The story goes that, Kojima hadn't even been considering a sequel to Metal Gear until one day he bumped into a member of the Snake's Revenge team on the train and learned of its development. It was said member's urging that Kojima should make a true sequel himself that prompted him to begin working on Metal Gear 2. For a long time, Snake's Revenge has had a bad rap for being far removed from the core principles and storyline of Metal Gear as a whole, but you can at least say that without it the rest of the series may have never even existed to begin with. 😅

That almost sounds like a butterfly effect. Imagine if he didn’t meet the developer on the train.

The reason why punching is an option, is that enemies sometimes drop ammo or rations. They never do when killed with the knife.

@@orzen_the_orzo933 the jungle setting existed in the original metal gear storywise as well as mg2 I can’t think of any real “inspirations” either The box gun don’t count as it was more of a coincidence since peace walker was targeted to a co-op playstyle The codec in SR being large screen with prewritten selectable codec frequencies likely came from some parts of snatcher and the nes version which itself was developed when snatcher was developed the big supercomputer in the nes version always gave me mk2 vibes and gillians hideout with his pc not to mention the snatchers itself being “unmanned”

When you stab enemies with the knife they simply die, but if you take them out barehanded they sometimes drop ammo or rations after the melee which helps you survive until you can find the next stock room. Also when you collect items in stock rooms if you walk out then immediately come back in you will find more of the same item an infinite amount of times. It's an excellent way to ensure you're maxed out on whatever it is you need especially the important critical ones like ammo and rations. Those guards that refuse to speak in certain rooms, if you interrogate them with the Truth Serum equipped they will not only give vital information but it also contributes to your experience similar to rescuing hostages which helps you rank up faster. This game hits different when you know how to play. 😎

An underrated game, you have to compare it to the port of Metal Gear on the NES to really appreciate it. But even so Snakes Revenge is actually not that bad of a game, nor is it that hard. Once you figure out how the bosses can be beaten they’re quite easy. Also the instruction manual gave you plenty of information on all the items and how to use them. There are some issues with it, like the first stage in the jungle where you have to dodge the spotlights. The Key card swapping, disappearing floors and the side scrolling levels were also a pain in the neck. Other than that though, I liked the variety of locations, weapons and items. The music was great, graphically it looked polished, snake controlled well enough and the story I actually enjoyed. The final level really got my heart pumping and that end music was also very effective. For NES standards it’s an 8/10 for me

Yes, YES IT IS!!! If you need any reason to understand the absolute hate and frustration I have personally experienced with this Game, let me sum it up in three points... 1. The absolutely unforging difficulty of that tank battle on the bridge. If you haven't seen it, try watching a playthrough of that fight alone, and beating it without feeling absolute frustration trying to beat the tank legitimately. 2. The final boss is so unnecessarily difficult. Nothing like the tank battle, but just a pure test of timing and frustration, under a strict time limit, and the music of choice is just the intro for the game. 3. Considering that beating this game was the last thing I remember doing before passing out - I am NOT joking - due to a seizure from septic shock, brought on by a random cockroach bite. I wish I was joking. This is absolutely the one video game I hate with such an intensity that if I felt it made any diffiherence in the end, I would spend money to buy every last physical copy that still exists, and to absolutely destroy them in any way possible.

I always kinda enjoyed this one honestly, like, yeah it's a spin-off, but I feel we, in the future, love writing things off as that or going off about it being non-canon, but this is a sequel to the NES version of MG, and like, with that context, with how kinda shitty that port was, this is GREAT sequel and it improves in every single way AND has a killer soundtrack to boot. This and Portable Ops suffer from what I call ''fandom write offs'' where they write it off as bad due to not being canon when as a video game they're still pretty good. Oh and the reason punches can be sorta still useful is that with the knife enemies don't drop items? Or they're a lot less likely? So punching can be an ok way to farm, maybe? I read that somewhere once, but like, I just used the knife as well, why would i need to farm if I'm taking way less risks thus not taking a lot of damage or wasting resources? But i guess if you royally fuck up and had to farm, that's what the punch is for?
