dont you end up with a double grout line when you nest them? shouldnt you leave the lines out on 2 edges?
@gordontarpley11 жыл бұрын
Are these supposed to interlock with other copies? If so, the faux grout line ALL the way around the exterior of the casting will create a 1/2" grout line as opposed to 1/4" like the center areas, breaking the illusion of real stone pavers. The look could be uniform if the grout lines were left off of sides in two directions (Tops and rights. for example) so the grout line would be a uniform 1/4" when these are laid down together.

No, the same perimeter grout line is shared when going to the next section, this isn't rocket science
@gordontarpley11 ай бұрын
@@1981LAB cool snark. Unfortunately you're incorrect. Just watched again to be sure I didnt miss something and... I didn't. Wherever the castings meet up the grout will be twice as thick because both mating edges have the faux grout cast in. It's not rocket science.
@1981LAB11 ай бұрын
@gordontarpley the grout space on the edge of the mold is a void space so that very same grout line falls into the previously made grout line thus equal distance there is no increase in size. What you are saying is basically every other prefab mold on the market is also incorrect, and that's simply not the case.
@daveuncles9198 жыл бұрын
If you have a 1/4" grout on the inside stone and a 1/4" on the out side of the stone you will have a 1/2" grout line on the out side and a 1/4" on the inside stone? If you are going to have 1/4" joint, the joints on the outside should be 1/8" so when the two mats are placed together they create a 1/4" grout joint and if it leaves a line you can run a grout roller down it.

Very true
@elymisany5 жыл бұрын
You dont use 2 stamps with symmetrical stamps like this therefore when joining the next section you place the outside grout edge of the stamp inside of the previously stamped grout line, it gives you a working point for the next placement of the stamp, going with 1/8" around the edge leaves too much room for error, if the stamp isnt perfectly lined up on multiple edges it can completely throw off the thickness of the grout lines.

I did so want to temporarily insert paint sticks vertically in between all the slabs and the box frame (like tile spacers), to make sure everything was located correctly.

@gooblegobble29749 жыл бұрын
this is incorrect, two sides of the stamp should be groutless or whole perimeter should be 1/2 a grout line
@otmcc78384 жыл бұрын
I agree the outside grout lines should be half of the field size.
@cyberneticsynthetic57502 жыл бұрын
So 1/8?
@1981LAB11 ай бұрын
No you are incorrect and the video is correct, perimeter grout lines are shared with the following mold. Thus, no increase in grout lines. The spacing will be messed up doing what you suggest.
@1LSUredneck5 ай бұрын
@@1981LAB they would be shared if you only used one mold and over lapped the exterior grout line for the next stamp. If I were to have 2 molds and layed one down to stamp, and butted up a second mold and stamped them, logic says that you would be leaving the impression in the concrete of both molds, thus creating two grout lines butting up next to each other that will be double the size of the field grout lines. If I’m missing something, please explain to me how 1/4” x 2 still equals one 1/4 grout line. The logic and math just doesn’t add up.
@gregmitchell62136 жыл бұрын
The first thing I noticed was that this would create a 1/2” grout line around the stamp. Then went to the comments and it seems everyone else did also.

Thinking the samething. Like leave the top and the left side or bottom or right or any way with the grout lines not being put against another grout line form.

I am curious, can one make tool organizers using this method for wrenches and screwdrivers? Will it be to heavy for drawers with the tools or is there a lighter material/silicone that would work best?

Smooth-On What would be the approximate cost for making the one featured in the video?
@Frxstynah5 жыл бұрын
I dont think this was intended to save money on stamps. It was intended to show how you can make your own custom stamps which are unique to set the concrete contractor apart from his generic competitors. Custom unique jobs can generate some profit for them. Like building your own furniture is almost always more expensive than Ikea..but you make what you want at whatever quality level you desire, its not about saving money.
