Well, thanks for watching my live stream yesterday and hoped you've enjoyed my SMT:Nocturne videos!

As a few people have stated already, there is no good or evil ending to a SMT game. Good and Evil are based solely on how one's personal belief affects their views. The usual choices are Law, Chaos, and Neutral. This game didn't have that. It was based solely on Reason. You needed a Reason to make a new world. Your views were reflected by that Reason. The True Demon Ending, is the Demi-Fiends understanding and disagreement with every Reason. Demi-Fiend believed that everyone was wrong and that the world didn't deserve to be recreated by anyone. So he took the power Lucifer gave him and destroyed the possibility of anyone making a specific Reason. However, in doing so, he willingly accepted that he is considered a full demon now. No matter what he does the "Great Will" will never forgive his actions. Thus, Lucifer tells him that we can defeat the "Great Will" together. Honestly, if given the choice, I'm sure the Demi-Fiend could destroy Lucifer and the "Great Will" altogether. Now the big thing people seem to dislike about the Law, Chaos thing. It is not based on any one religious standpoint. It is based on the Lawful Heavens, who try to coerce humanity into following their ways and believing in God. This God is not a God from any religion. Especially if your God loves Humanity. Cause the SMT God is a complete douche. Total dick. Lucifer is Lucifer. Not much to be said. He controls the Chaos part of the series usually and is more based on Freedom rather than evil intentions. He believes Humanity should be "free" where his version of freedom is Anarchy amongst humans and demons where the strongest survive. Then you get Neutral. Neutral is basically "Wow, both of these options suck, I think Ill stop both of them." In this you destroy the Lawful sides' plans and the Chaos sides' plans and make a world where humanity is driven by the actual free will and thoughts of humans themselves, bound to no one. This game is by no means trying to mock the ideas of religious belief, but rather take a spin of different religious myths meshed into one giant war between a very Strict Heaven, and a very Anarachist Netherworld.

***** The Netherworld is not anarchist, at least, that is not Lucifer's goal. Anarchy is the absence of power, however, Lucifer rules the Netherworld. Even at the end of SMTIV, in the chaos route, Lucifer asks if the MC will rule the humans. I think that the objective of Chaos is to build a world in wich demons et human will create their own order, with their own freedom, even if many dies in the process. And of course, the strongest rules.

+TrxPsyche it may follow some kind of gnostic version of christianity. in there, the flawed creation, Logos or Sophia (depending from version i think) created the universe and the illusionary/holographic world of earth, then accidentaly emanated the archons (angels and demons) who, corrupted and flawed as well had dark thoughts and desires, and made humans in the image of their creators to use them as slaves. the chief archon, Demiurge/Anu has no ability to create. he wasn't able to breathe life into humans without Sophia's assistance. the fallen earth is a system to extract spirit energy (magatsuhi) from humans. within that system of duality people are supposed to be enslaved through reincarnation with no heaven nor eternal rest, just constant rebirths and suffering while their energy is being drained, but Jesus's arrival and death threw a wrench into that. after leaving his teachings, dying, resurrecting and finally leaving the material world he frees Sophia and takes her out of the world which took the power of creation permanently away from the archons, only leaving them with what already existed to reshape. these teachings were supposed to allow those who seeked the truth to escape from this hell and rejoin the original creator, the pre-existing Source, his true Father and the creator of all existence. according to that one practically every deity, angel, god and such is an archon/annunaki, YHWH and Metatron included, which would explain Torah's YHWH's human-like behavior, jealousy, committing sins he abhors like envy or wrath, occasional cruelty, desire to control people through fear and constant sacrifices (and also his dimnished power after the first chapter of genesis, which gave a clue that it spoke of another being, not the creator of the universe). so while smt doesn't fully follow it, it uses a bunch of its ideas. the Great Will seems to be Demiurge of the gnostic view. a supreme archonic ruler who was left behind, but one who only governs and is unable to create. YHWH is one of the archons, possibly an emanation of Demiurge, or one of his generals. he is likely Enlil, the sumerian version of bible's YHWH. a cruel, jealous and controlling being who made humans to be slaves. he can't create either, just use what already exists, so the worlds are stuck in an eternal loop of decay and everything functions on death and recycling, under his eye. every vortex world is probably like that, except history unfolds differently in each one. that's probably why when the light of creation, kagutsuchi is extinguished, all ability to create vanishes, and the end is near. if Great Will was able to create on his own, he'd recreate the light, but destruction of it seems to put an end to the cycle which suggests he's not a creator, just an user, one who was left with a bit of the light, which he loses in the end. lucifer is a mistranslation of heylel, which is something like "illuminated one" or "shining one", and the passage was speaking of one of the first "antichrists", a babylonian king nimrod/gilgamesh, who saw himself as reincarnation of the sun and rebelled against god(s), and who may have been guided by another archon/angel. his role comes from the orthodox bible's fallen angel, but also sumerian Enki, brother of Enlil (YHWH), emanation/son of Anu (Demiurge/"God") who was the one to give humans the fruit of knowledge of good and evil, which opened their eyes and made them realize they're slaves and changed their disposition towards the annunaki/elohim/archons.

