I like the look of this knot because when I tie and Albright, or Alberto knot, the final wind, or two can override the leader and become a bit messy, so I lose confidence in it, and so tie it again. This knot looks like it might solve that problem. Many thanks. Raymondo

i just go back and forth between slowly sinching the knot down and spreading it out carefully as i pull tighter and tighter, so it lays down clean when tight. It seems to fix the problem your talkin about where the mainline bunches up on itself; just have to be slow and methodical with those two knots i guess. Oh and im always making sure that the braid is nice and soaked during that process. wet knots are tough knots.

This improved albright knot still has the weakness that the leader is folded When this knot fails, it will fail on that fold due to the microfractures created by the knot. SC and FG are better because they don't require folding the leader. SC is easier and arguably stronger.

The fold doesn't matter. The braid bites into the leader. You can literally cut the leader in half before cinching the knot.

@@birdbig1 It matters very much. When the braid bites into the fold, it will fail at that point. Then the leader and the tail will separate. Like I said, the SC and FG avoid this weakness.

The weakness in the improved Albright is from the braid wrapping around the standing line and the leader, instead of around just the leader like the FG or PR. Also from not having a half hitch or rizzuto finish where the fold is. So I guess without half hitches the fold is a weakness also. You can tie an FG with folded leader. It'll just be harder to cast through the guides. You can even cut the leader in half and use 2 pieces. The strength comes from the wraps biting into leader. Improved Albright isn't able to bite the same because the braid is wrapping over itself and the leader. Then there's no half hitches after. The FG without half hitches is similar to the Albright. If you finish the Albright with half hitches and rizzuto instead of the "improved" finish, it would almost be an FG with double leader.

Its an improved albright knot. Extra turns through the loop at the end which is a method to negate the albright's weakness for un picking itself after repeated casts.
