the problem with jg creeps is that they have no natural resistances right. part of the reason upgrading helm of the dominator is good is because the ancient creeps come with 50% base magic resistances...compared to the 0% from regular jg creeps.

They had Lina, AA, and Storm all high Magic damage heroes. Sand Kind also does some Magical damage. The Magic Resist is 100% better here.

It always bothers me when I see a Tiny player not constantly carrying a tree... It's cheap in mana and even at lvl 1 the splash damage from the throw is significant for harassment (if you throw it at a creep standing next to a hero) and plus you can throw it for a little extra vision.
