My only issue with Metal Gear 1 is that Metal Gear 2 is basically a straight up improvement. Also I wouldn't sleep on Snake's Revenge, Ghost Babel and the Acid Games they might not be canon to the main timeline but they still are worth playing.

I've heard Ghost Babel is the best of the 2D Metal Gear games. Acid's story is bizarre in an entertaining way, or at least Acid 1 is.

Snakes revenge is pretty cool. Bad character sprite and god awful side scrolling parts aside. It’s definitely worth a play through.

15:28 Fun fact: that room with the unavoidable electric floor USED TO have a hidden wall switchboard you could destroy with a stinger missile in the original version of the game, same as all the others, but it was invisible. But in the HD Collection port of it, that invisible switchboard was removed.

And the stories and stuff. My best advice when you get to metalngear solid 1. Is skip 2 play 3 make sure its the version with fulll view controld and stuff based off the subsistance updated version that came out. 2 and anything after take as a silly what if. That is the best advice for the series in the best honesty. Peope that say play then all are sniffing some paint called misplaced hype. Mgs 1 and 3. Honestly 3 is just a side thing too but is way better placed tgan anything not metal gear solid 1. Which was meant to be standalone story

I've been watching your armored core videos after getting armored core 6. I like this channel. I subscribed. I intend to come back, however I would like to offer a word criticism. Your videos focus heavily on the functionality of each game. It feels like I'm watching a spec video for a new car purchase. I would love to see you jump into theme, character, story analysis a bit more. You are featuring old games. The people who are coming to watch these videos played these when they came out and want a nostalgia dose. We already know how they play. We want to feel like we are sharing the emotion of how they made us feel again.

Whenever I think of the keycards, I think it was intentionally designed to be that way because it creates that fumbling for keys moment. It's designed to increase tension. The older Thief games did it as well, where you could pick up numerous keys but without knowing which one specifically goes in which lock you have to run through them all the while a guard could spot you. It's a convenience and speed change in later games

You're playing both Ace Combat and Konami's Metal Gear. Sometime you'll need to play Konami's Ace Combat clone, Airforce Delta. Also good on you for starting with Metal Gear 1 instead of MGS like most people do.

I would love to see a proper remake of metal gear and solid snake using something like the fox engine. There's tons of room for more more story elements to retroactively integrate it better into the metal gear story. However after removing the padding, the original metal gear would be little more than a prelude to a much larger Solid Snake game.

15:31 actually there is a secret switch on the left side of the door i believe (if not then right) that you can hit with a remote missile, i believe this is something thats hinted at over the radio in the original MSX release but was never brought over to the translated versions.

You may have needed a pen and paper to make calls on the transceiver back when the game out, I’m not entirely sure. What I am sure about is that this is not the case when you play this game as part of the collection. For console you press down on your dpad and a list of known frequencies will drop down and you can select any that you have entered or have been informed of previously.

Wow this is a good video series. And one i'm going to binge. Although i'm curious, you do know that there was a different version of this game? When porting the game to America for the NES they had to change things. In Japan the game was made for the MSX, and in that one you start off by swimming into Outer Heaven. Yet in the NES version you start off by parachuting into the area. Thought I bring that up in case you didn't know.

I just beat metal gear last night and my thoughts are pretty much the same as yours. The pacing is seriously on point for a game of that time, up until you get to the roof of building 1, where I started to look stuff up as I was getting frustrated with some of the design choices. By the time I got past the tank and was inside building 2, I was starting to get impatient with sneaking around and exploring at the same time with respawning guards, so I bit the bullet and looked up an ign walkthrough. I will say that by the time I got to building three and did the dirty duck boss I had done away with the walkthrough, though I did pull it up one final time to get the combination for destroying metal gear. Funnily enough I beat big boss in the exact same way that you did lol, that might be the intended way to beat him. Overall, I'm pretty mixed on it too. I guess my biggest gripe is that I wouldn't mind the exploration so much if the guards would just not respawn so that I didn't have to deal with them every single time. 6/10 by modern standards is pretty accurate I would say.

Hi there! I recently found your channel through these metal gear videos and I've been really enjoying them. I've been a fan of the series since 1998, yes I'm old lol, it's always nice to hear opinions from new players/fans. I hope you'll review the NES version one day and do a sort of side by side comparison at the same, trust me the NES version is very different lol. Already liked all your mgs videos and I've already gave you a sub ✌️😁 also, I don't know if you knew this but in this game, you don't have keep manually dial the codec number. After the first call, that's person's codec number gets saved. Just press down ⬇️ on the codec screen and you'll see the list of people you already contacted before.

Kojima put a sour taste for me. When he replaced David Hayter for Keith Sutherland. That makes MGS5 A completely different game to me. It doesn't even feel like metal gear solid. That's why I stopped playing after #4
@lightningmonky7674
@lightningmonky7674 2 ай бұрын
That's awfully petty dude, at least pirate it cause the gameplay is amazing and justifies a playthrough with that alone. However you don't need just that cause in my opinion Sutherland did an amazing job and the story is incredible albeit unfinished
@Xeorty

There's only room for one snake and one big boss... And that is David Hayter. The game just felt alien without the real Snakes voice. Hideo really fked up when he did that. Why I personally not mad with that entire falling out BS with Konami. I'm praying it is probably useless but I hope they will eventually put the real snakes voice into Metal Gear Solid 5.
