Now that Hamilton is out of business it would be cool to do an interview of what it’s really like to run a tool truck. For example how much did he need to get started? How much commission to drivers make? Is it worth getting into?

We called Cornwell, never answered, never returned the call, never showed up. It's pretty common knowledge in my area, the SnapOn dealer isn't the best if your not totally ready to get on, get what you want, get off. I happened to flag down Matco. He came back the next week like he said he would. Been here every week since, unless he has other plans that he let's us know of, ahead of time. Josh James is an awesome dealer. We are very fortunate. The manager ordered a roll cart. It came in this week. In the excitement of seeing it, unloading it, loading it in his pick up, he forgot the keys. Josh got the call, hey, we forgot the keys. Josh got in his personal vehicle, brought the keys by, same day. He doesn't pull the whole, salesman thing on us. He answers our questions, gets what we ask for, as quick as he can. As you've said over and over, and Saud again in this video. The tools are only as good as the person selling them.

Our snap-on dealer finally went under and just this Thursday our new one came after like a month of MIA from our previous dealer. The old one had bad credit with snap-on and would take a long time to get anything ordered and even getting warranty work done. I just ordered the tools I asked for from the previous dealer and got some warranty stuff done after about 4 months of "I can't order it yet". Hope you get another great dealer on your route, snap-on should know how big of an influence you are for their brand or tool brands in general.

Can we get an toolbox tour? Maybe it can take the place of snapon Friday videos or your box, then cart, then other's boxes... Etc. Those custom tools for that very specific bolt and what not. Would be cool to see the differences in brands that people love and they're go to ratchets and their reasoning. Especially with come to power tools.

I looked into a tool truck franchise, did a ride along with a local Mac truck. I took a pass, by the time they loan you 100,000 for the truck and the inventory at 15.99 % you are in the hole for $1400 a month just interest payment. The guy I rode along with sold only one item that day and all he was doing burning fuel doing weekly collections on truck accounts.

I knew something was up with Hamilton and your segments on Fridays. Didn't know if he retired was sick or something else. I've known two Snap on dealers that quit because it was a pain in the ass dealing with customers and the company. I'm seeing fewer and fewer Snap on dealers all the time. They're in a world of hurt right now getting new dealers. With all of these tool companies making some quality tools often times better and much cheaper than Snap on it's getting harder for companies like Snap on to compete with them. Nowadays with online ordering it's just more practical to get a tool vs waiting on your tool guy to show up. Gonna miss Hamilton and your Snap on Fridays. I liked the guy so much and you guys were such a great team. One thing I've learned in life is the older I get the less I like change but so be it.

Maybe a video talking to the tool truck guys discussing how to approach the tool trucks. I've seen a lot of posts about how to buy tool truck tools without a dealer. I am a mobile mechanic and I don't have a shop they can stop by to sell me tools, so I had to figure out how to get setup with them. I personally saw the matco truck on the freeway, took a picture of his number and called him later on. I saw the snap on truck at a shop near my house as I was driving and stopped to talk to him and got his number, he is now my snap on dealer. I reached out to mac thru Facebook and they gave me contact info for a couple of dealers in my area. I don't think a lot of poeple know that you can approach the tool truck or how to do it.

First truck shop I worked at the snap on dealer made fun of my harbor freight ratchets and called them junk and was always trying to sell me a box and It made me never wanna buy a snap on tool then the next shop I worked for had a different dealer and they were absolutely awesome not a hard sale very friendly and they complimented my Matco box I had at the time. Now I have a snap on epiq off their truck and some good tools cause they were just friendly and not pushing product

Sadly, I think we will be losing our snap on dealer very soon also. A lot of what you alluded to about Corporate shoving unwanted tools down the franchisee’s throat and not giving them the support behind the scenes when it comes to repos, unwanted tool promo packs, and rebates. Clay I think you’re right as far as the tool business evolving away from the weekly truck visits, especially with fuel prices and inflation.
@chrisp1742 жыл бұрын
You gotta give your business to the dealer that shows up, shows respect, and shows a want to take care of you. The customer also needs to show a willingness to part with some money if they want said dealer to keep coming by. My shop lost a Snap-On dealer, when they found a new guy to take over the route he would stop by then stopped, turns out he considered the guys in my shop lookers, not buyers. We now only have Cornwell and Mac Tools.

But lineman’s pliers are also hardly ever exposed to any oil and they are uncoated so you may need to wipe them with a light coat of oil. Many tools are sprayed with a clear to help protect them
