I still find it really dumb on Dumbledores part when you consider that some kids were sitting their exams that year and had an incompetent teacher lol. He’s literally risking students professional futures so he try and teach a lesson in morales and decency

I'm not sure if it was ever said that this was his reasoning... I guess it might be something Rowling said later... It certainly seems that Dumbledore had some idea of what Gilderoy had been doing though, I suppose... At least in terms of him being good with memory charms (I believe he does make a comment about Gilderoy being hoisted upon his own petard or something, after his memory charm backfires)... Either way, Dumbledore also had very limited options for that position, given that most people with any sense were avoiding it... Teachers in that position tend not to do very well... Yes, he manages to convince some more competent people later, but I expect it was not easy for Dumbledore to initially convince them to take on the role... I suspect the lack of good candidates was a large factor as well...

@@KitsyX Yeah. There are only about 7000 magical people in all of the UK, including the children. So there's not a big talent pool to choose from. Gilderoy Lockhart may have been the only one to apply for the job.

@@rafalka1810 That's my point. Only 7000 magical people in the British Isles, which means about 5000 adults. At least 95% of those already have jobs or otherwise have enough money. Of the remaining 250, how many have any teaching qualifications at all? And subject matter expertise? Maybe 50 if you're really, really lucky. Out of those, how many would actually want the job, or even grudgingly accept it? And no, I don't think everyone knows about the curse on the position. If they did, Lockhart would never have taken it. The wizarding world really sucks at the dissemination of accurate information. Notice how nobody knew that Lockhart was a fraud until these events.

About Salazar- (no spoilers) some don’t realize there is more to him than meets the eye! The histories go far back to when people were being murdered & other crazy things between muggles & the wizard kind. He was actually desiring to create this place to not just be a place of learning & curating knowledge but also a fortress against intruders! It’s a longer history that goes into several articles & channels showing this. This was to protect the children and all of wizard kind.(think witchhunts and “trials” and so forth SOME of the halfbloods long ago were used as pawns and essentially moles into the wizarding communities. Even back than sure not all hit it’s the ROOT of the judgment upon halfbloods & Muggleborns. Those like Lucius are practicing a tradition that was once noble that had stronger roots & traditions. It’s so far from that now that most families have fallen into mania. But not his wife. His wife is very cool & is only protecting Malfoy and teach him the ways of that realm and how to act and behave etc etc. He’s more like his mother & loves his mother! she grew up in the Black family tree & her original tree was related to Ravenclaws and had to change their name to something else to keep the line alive. Also. The basilisk was for that reason alone. To defend against intruders & infiltration; perhaps even to weed out LEGIT moles who were bringing danger to wizardkind. Salazar also was the only one to match Rowena Ravenclaw’s mind and originally they were to be betrothed. But ended up with Godric! ❤️

In the book, they did Harry so dirty. They made him do a ton of chores until just before the masons arrived and for his supper he got a cheese sandwich and he had a brush to eat that they were arriving any second.

Not sure if you guys are watching the extended version of the chamber of secrets, but if you are, and you saw Lucius Malfoy strike Draco’s hand with a cane, Jason Isaacs, who plays Lucius Malfoy accidentally hit Tom Felton’s hand. Afterwards Jason Isaac’s, apologize to Tom Felton, with tears in his eyes Tom Felton said no it’s OK. It was for the scene.

It’s one reason Draco comes across more sympathetic in the movies. In the book is dad isn’t really that harsh or violent towards his son. He even tells Draco that talking crap about Harry Potter isn’t wise because it begs the question of why he hates him if his families allegiance isn’t to voldermort.

Hi there! I'm really enoying your channel! I think you two are a great couple and I'm loving the Harry Potter reactions. I just finished watching this one, and as a Potter fan of both the books and the films, I just wanted to expand on a couple of things you were saying during your closing. Dobby was acting on his own accord when warning Harry. Because he was never ordered NOT to warn him, he was able to do so WITHOUT being considered disobedient. Also, Harry put the sock in the diary unbeknownst to both Lucius and Dobby. Harry gives the diary to Malfoy, and Malfoy hands it to Dobby, thereby the master unknowingly frees his house elf because he, himself, handed him the book. It doesn't matter whose clothing was inside. I hope that makes sense. This was such a great film, but I can't wait for you to get to the next one. I think it might become your favorite of the first three! I will say without ANY spoilers that it moves fairly quickly, so you really have to follow it! Enjoy!!!

