Mum couldnt wear hers at work either but would the rest of the time. I asked my mum why dad didnt wear his ring when i was like 10 and i cant remember why he doesnt (I think it was just a comfort thing or he was worried hed lose it cause he would have to take it off all the time cause of work and his hobbies and everything), but when i asked if it bothered her she said 'look, no ones gonna be looking at your father even without a ring on, im fine if he doesnt wear it' and honestly, savage mum.

The one about the book between the 37yo and the 25yo... the man said he read it more than a decade ago, meaning he was in his 20s when he read the book and still loved it! So that means his views about women must have matched (at that time in the least)!
@terra_the_nightingale135Ай бұрын
I disagree with that, it doesn’t mean your views HAVE to match. Though this guy might’ve. In the case of my partner, he read the books when he was a kid, loves them and knows how bad they are and talks about how ridiculous they are with enjoyment. @beingWantableАй бұрын
@terra_the_nightingale135 that is the point though, he was an adult when he read it. Like if you like a book a lot at least in the moment of reading you feel those comments fit in the story. Although if it was a decade ago and this post was drom 2016 that means it was 2006 where these thoughts were still prevalent... but still just something about someone reading those books as an adult and not being like "wtf, no!?" True story: My Dad left my Mom for his old high school crush. She was the head cheerleader who wouldn't go out with him because he was the son of the town drunk. Twenty years later he was doing well for himself and she was sitting on the shelf not getting any younger, so she looked him up. When he dragged his heels over leaving his wife, she started stalking him, following us on family outings (she's the reason we had to leave Disney World early). Eventually he left, they got married, and we never heard from him again. We did hear through the grapevine that their marriage didn't last, and he's had two other wives since then. I've run into her a few times but she didn't recognize me all grown up. Thanks for listening; it felt good to get that out.

Also she's overlooking how dangerous these false narratives could get. What that Tiktok gym girl was doing is creepy and should be taken way more seriously. I get that she didn't have any ill intentions, but if the situation had been different and she had done this to someone else, she could've destroyed their life. And from the sounds of it, she didn't actually learn her lesson because she implied she was going to find another "gym crush" to sexually harass. It's really shameful how the people surrounding OOP enabled this behavior for their amusement, especially OOP's wife who didn't seem to care how uncomfortable he felt. The fact that OOP's wife told him to apologize to the woman sexually harassing him is wild.
@TheHalloween_JackАй бұрын
Yeah, I'm really confused? Can't tell if I missed something but like.. bro. I would be SO fucking disgusted if someone was secretly making tiktoks of me and talking about how I was flirting with them. Like, they're allowed to love whoever you want, but if you're friends with them, you gotta disclose you have feelings TO them, so that they can decide for themself whether they're comfortable being friends with you at this time. I just feel so icky because there's so many instances on reddit of people not just gushing about their crush but doing some REALLY unorthodox stuff. Like the journal. Idk, I'ma leave it there, but jesus. I have no clue why anyone was brushing over this. The amount of people that lie and say about people making advances, or interpreting kindness and flirtation is insane. Just because OP is a dude, doesn't mean that it's not creepy to sexualise him. Regardless of gender, saying no to being recorded is okay, and it shouldn't be questioned.
@davidfitzpatrick8061Ай бұрын
This was my take, too. It felt really gross that the wife was not only downplaying OOP's discomfort, but actually enabling it further. I wish OOP would have just asked her to stop and, if she didn't, to then report her to the gym staff.
@cutegixieАй бұрын
I think as Shayne said, this is a great role reversal test. If the genders were reversed this could have been a massive issue. I would've feared for OOP's safety if they were a woman both because of the stalker and because of how the wife (but in role reversal husband) would react. I'm glad that everyone could laugh it off, but OOP was really misled by his wife into keeping it up. He should've told Haley immediately that he new, why it was inappropriate and if they wanted to agree to keep making the videos together that is another story. He's so lucky his wife found it funny and didn't see it as proof of an affair.
@abradyvАй бұрын
Also, Haley is not a kid!! She’s 22. Yes, she’s young; but old enough to know better.
@TheHalloween_JackАй бұрын
@@cutegixie Yeah, he's "lucky she thought it was funny and didn't see it as proof of an affair". But he's also got the misfortune of having a wife that enables others to sexualise him without permission/ notifying him, and doesn't validate him when he's uncomfortable with someone's actions. "Oh, you're uncomfortable? Oh well, I think it's funny. Stop complaining" and then because of that invalidation, he goes to reddit, and then it blows way outta proportion. And then she blames him for not knowing that reddit stories end up on tiktok (or youtube). And she also tells their friends about it and, I assume with how she is, she probably explained it in a way that sounds funny, so the friends also take that energy and make it into a joke. It's just sad, really, that no one in his circle actually respects him or his feelings. And they seem to have a stable marriage, so the guy's probably gonna spend the rest of his lifetime with a woman who just doesn't respect that he can be upset/hurt about someone's actions.

You are allowed to be uncomfortable with close contact because of someone's outfit. That doesn't always mean the other person's wearing something inappropriate. For example, if on the beach an aspiring surfer asked me to, idk... help them with practicing pop-ups, I would decline. I'm not comfortable with possibly having to touch them to correct their posture while we're both in swimsuits. Not sure if that example makes sense bc I know nothing about surfing but you get my point.
@annikan42Ай бұрын

I think the other thing to keep in mind is in the context of the story, it was stated he didn't actually bring up her outfit to her. The way it was read, it sounded like it was just something he was thinking but had kept to himself. Which to your point, I think is totally a valid feeling for OP/an okay way to approach it. It's not like he was telling her what she should or shouldn't wear, but was just uncomfortable.

