Slafkovsky’s selection should have only been different to be LOGAN COOLEY instead NOTTTTT Shanw Wright like MOST FANS wanted it to be. So no. I don’t blame them for that. And I most certainly don’t give it to the fans over the management , cause fans wanted WRIGHT, NOT Cooley. But yeah, passing on Michkov IS !!!! The worst mistake in Franchise History. Worse than Wickenheiser over Savard.

If Michkov was the best choice after Bedard, why does Anaheim, Colombus, San Jose & Arizona have ignored him?? So I don't think it is fair to say that Hughes was scared to pick him.
@bestmonkna7720
@bestmonkna7720 11 ай бұрын
Michkov wants to play in a big hockey market meaning the only realistic places were Chicago, Montreal, Philly, Washington arguably, and Detroit. You can't pick anyone but Bedard with the 1st overall. Ignoring that, Anaheim Columbus and San Jose have all been in the rebuild for a long time and this doesn't fit the timeline for them (despite most players taking 2-3 years anyway), Jarmo might not survive another bad year in Columbus for example. If you're asking why Arizona went completely off board, well, Arizona isn't a real team. They haven't done anything that's made sense.

because Fantilli, Carlsson and Smith were consensus top 4, pretty much guaranteed successful NHLers. Now I'm not gonna comfort myself with our selection because the coyotes didn't pick him. This is just the yotes doing yotes things ; they don't know what they're doing. Wonder why it's been a decade they didn't make it to the playoffs except during the covid playoff format?

We don't know Michkov's at being a team player, also, does he have an attitude problem or primadonna because he knows of his skills? Can he play a two way game? Also in 3 years, what will he decide? All points to the unknown and I'm not taking his skills for granted, the same can be said for Nail Yakopov, highly talked about his skills, but where is he now? Mtl has alot of prospects of forwards that need to prove themselves, give them a chance.

As a Toronto Raptors fan, I saw and predicted the same reactions from fans, and dumb media. It was a very deep NBA draft. Victor and Scoot, being sure fire franchise players. Then very solid blue chip picks up to 10/11. After that it still was a great draft but a lot more risk. Toronto drafted at 13th, just inches away from the sure thing. They made a very good pick, in Gradey, many had him ranked around the 6th spot. Gradey was the best 3 point shooter in the draft, and has the potential to be an all star, but not superstar. The Raptors greatest need was 3 point shooting. They made a great pick, however many fans were upset, wanting the Raps to draft the 6th best point guard in the draft. Clearly fans overrated some prospects. The worst spot to pick in a draft, is the early drop off spot. The NHL draft was very clear from 1 to 4, after that there was a big drop off. The 5th best forward was not close to the 4th best forward. Montreal was smart, and drafted the best defense prospect, who will be a blue chip talent. The Canadiens made the right pick. So many Habs fans are dumb, they cried about the Habs not selecting Michkov, yet they never even saw him play. Don't forget those are the same fans who cried when Montreal did not draft slow footed, mediocre Wright, with the first pick last season. Wright's biggest/only strength was supposed his defensive play. Wright is already a bust. He was terrible in the minors, too slow, and his defensive play was frankly poor. Montreal fans are no longer the smart Habs fans that I grew up with, who understood what it takes to win. Our youth has not learned about winning, and now sound like casual Toronto fans, and delusional 8 year old kids. One of the biggest most important things, scouts look for in a player is character. Every draft there are many talented players like Drouin, who have poor character and will bust. Good scouts have learned how to predict the busts, and loser organizations keep drafting low character players, just like the Habs did when they kept drafting soft French players. For those who yap about gambling; I suggest you go to the track, or Casino, and look at all the losers there who gamble away their rent and food money, every week, and end up begging on the streets. And then repeating the cycle every pay check. In a draft, there is always a certain element that is a gamble, but good teams only make gambles that have a decent chance of paying off. Loser organizations, chase the long shots, and always lose. Drafting Russian players is generally a bigger risk. Talented Russian players, seem to bust more often than any other country. There are some Russians that have been scouted, and were drafted high because of their good character, like Ovechkin. However scouts tend to avoid Russian's with bad character, because so many have failed in the NHL. Generally speaking drafting Russians is highly unpredictable. The next red flag, is Mickov's size. He is very tiny for the NHL, and also soft. A concern for any team, but especially the Habs, who's 3 best offensive players are small, under 6 feet. Tony that hack you call a former scout excused Michkov's character, saying he is only 18 years old. Perhaps that is why he is a former scout, lol. The problem is very big, not just an age thing. Michkov, was literally hated by his teammates, his attitude is selfish, narcissistic, and toxic. When he went to the national team, only for a short period of time, he was just as hated, and toxic by his new teammates. And that is just the off the ice issue. He is soft, selfish, and lazy, with a very poor work ethic. Not the type of personality that any winning org. wants to draft. A smart woman will leave an abusive relationship. A dumb woman will stay in that relationship, thinking she can change him. It is the same thing with scouts. Smart scouts understand to never get into toxic relationships. Dumb scouts think they can change a persons character. Why waste 3 years, and a blue chip prospect, for nothing. And Michkov will never be a 50 goal scorer in the NHL, most scouts were smart enough to read the writing on the wall, which says "bust". And smart managers never will bring toxic people into their organizations. Tony, I own the largest Toronto Raptor Facebook group. I have many friends in the NBA media. Many of my friends are connected to current scouts, coaches, etc, from the NBA, colleges, etc ... I receive lots of NBA intel from these sources. Especially this year, my friends often discussed the draft, and their intel from current scouts from many different teams. Other than a couple of incompetent organizations like the Hornets; Scouting has really improved from the old days. So much analytics are used, that the public is not privy to, scouts watch every game, often over and over again to study the players they are interested in drafting. Your "former" scouts are out of the loup, have not studied the analytics, and seem to of only watched a few games, involving the players discussed. Some may of been some form of scout at one time, but now their opinions, are more in line with an everyday fan, rather than a current scout who has followed players with much more intel, and depth.