Ron’s fear of spiders come from when his twin brothers turned his teddy bear into a large spider when he was younger and traumatized him…. All because Ron accidentally broke a toy broomstick… Dumbledore hired Gilderoy as a prank upon hogwarts but also he knew that the essence of the students & how hogwarts history of hijynx as a whole; Gilderoy wouldn’t last and his facade would break so he expose gilderoy and pranked the school at the same time ! Dumbledore is ahead of the game it seems doesn’t it? One more thing he was the o oh one applying for the job anyway but my bets and research on the fact he was clever enough to have many reasons to hire Lockheart! Or is it Lochhart? Lol. Curious to hear your thoughts!

So, Dobby wasn't told to do anything, Lucius didn't know anything about what he was doing. That diary belonged to Voldemort, Lucius was afraid of getting caught with it so he hid it in Ginny's cauldron.

The thing about the Harry Potter books is that the author, JK Rowling originally wrote the series for adults. It was the book publishers that decided to advertise it as children's books. If you read between the lines of the story you will see it is a satire. First, one has to understand that you the reader are looking at the story through Harry Potter's point of view as he grows up throughout the years at Hogwarts. In the first book and movie Harry is 11 years old so you see his world from his 11 year old mindset and maturity. But as he grows up and begins to understand things more and more the story gets darker and less innocent as he matures with age. It's a coming of age story. The reason I call the books a satire is that many of the stories deals with racism of a different kind and political corruption. Dobby might be a house elf but nevertheless he is a slave just the same. There might not be any racism in the wizarding world against people of color but there is racism against wizards who do not come from pure magical families. Harry doesn't see the horrible similarities between the wizarding world and the muggle world at this point because he is only 12 years old during The Chamber of Secrets. To a certain extent he is still an innocent little boy and is not mature enough to comprehend it all to the fullest extent. 🏰🧙‍♂️🧙🏻‍♀️🧒🪄⚡️📚📽🎞🖤

I was only 12 years old when I got my hands on harry potter philosopher's stone book in 1997. the books were aimed on 11,12,13 year old boys, my age, and we, the first Harry Potter generation are 40 years old now.

Also, every time I hear Hermione say "She's a little sensitive" to describe Moaning Myrtle, I always have the same first thought: A LITTLE sensitive?"

A lot of details and scenes were cut out to turn the story into a movie. Everything Dobby did was to get Harry in trouble enough to have him expelled or injured enough to then get sent home away from Hogwarts. Lucius did not tell Dobby anything, but Dobby probably overheard all of Lucius's plans to sneak Riddle's diary back into Hogwarts. He was holding onto the diary for his master Voldemort. It was also very convenient that Lucius ran into the Weasley's at the bookstore. That's when he slipped Riddle's diary into Ginny's cauldron, and no one else noticed at first. Ginny thought the diary was part of her school supplies and started using it. Lucius was hoping someone would open the Chamber, the basilisk would attack students and Dumbledore the headmaster would have to step down and be replaced. (Also, Lucius told his son that Dumbledore's the worst thing that happened to Hogwarts.) That's why Dobby wanted to warn Harry of the attacks. Then Dobby went overboard with his ways of sending Harry home. Great reaction as always.

It's the next movie that they start getting dark. The reason Harry is so reluctant to confide in Dembeldore or any adult for that matter is because up until going to Hogwarts, he's never had a reason to trust any adult. His aunt/uncle/cousin are terrible people who treated Harry so poorly, it's no wonder Harry has serious trust issues.

Draco Malfoy is probably the second best student after Hermione. He tries hard to impress his father and be the best, because Lucius wants him like that. Lot of hate towards muggles comes from his father and Draco adopted it, because Hermione is from a muggle family and she always bests him in school. But his reasons for muggle hate seem to be more personal, Lucius is just a self righteous nobleman and "pure blood" lover.

Funny BTS about the ending scene with Mr Malfoy, Dobby, and Harry. The actor playing Mr Malfoy didn't know any spells so he asked ( either a p.a. or a cameraman) and they only knew "Avada Cadavra". That is why it seems he is trying to kill Harry. 🤦‍♂️🤷😅

Yeah McGonagall is a big ol softy, she pretends to be stern and stiff but she has a soft spot for harry. Used her own money to buy him a several hundred gold galleon broom in his first year, not expelling him in this one. Then all the other things she's done for him.
