Wow look at thing grow and grow! I was honestly not as hyped about a European colony. Thinking it wouldn't have as many insects and diverse populations. Boy has this proved me wrong! This setup has so much potential and it's great to see how you are constantly trying to make sure that no one species becomes overly dominant. Like the nightmare slugs hordes in Thai vivarium. Cant wait for the Next episode.

Maybe you should try Venus flytraps, they may not be efficient but they’re pretty damn cool. Pitcher plant also works I have one and they’re very effective

Linepithema humile is known to feed on isopods if they have made their way into your region. Also gives you an excuse to add a new colony that grows incredibly fast.

@@nordicants6232 Try breeding a group of garden centipedes to sustainable numbers within another vivarium then add them. Always a good idea to have breeding pairs of your base insects in case your numbers drop too low.

RETURN OF THE KING!!! the white isopod you found definitely didn't just molt, because isopods mould one half at a time! Source: I keep isopods(specifically porcellio laevis & Armadilidium vulgare). That's just how its colored ^^ I'm no expert, but I think those 'pods in the shot u have are Oniscus asellus or some other oniscus sp? Tip just in case: If you ever find a "bright blue" isopod in your vivarium, look up "iridovirus" and take the infected pod out of the vivarium, it is fatal and could spread to others :(

Do european forest and fence lizards eat isopods? Also, when you make the pond, put some eggs of european tadpole shrimp (triops cancriformis) In it. Would be cool to see if they will make it.

Centipedes are probably the main predator for Isopods/wood lice but you would have to limit the amount you put in as they Will eat, mites, springtails, They also eat worms, spiders and slugs. Depending on the size

Do you have a cover or how are you keeping the slugs from leaving? I've tried fluon like most people use on their ant tanks but the slugs and snails can crawl right over it and leave the tank. I was thinking I'm going to need to get a glass cover.

If you want to control the isopod population i suggest you add some centipedes. Also for the pond, don't add to many plants and let it be somewhat muddy bcoz that is what you see in nature, not always lush green ecosystems. Add some really nice river rocks too. Can't wait to see how it turns out. P.S: You have the most Fantastic vivarium in all of KZbin.

I have a bit of an isopod overpopulation in my own tank. The ants seem disgusted by their smell when I cut them up and they won't attack them even in their own nest. Guess I'll have to start being the isopod predator myself to keep their numbers in check

But be aware that they are cannibals and will gladly eat any pther tripos and then get big and start eating other organisims like worms and unlucky ants and gget even bigger and then can get up to like 6 cm from my experiance

Get one of the lolling eating spider with light tan butt and big red jaws of doom!! (Dysdera Crocata Drury aka sowbug killer) - ur welcome :) im a fellow youtuber but I have tarantulas. I find the killer spider I mentioned above, under rocks here where I live and didnt know their unique diet till later in life. I hope u find it to ur liking. I would enjoy the addition.

This is a wonderful update on the vivarium. It was fascinating to see the ant colonies sharing, but soon enough one will get big enough to become dominant...and that will be interesting indeed. Dysderidae spiders looks ugly but they are great in eating isopods(look for under the stones). pseudoscorpions are really cool insects and will eat small ground creatures(can be found in deciduous forests leaf litter).

Find a huge colony and just grab a smaller portion of it(10-20%of it!) :D injuring the queen is always a risk I guess.

@@nordicants6232 so luck essentially? with wood ants they build pretty huge nests. i have alot of them nearby, do they live inside the piles of wood the create (formica rufa) or do they reside deeper in the ground. ive contemplated making some y-tong nests, and burying them next to nests then disturbing the nest without killing but enough to force a move in hopes theyd use the ytong then collect it.