It's very simple....The team that scores more goals then the other team, wins.. Scoring goals is not easy, so if your team does not have many natural goal scorers, then they have no choice but to limit other teams' goal scoring.. If your team can only score 2 or 3 goals a game, then to win 60 games in a season, they are going to have to succeed in keeping opposong teams to only 2 goals or 1 goal per game...This is very difficult to do also but it also requires your team to play boring defensive hockey, which is not very entertaining.. Habs fans want an entertaining team!! Not a defensive one... They should have drafted Michkov...

I just started watching but I already disagree with the premise that Michkov will be a 50-goal guy. How many 50 goal scorers are there in the present game? Michkov will get his goals, I think, but to equate him with Tkachuk and even Ovechkin seems premature!
@vinceslapchopper

Yeah 50 goals is a lot even in today's NHL. Kaprizov is 26 years old with 5 seasons of KHL and 3 in the NHL and he hasn't cracked 50 goals yet. And the Flyers will still be bad even when Michkov comes after his contract in Russia ends. He is not scoring 50 goals a season anytime soon imo.

Skipping on Michkov only seems like a mistake if you aren't in to the Habs re-build plan. They are clearly trying to build a team-first culture. Obviously they want to get the most talented players they can just like everyone else but not if it means having selfish players that don't always feel like playing. Some are saying Michkov can be like that. Then they say "So what, he's only 18 - he'll grow out of it". Maybe. Maybe not. Aside from the fact that the current political situation is uncertain, as McCagg said the other day, the Habs (and now the Flyers) have no access to him in Russia. There's no opportunity to influence his emotional development so that he grows into a 200ft team-first player and not an "Amazing One Game and Disappears For the Next Three" player that you can't win with. The young Habs players here are surrounded with mentors that have "been there, done that". I suspect that if Michkov was in the CHL the Habs would have scooped him. They went with Big Picture thinking and took another excellent player.

"selfish players that don't always feel like playing. Some are saying Michkov can be like that." That's absolute nonsense. Anyone who has played or worked him and willing to go on record has said his obsession with winning is what caused friction in the locker room. That he, as a 17/18 year old, chewed out the shitty team he got lent out to because they were okay with losing. The complete opposite of "don't always feel like playing". "have no access to him in Russia. There's no opportunity to influence his emotional development" Also complete nonsense. There is absolutely nothing that hinders you from hiring as many people as you want to work with him. Hell, it's probably easier than doing it with a Canadian/American/Austrian/etc. player because Russian is poorer so it's super cheap to hire people to work with him.

I understand being disappointed and left perplexed about not drafting Michkov. Anyone following the team for more than a decade is dying for an offensive super star. Thing is, experts from teams that can’t afford to make draft mistakes passed on him. That’s not insignificant. Plus, who drafted him? A newbie GM looking to score big. Also, not insignificant. Deep breaths Habs fans. Snake Boisvert is entertaining and insightful but he doesn’t know everything.