+TrxPsyche Another way to look at it is three flavors of Law (Reason endings, God gets the universe reroll that he wanted), one Neutral (Freedom - I want the stalemate to continue and for humanity to remain as it is for a while longer), one Chaos (True Demon - Lucifer screws up the Great Will's plans for good and gets his final war) and an i-screwed-up ending (Demon - you're too much of a lowly worm for Kagutsuchi to bother with you at all, now everybody has to sit around with their thumbs up their butts for a while so this catastrophe can get sorted out)

Just finished this on hard, in all honesty, the hardest boss in this game is not Lucifer, nor Kagutsuchi, it's the Puzzle Boy game and Bishamon who I found the hardest, mainly due to Puzzle Boy being a genuine test of brains while Bishamon is actually a reactive/adaptive boss, just like Demifiend in DDS. If Lucifer only spammed Dekundas and Dekajas he might have actually been hard.

Man, if I didnt play this game on an emulator, I would have never finished the manequin kid puzzles. I didnt knew that all the game resets if you leave, I tought I could continue in stage 8 if I left after solving up to 8. The thing is that I have biological functions that need to attend like sleeping eating and most of the weeks even bathing, so I had the choice to save the game half ways. If I didnt had this I would have left it.

Now that is definitely an ambiguous topic. But there are so many different interpretations of "God" in this series, we may never know. In SMT2 you fought YHVH, a despotal tyrant. In SMT Nocturne you broke the cycle of destruction and creation, hence plunging the universe into darkness. In Digital Devil Saga you defeated and soothed "God" from destroying the world. And with so many unanswered questions and plot holes, there's really no way we can say who or what the Great Will truly is.

I mean, this is rather appropriate...His friends turned on him, his home lost and by embracing the demon inside him, Hito Shura became the most powerfull demon ever...Awesome and epic...And I just love how Hito Shura looks so badass in the end...

In a weird way I think both neutral and true demon are canon because time is fucked. The human side of demi fiend got his freedom in the neutral ending yet he came back locked in by fate as the hero of Strange Journey. While his demon side went to fight YHWH. It's kinda why Lucifer seems to know who you are from the get go in Strange Journey

Consider the idea of freedom, and what that means. In each ending you are strung along by someone else, even True Demon you are taken in by Lucifer. Freedom allows the character to get what HE wants. This is freedom. Fate doesn't get destroyed by killing one Kagutsuchi, even when god is killed he is reborn like in SMT 2.

You are still cursed if you choose the "Freedom" ending, so there is no freedom for the Demi-Fiend. Only for humanity. Pretty sucky trade off for him. He gives up his demon body, so he can become God's play thing in death, and humans continue to rape, pillage and destroy. Yeah, Freedom is the best ending out there!

Actually Strange Journey alludes to him as being in a weakend state, YHWH that is. I think it's belief that keeps him alive, I think that's what is stated in SMT 2, so if belief of him were wiped out he could be killed.

I don't get the symbolism of Lucifer's aid in both his forms which that I understand as a crude version of being the alpha and omega (young and old). I guess maybe the figure is meant to represent Lucifer's need for YHVH since he can't be the devil without god. I guess. Maybe I'm reading too far into it or not far enough?

