I guess YT decided since I watch this channel I also wanted to watch Snake Discovery - so I've been watching them too, and saw Emily's videos on genetics and thought I had a semi-handle on it from that. But I barely understood anything in this one, so I guess hognose genetics are different enough to ball pythons that I couldn't follow it easily! And I agree, although his family and friends are doing a great job with the vlog, his personality is sorely lacking and missed.

Personally I HATE vlog channels.. but Brian makes the definition "Vlog" so much different from so many other channels. I'm absolutely hooked on ALL OF BRIANS CONTENT. I never seemed to be bored of watching and wanting to just learn more about snakes, but also other reptiles as well. Finally, I'm also from Michigan, originally born and raised in Grand Rapids. I'm now living near Big Rapids and knowing that Brian is a little over an hour away (if you drive the speed limit 😂). It's crazy to think that someone near me is a successful breeder, animal lover, on top of everything he is very very kind to his viewers and strives for positivity every single day. I can't think Brian and BHB Reptiles as a whole to really help myself with life. I'm constantly on the search to learn more about animals. I can't think this channel enough for what you guys do.. FROM JUST BEHIND A SCREEN. Massive shout-out to this community that just continues to grow. I hope everyone has an amazing day and cmon.. Brian and his team need a hypeman.. or hype army....

Is the breeding of Spiders ethical? I know that some exhibit more or less severe 'wobble' symptoms. Is that something that is being bred out? I am more of a lizard person than a snake person, so I am not very knowledgeable.
@cucumberhoney62433 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s ethical. I agree with the people that say it’s like breeding blind dogs because it’s funny to watch them bump into things. This does actually kind of happen when people breed bull dogs and pugs though. The severity varies with the snake and it can be almost unnoticeable but there’s like, how do I say it? If you breed two that barely wobble you will still get severe wobbles from the clutch; it’s kind of random as far as I know
@clownworld46552 жыл бұрын
Way late to the party here, but breeding two spiders together to make a super spider is a big taboo because you’re going to get a bunch of messed up hathlings with horrific neurological problems. That’s why you don’t see super spiders for sale. There is nothing wrong with breeding normal spiders (the neurological problems with normal spiders are extremely rare) as long as you don’t breed two together

I actually like that a lot too where you let Lori and then the other people in your team have a chance with the camera and explain what they're doing with their job. that's really cool as well! I like that you change it up every day. you know everyday it's something different. I think that if it was everyday the same thing it would get quite boring not just for us but for you to have to do the same things everyday so I really appreciate that everyday it's something different.

Idiotsinthewild ! I would recommend watching Brian's suggestion videos on good starter snakes. If you are young I don't suggest Ball Pythons since they aren't as simple as people like to suggest if you are aiming for a long life. I worked in mammalian genetics for 14 years as a micro surgeon (IVF, etc) and breeding lab mice with knockouts and targeted mutations for the largest facility the nation. I thoroughly understood the nomenclature but I have to say I am a little confused with the "lingo" when it comes to these ball python genetics. I wish someone would explain it in terms of punnet squares to break it down even further and use actual technical genetic terminology such as dominant/recessive, phenotype/genotype, wild type/control, heterozygosity/carrier, homozygosity, backcrossing/congenics, etc. Is homozygous denoted as "Super"? Is "lesser" another word for recessive? This video was very informative, though a little fast (I had to keep pausing to absorb the sentence lol), but not quite the complete breakdown I was looking for, yet closer than anything else I've found...

Not trying to hate but I just watched a couple of videos where people said things about the spider ball python morph. They said that there is a head wobble and it can get really bad, also that when you flip them upside down they take a long time to flip over again when any other ball python would almost immediately flip back over. Those are both very bad and I and those people believe all ball python breeders should stop breeding spider ball pythons. I would appreciate it if you would go over this issue in a video, and I understand that they are very pretty and make a lot of money. I also understand that you care a lot about the snakes (hopefully more than you do the money) and maybe stop making them all together or at inform other breeders of this issue. And inform non-breeders about the issues and the severity of the issues.

I think my favorite ball python gene will always be axanthic. Just something beautiful about silver grey snakes with bold black patterning. First fell in love with it when I saw my first lightning pied (axanthic pied) ball python. Unfortunately they are out of my price range. But a year later when I saw the most GORGEOUS single gene axanthic ball python at a local reptile show, it got me thinking about producing my own axanthic pied ball python. Of course since I'd be starting with a single gene snake, I'm playing the long game. Even if I found a male carrying both the pied and axanthic. Either a double het male that looks normal, a pied het axanthic, or an axanthic het pied, I would have to hold back a few of the babies, and either breed back one of the females to the dad, or buy another snake with both genes and breed them together, and then MAYBE one of the eggs will hatch out visually the double recessive axanthic pied. So best case scenario, 6 yrs. But realistically I'm thinking 8 or 9.

It's like you read my mind with this vlog. I don't own a snake, and I often don't understand a word of what you say......I just enjoy seeing the cute baby snakes and geckos 😂.

Man you are awesome. I love that you take the time to try and explain to people and help them to understand the basics of genetics. Youve been a life saver. I have watched several of your videos. Keep it up and thank you again for the help. :)
