Beautiful looking plane also. I know you use native Australian timbers for plane making. What species are used by traditional Asian plane makers? I have a nice piece of European beech that I want to make one of these types of planes from.

Hi. The planes I have seen in Malaysia and Thailand generally used a wood they referred to as rosewood. Botanic name unknown. Probably a bit more dense than beech. Because this design uses a low set body you need a wood that is very dense to give the plane some authority over the wood. Beech may be a little lightweight for this design. Maybe worth buying a more dense wood. As a lot of time goes into making a plane so you want it to work well. Regards Terry

@@hntgordonco.2514 The high end Chinese plane used rosewood, ebony and shun gee etc , all of these are denser than the beech.