Dude the messiah version of the demi fiend is camperable to Stephen who sees YHVH as a mere video game (which implies that Stephen is infinitely more powerful than YHVH) And noucturn demi fiend >>>messiah demi fiend. Since messiah demi fiend didn't unlock his true demon form. You can tell by his eyes. They were yellow. While end game noucturn demi fiend's eyes are red. TDE noucturn demi fiend at full power should be able to give stephen the same amount of difficulty aleph, nanashi, Flynn, smt 1 hero and messiah demi fiend gave him IF not higher.

I heard SMT Nocturne originally was the first game of a new spin-off which demi-fiend against the god. However, The selling of Nocturne didn't achieve Atlus ' expectation, So they never make Nocturne sequel. (Sorry for my grammar)

they couldn't make an actual squeal due to the events of devil summoner 2 and the Japanese remake of nocturne. those two games make it so the whole time line in which nocturne took place in never happened.

@@cathedral1375 Devil Summoner follows SMT if... so I doubt it's really part of the same multiverse as the first 3 games, I believe SMT if... follows an alternative timeline to SMT 1 in which the ICBM never occured and the rules of the first SMT don't really apply to it. Lucifer alluded to SMT 3's TDE being canon by saying that "YHVH is in pieces" possibly implying that Demi-fiend had a hand in defeating the many avatars of the Great Will following the command of Lucifer himself as shown in this ending. He might be going through the same thing Aleph (now Hijiri) is going through (i.e the endless loop of reincarnation and death) as stated by Lucifer.

Well then, better fix that. SJ is worth it, as well as both Devil Survivor games; I recommend getting both D. Survivor games (if you can, get the 3DS version of the first Devil Survivor, it's better in every way). It's your call.

Pelo que dá a entender pelo que Lucifer diz e pelo que aparece no SMT Imagine (O MMO), o Demi-Fiend se tornou o mais poderoso general de Lucifer (Talvez mais forte até do que o próprio Anjo Caído). Mas de fato, ele é como um Deus para o caos, um messias demoniaco. A Guerra na verdade seria contra a Great Will/Axioma, entidade ainda mais poderosa que o YHVH. Mas sim, concordo com você é uma das melhores histórias de videogame mesmo. Raro encontrar alguém que goste de SMT e é BR. Audshasuhd!

Acho que não... tem muito roteiro de qualidade aí, apesar de eu adorar SMT por ser mais diferente que seus primos RPGs que comumentemente tem raízes mais Tolkienianas do que Lovecraftianas, em questão de qualidade de roteiro ele não consegue segurar a vela pra títulos como Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate, Xenogears, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger etc. Não to dizendo que é ruim... só que ela é cheia de tropos e no geral é bem simples.

After over 100 hours of game play, obtaining pierce for three party members, and obtaining lvl 99 for five characters, this ending is weak. This is my first SMT game and I had a hard time understanding it. Is Demi-fiend really evil? I feel as if he is more Musabi throughout the entire game, as he is caught in the middle of all ideas and going through the game not knowing what he is truly fighting for. Had he known the man in the wheelchair / young boy was Satan, would be have joined his ranks? I come from the Final Fantasy world; where, if you have a certain completion rating you get a better ending (like FFX-2). I did the Kalpas not really to get the True-demon ending; I wanted to get Metatron, Pierce, etc. and make the final battle a breeze. I don't really understand the movitation of Demi-fiend because he doesn't talk that much, nor does he openly express his views during much of the game. When he does, it's a Yes or No choice by the gamer. Why did this SMT game link the "True-Demon" ending with the Kalpas. I wanted Pierce, Metatron, and Beezlebub, but not the ending honest in all honesty...

The DemiFiend isn't evil. Honestly, there is no "evil" in SMT, only opposing ideologies. He knew that the old man was Lucifer. Hell, Beelzebub told him so. He knew damn well what he was doing. Honestly, if you look into his back story, Demi's "friends" only wanted to use him for a large part of his life. The demons were actually nicer to him than they were (shocker, I know). As for his motivation, I like to think of it as this: if you get any other ending, nothing changes. The cycle of death and rebirth keeps going. In the TDE, he makes a change.
