary Indiana keeping up with the child's progress and the child became greater than all of them.😮

I think Diana Ross got Pregnant by Smokey Robinson at age 14. That was just after Smokey met Berry Gordy. When Berry found out he said, you can't be a Star if you have that Baby from a 14 year old Girl, so Berry said, let's send that Baby to my old Friend Joe Jackson and let him raise it.
