Just did this on my late 70s or early 80s ( haven't been able to narrow down the exact age yet) 21" Snapper. The main difference between the older ones and yours as far as I can see is that the older ones have a looser fitting belt and that slack is taken up by a pullied slack adjuster so it was easier to fit the belt around the crank pulley and then loosen the nut that holds the drive disc to the deck and then feed the other end of the belt under the disc and onto the pulley. I didn't have to pry on the disc or stretch the belt to get the disc mount bolt back through the deck to tighten the nut. It was an easy job. Today I am replacing the shorter transmission belt. I got both belts here locally at Hagans Outdoor Equipment for a little over $18.00. Thanks for the video.

You will require a 7/8 SAE tappet wrench to hold the bushing in order to get the nut off/on with the older models. Regular wrenches are too thick. I obtained an old wrench on ebay far cheaper than a new set. If the nut is rusty just cut it off and replace the drive disc assembly with Stens 240-671 which can be obtained for less than $20 if you shop around online. You can squeeze the belt around the edge of the blade if you are careful.

good video! Could you please tell me the part number for the belt?

I really can not remember that number. What I did was called the Snapper dealer and got the number then ordered it online. ;-) Thanks for stopping by.

the snapper belt is 7012353. the stens belt will work but shorter life. the snapper belt is a scalloped belt. lasts longer won*t roll as bad.

Utterly useless without showing how you got the old driven plate off. Down voted.

you cannot use a reg belt on this mower!!!!. the one you got on ebay is also special for snapper. a normal belt WILL NOT WORK!! hope this comment helps people realise this and stop looking for a belt from an auto parts store.

Makes sense to me. :-) Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you again real soon!

Normal belts can not bend sharply enough. Some eBay belts that claim they work also will not. There is a Toro brand belt that works perfectly that you can get for less than $10, unfortunately I do not have the part number on hand.
