Thank you for this post. I had the pleasure of working for Mr. Smokey Robinson,Marv Tarplin, Spike was on drums and Tony Newton was playing Bass. It was Tony that made the introduction for me to Marv in Cleveland Ohio. I was working with the Contours at the Music Box in Cleveland ,Ohio at that time. My big break came when they came to LEO'S CASINO. A long story. The house bands Horn section could not get the arrangements together so adding a hand percussionist to the mix made it right. Smokey taught me something about money. I am going to leave it there. GOD BLESS SMOKEY, R.I.P. Marv,Ronnie,Bobby.

Smokey is and Always will be My Favorite Singer of All Times. I'm so happy that he came to The AU-Rene Theater in Ft. Lauderdale Fl back in December 2022. My sisters wouldn't let me go with them back in the day when he came to town because I was too young. My Favorite song of his is Quite Storm. Since the age of 12. I would do My homework listening to Smokey and got all A's. I only play his CD's when I'm running errands, at the beach, or at the park. And he ìs The Clock of My Lifetime. His music really relaxes Me. Thanks, Smokey, for staying True to Yourself. Love Always, Janice from Miami.

I like to say happy birthday to Smokey Robinson my favorite and my husband and please wife don't get jealous because guess what he got plenty of fans to love him ain't never been with him but I just want you to know he's always been my husband my sister bought me the whole collection of 35 35 years of Smokey Robinson's collection album she's not here right now because the good Lord came and took her home cuz she won't be suffering no more Mona bought me that album and I sure appreciate it because she knowed how much I love Smokey Robinson and I always keep it on the top shelf and then I got some of the which colors in my side of my CD player but I think the Lord for my sister Moni because she know how much I love Smokey Robinson and she know she's the reason why I have my dog GG because her friend asked her did she know somebody wanted a dog and she's like yeah my sister and I paid $100 for the dog and I've been had her ever since she's going to be 12 years old December 8th she was born December 8th she was bo she was born 2008 78 2008 that's when I got my baby and I think it praise God for that my sister Mona she did that and that's the kind of person she was I think that she's up there giving God some jokes because she loved the joke around Marty was born October 6th and I just been thinking praise God for that sister cuz I know she's going to do everything she can she probably start acquiring in heaven but she always started something down here she made me laugh she made me cry she gave Joy to me on everything that she did and I just thankful for that little baby I don't remember the little boy's name but he looks just like my sister he has all that pretty hair just like his mother and he's just so gorgeous he's a little man kind of remind me of myself they said my granddad could hold me and he would take me outside and lay with me on the by the oak tree and this is in 1962 and said he was I was all right until he linked his head toward me and I started screaming so I really didn't understand that but a lot of things you don't understand because you don't know what's going on but yeah my great-grandfather he did that and he was singing he always sung just like my dad he was a singer too and that's something we all gotta, we likes to sing I think I like to say more than anybody but yes nevertheless my grandfather he was born in 1886 wow is that a number and he died in 1963 and I was 3 years old or 2 years that was 2 years old and no I don't even think I was that old he passed away and all my uncles and my mother and them told me that was a real sad day and I just know that my grandfather been watching over me ever since I've been a child because I was his first grandchild and I just thank him praise the Lord for being in the family that they might not remember a lot of stuff but I do that's the gift of God has gave me and I thank him so very much because love and understanding and true love is the key to everything not that somewhat love that everyday love that Jesus give you you never leave me nor forsake you he's always with you when you're not thinking but I just thinking praise God that he does everything for everyone and everybody I just asked you to look down on my cousin Lavelle because he just lost his young daughter and somebody killed her and she just had turned 27 on her birthday tonight that she got killed so y'all pray for her I don't know what her name is but the Lord do know so pray for her and pray for Lavelle and his family most of all pray for everybody cuz right now it's hard times it's hard everything and loving Jesus is everything and I'm going to sign off right now because I'm about to cry and I know if I cry it hurts me so bad but smooches to everyone and great love in Jesus name have a great morning

Anybody alive and into music of the past 60 years knows Smokey is one of the creative giants of the 20th century. This clip showcases the hard-headed business side of him which is an eye-opener. Fascinating find. The interviewer seems a bit thick though (Was this a "borderline" sexual thing? Did they coerce you into making this? Dumb questions...)

Interesting what Smokey says about black music on the radio in the 70's. I heard tons of black music on my local radio station and Casey's top 40 through the late 70's till punk and new wave took over. I'm an older listener and I don't hear the black music I still love on the radio anymore. It all turned into rap/hip-hop and vulgarity, which is not music to my ears.
