Anaconda used a blend of animatronics and CGI. CGI can pull off certain stunts that the animatronic snake couldn't. Jurassic Park and Terminator lived by the same rules. CGI isn't all bad, but when it becomes the main source of effects in a movie, it's not impressive at all. You have to make the threat believable before we can get scared of it. I would love to see how they pulled off Jon Voight getting swallowed alive and then spit back out.

this animatronic snake was in anaconda 1. the first movie starts with NO CGI OT SCI FI. its a film with a animatronic snake, the anaconda.

The first Anaconda did have CGI because as amazing as animatronics are, they couldn't replicate the fast slithering of snakes, or the complete swallowing of a human or regurgitation. Animatronics were used for close-ups and actors reactions, my favorite being the night capture with Sarone reeling in that first male Anaconda.
