Sadly a dwa keeper I know was devastated to have to give up his beautiful animals, they where well kept he is extremely knowledgeable. Just heartbreaking. And your right my insurance for my horse ranges from 30 to 60 a month

This is heartbreaking! I’m an American, but I feel so deeply for y’all. This seems deliberate and malicious in my opinion. Bunk insurance in the first place and now they’re taking even that away! Putting animals down for no other reason than you can’t get them insured seems very similar to what Floridians are dealing with. They’re basically saying “we don’t want you to have these animals so we’ll stop you from keeping them any way we can”. As you said, no member of the public has been injured or killed by these animals and even if they HAD, the insurance wouldn’t cover it because it’s the “keeper’s fault”. Those hidden clauses in things like insurance coverage and legislation are absolutely trying to kill our hobby just because *they* don’t understand why we love our exotic animals. England needs to have someone fighting for them like we do in the US. If it wasn’t for USARK, every American who owns any type of exotic would have lost their animals just because some guy in a suit doesn’t “get it” and because the Department of Fish and Wildlife are trying to get too big for their britches! No one entity should have ultimate say over whether you can keep specific exotic species. We, as keepers, should have a say in this as well. Dogs and cats cause more injuries every year than exotic animals by far, yet no one is trying to force the owners of them to get special insurance or give them up and I find that to be hypocritical in the highest aspect. Without reptile and exotic keepers, there would be several species either extinct or in danger of becoming so and the world would feel the loss keenly. Maybe not now, or even 50 years from now, but you better believe that the loss of them *will* be felt and mourned. I wish there was something I could do to help, but being in another country all I can do is send positive vibes and share this video to get the word out. Are there any government officials that could be written to about this that may sympathize with what’s happening? Mayor, governor… Anyone? As I said I’m American so I unfortunately don’t know how your government works over there. Perhaps a group of keepers could petition other insurance companies to cover exotics? Most big wigs have a hard time saying no to free money and that’s essentially what exotic animal insurance is considering it would take an act of God or Mother Nature to get a payout if something did go wrong. If there’s anything I can do to help, please don’t hesitate to say something! I wish all your friends luck and hope by some miracle things will get sorted. 🤘🏻☺️💕

Keepers will just move underground as in other countries that implemented a ban.

Well if figures I've heard put about are correct, the number of unlicensed keepers far outweigh licensed keepers.

I'm sure a DWA keeper told me a few years ago that he had public liability insurance through an ordinary insurance company. What about Zoo's though, they must have insurance. Animals escape from Zoo's sometimes. Having known quite a number of Zoo Keepers over the years I've been told its not that uncommon. They might not get out of the Zoo grounds but they may still be close to the visiting public.

My local council won't even enter a conversation about the process to attaining a UK DWA Licence. Furthermore the Insurance, if you can find a provider are prohibitively expensive and virtually impossible to comply with.

And yet horses are free to kill multiple people per year with no license needed and a tiny insurance cost.

Hello mate, I’m a new subscriber as this is first time stumbling across your Chanel. It’s heartbreaking to hear what has been going on over here in the uk recently regarding dwa insurance and licensing, as someone who wants to learn more about this field has anything changed or gone ahead concerning the points you have brought up in this video since the new year? Any comment will be appreciated.

Terrible to hear the U.K is going through the same issues as U.S keepers. I really hope you have something like USARK to spread awarness in your country. I know U.K is more strict but I hope the best.

I would like to know what data they based this off of? Incidences of dwa attacks? Costs to NHS (taxpayer funded medical intervention)? Costs to insurance underwriters? I'm sure dogs (and even cats) cost them more in payouts. This should be able to be fought and won. Surely!?

Absolutely gutting news fingers crossed another insurance company comes up and saves the day. I'm gutted to think everyone's loved and honoured animals will be killed for a technicality such as this.

Could you give the snakes to a zoo or Breeder abroad? Maybe people will release them into the wild!? Very scary.
