I used to have a pet snapping turtle. I found him and he was injured so I took him in, he was just a hatchling and his hibernation had been interrupted. His name was Twiggy, and he was such an interesting pet to have! I love turtles! Unfortunately, Twiggy was sick and didn’t make it. RIP Twiggy ❤️

We live in the middle of nowhere, and there’s a lot of wildlife out here (in the mountains.) we have a creek running through our yard and our neighbors have a pond, so we see a L O T of turtles, including snappers. What my dad usually does to catch and relocate them (For example, if he’s mowing the grass and there’s a turtle in the yard, he’ll move it out of the way until he’s done, or he’ll carry it back up to the pond.) He takes a stick or a metal pole and gets the turtle to latch onto it, then lures or nudges it into a crate or bucket, then takes the metal pole or stick and puts it through the handles of the crate. If he uses a bucket, he puts the turtle in there face down so that it can’t reach up and bite. :)

The sheer amount of pain involved with a bite from the snapping turtle is no joke! When I was 12, I cought one that was about as big around as a dinner plate. Well things could have gone better had I simply payed attention to what I was doing. I took a massive bite to my right leg with the tip of the turtle's beak chewing on it! It was about 15 minutes before I had finally managed to get it off of me. Moral of the story, do not take after my bad habits folks!
