The Wooded Beardsman

Күн бұрын

In day 5 of this survival series we try again for a spring turkey to turn into a meal. Zach builds a bushcraft table and we dig into our food spoils collected so far. I'll boil up some cattails and eat alewife which we netted earlier in this season. Lobster is also a staple item in this adventure so we check our traps again to see if we'll eat or not.
Full Season 5 Playlist: • Season 5: The Wilderne...
I will show you how to prepare, clean, and cook porcupine in a very simple stew.
We also are looking for other wild foods like turkey as it is the spring season. We do manage to get a red squirrel in a catch and cook which we add to our smoked fish.
The goal is to replace any calories we burn foraging for wild foods in order to balance our energy expenditures as modern foragers.
We bait our lobster traps with alewife or river herring which we dip netted the day before. This is all about survival and eating the foods that we can easily forage and scavenge from wild sources. We are really trying to balance our calories eating only wild edibles.
We will show you how to cook and clean the clams and eat the stomach. We will remove the skin and also purge and wash the clams and boil in water.
Malcolm 'The Hidden Woodsman": thehiddenwoods...
Instagram: www.instagram....
The Wilderness Living Challenge is not a "survival challenge," but more like a test of the modern hunter gatherer to sustain himself on wild foods only. We will weight ourselves at the start of the challenge and weight out at the end. If we lose any weight at all, we lose the challenge!
Check out Zach Fowler: • Catch And Cook Alewife...
Follow along as we struggle to get wild foods!
I am joined by Zach Fowler on his home turf in Maine, USA in the spring.
Here, we plan to do Season 5 of The Wilderness Living Challenge. The goal of the challenge is to gain or maintain our body weight eating only the wild food we can collect on site using whatever means necessary.
Winning the Wilderness Living Challenge is harder than it seems.
Season 5: Maine Spring, takes place in Maine, USA with coastal food priorities including fish, clams, crab, seaweed, groundhog, pigeon, turkey, dandelion, cattail, and whatever else is edible! Nothing is off the menu, if it's edible, we'll eat it.
We make use of all the resources in this challenge to meet the demands for calories imposed by the human body!

Man, watchin you and Zack cut up and have fun is so rewarding. I just watched Season 1 of your Wilderness Living Challenge. The personality in this one is a huge improvement. I can tell you're doing better on this season than the first. I love that you're living off the land but also using all the tools at your disposal. You made a point from S1 that it's nearly impossible to fully live off nature, even with our tools due to the modern world's patterns, habits, and laws. Can't wait to finish this season. Thank you for your vids and your perspective. It's so nice to see others who share my mindset.

@27:36 in the video... I tried something like once upon a time ago. The Axe just passed a hairs breath from my inside left ankle. The next swing I planned on being more careful. The axe head grazed the target and, again, a fraction of an inch from my inner left ankle. This was decades ago and I have NEVER attempted to handle an axe since. A MOST vivid memory to this day.

I got interested in Bushcraft a few years ago, and the skills learned in that endeavor are invaluable. However, I’ve come to the realization that Nessmuck, Jim Bridger, Kit Carson and the like would curse us for not using modern technology and materials. So now I utilize what makes sense, and consider myself more an outdoorsman than anything!

Gerald Moore both. Less wild game from habitat loss and pollution, plus restrictions make it harder since you can’t just hunt whatever you want. I can’t even go fishing around here, water is so polluted that the fish have started bleeding through their skin with no explanation why, no way in hell am I about to consume that.