Gym story: He is absolutely within his rights to refuse to be recorded. She is a complete stranger. And he does not know what she will do with the video. Once she has the footage, he has no control how someone could edit it or make it look. And she is wrong and weird for pressuring him. The only acceptable reaction of her would have been to say:"Thats completely fine. I wont record it then", or get someone else to help her. And the way she reacted along with what was said about both of their appearances makes me think she absolutle wanted to post this somewhere, maybe insinuating that she is so attractive, that good looking guys like to get close to her.

The gym story was concerning. The creating of a false relationship is so dangerous, she couldve imploded the man's life and it only takes one implication or false accusation of inappropriate behaviour. The man wasn't an asshole and was right to refuse on the terms of concern he had, I feel like he wasn't judging haley but rather was preemptively concerned with others interpreting of such a situation. The wife in my opinion is an asshole, she not only dismissed the concerns of her husband as harmless but then encouraged him to continue for her pleasure. His wife should know better, jesus her husband is twice haleys age. The wife needs to really self reflect cause her behaviour toward both her husband and haley was damn near worse than the initial reddit post. Also reality TV is fake, sorry but it's being controlled by producers behind the scenes, there's nothing real about it. The people on the show are almost cartoon characters. 1:01:37 Hot take, I guess, but why do other people think they get to decide for you if something that you feel is violating to you, actually... isn't? Like, it didn't happen to you. Would his wife think it was so hilarious if some guy did this to her at the gym and wrote creepy fanfiction about how he's stalking her? I had an incident happen in my life that I felt scared and violated over that was turned into some hilarious anecdote by the one person I thought I could trust the most, and tell our friends about every time she could. Some people didn't believe her, some people were worried about me because I was afraid and messed up about it, but it was so fucking funny to her. I don't know why. I still don't know why. But even writing about it here makes me feel like I'm having a low grade panic attack. She doesn't get it, so she feels like I'm being dramatic, but I've cried alone about it so many times. I've told her to stop and thinking about it makes me feel gross and ashamed, but she thinks that because she wouldn't feel that way, I shouldn't, so im being ridiculous. I don't even know whether I'm more upset about being violated in that way or that this person who i thought of as a soulmate thinks it's funny. I'm curious how old his wife is being like that on TikTok and letting this girl just make shit up. It doesn't matter that his identity might be obscured. He knows it's him. It's weird.

I couldn't agree more. I've been through something like it as well. Where my peers, years down the line when the attacker was long gone, decided to flip the script. They claimed I was the attacker and it was because I was into him. They'd remind me of it and make jokes how others shouldn't stand too close to me. I couldn't go against them because 1 of course denial makes them more persistent 2 I couldn't talk without crying about what happened. When OP described how his wife and friends all acted out and joked about his intended attack I started to feel sick. He had the right idea from the start and everyone thought it was a joke. Would his wife think it was funny if it happened to her? If OP and their friends acted out her experience instead? Would she get it if she bothered to compare it to something that would make her _feel the way he felt,_ not the literal same scenario? I'm so sorry you were put through all of it. You deserved so much better. I hope she's no longer in your life.

I think she would be fine with it, given the fact it's for social media

47:05 - With all due respect, the guy said he just didn't want to be recorded and sure, maybe the outfit was a contributing factor (which we can call out for) but from what I gathered, he would have said no to even another guy if the guy wanted it to be recorded. He didn't sound like he told her it was because her outfit.

The last story is sticking in my head. I'm with the person who said "what would we say if this was a man coming up to a woman," because this guy sounded really uncomfortable! His wife may have found it funny but it was obvious that he didn't. We've seen people online ruin people's jobs and lives over lies like these. Maybe this dude could have gotten a few less laughs and a bit more support.

Sleeper villain of the last story is OP’s wife! I feel like if wife had just let OP talk to Haley after finding her tiktoks, they would have avoided a bunch of bullshit. Like she’s iconic and hilarious but also she should’ve just let him stop it. Also doesn’t seem like she really respected how uncomfortable he was about being filmed.
@Maxolotl124Ай бұрын
I kinda have to disagree with "hilarious and iconic" ;-;. She spent the whole story minimizing the situation and OP's very valid feelings of discomfort with it. She should NOT have found this situation funny, she was high key SUPER shitty in this situation 😭

Iconic isn't the word I'd use, when she belittled and downplayed the harassment her husband was facing and forced him to continue the charade

I loved the “Xanth” series when I was a kid, then read it again as adult and was straight up appalled

Right? I read them in high school and remember them fondly. Not sure if I should read them again and set myself straight or just live with my delusions, lol.

Live with the delusion. I finished the chapter with the trial, stopped there and rethought my opinions on burning books. Lol

The xanth series was also written over 40+ yrs ago. That doesnt give it a pass but it was most people of that generation intro to fantasy. As s kid the world seems interesting and complex. As an adult, all you need to see is that his world map is Florida lol.

I think (mind you I’ve been too scared to reread and find out) that Robert Asprin has aged better as a less serious fantasy/sf author

Tbh this happened to me with Eragon. I loved the series as a kid, tried to reread it recently and while it's nowhere near as appalling as the xanth books, it's still very obvious it's written by a 16 year old boy. The descriptions of women vs men make my eyes see my brain.
