Yep he probably has a healthy relationship with some people within law enforcement and occasionally grasses a few people up over the years so that he can go on doing his thing. That's usually the case when you see a big shot gangster that has been around for a long time. As an example, Guy Ritchie (mega posho with a fetish for working class culture and gangsterism) talked about the Kray twins and how they informed a lot of his writing, given their presence in the underworld and the notoriety to this day. The Kray twins got away with their brutal criminality for many years because they had friends in the police but also friends in politics: they were nonces and supplied young boys to Lord Boothby and other high up people in society. This allowed them to get away with things for a long time. You can be sure that the fictional Brick Top handed over a few rival firms in his time to solidify his position (as well as feeding a few to the pigs of course). "Snitches get stitches" only applies to people at the bottom of the scale, whereas snitching is part of the game for the people at the top.

That's his weakest line. For those of us who grew up in that part of the world and knew the line already - it's as old as the hills - it was telegraphed and obviously coming. Otherwise the dialogue and delivery is very good, if OTT. Guy Ritchie has a bit of fun with the lingo in his films. It was funny hearing Mockneys talking about going down the 'nuclear sub' when, if anyone was ever going to use the navy-related slang term, the correct word was 'battlecruiser'.

I respectfully disagree. Bricktop was ruthless and not at all forgiving -- an absolute psychopath -- as shown in the scene where he had the two guys killed for almost no reason. He was an opportunist, and only showed any mercy when he saw a profit in it. He only let the pawn guys go because Sol told him about the diamond. If they didn't get it for him, they surely would have ended up as pig food. Let's not forget that he ordered a massacre -- men, women, and children, merely as punishment for Mickey winning his fight.

If you haven't seen Sexy Beast, please try it, Ben Kingsleys character Don, is absolutely terrifying. This from the man that was Ghandi, what an actor.

Crazy thing is Alan Ford. Who plays brick top is pretty much like that in real life.. There's an interview on You tube here where he is being interviewed by Alan Partridge (Steve Coogan) and Alan Ford is quite an intimidating guy.. he looks like he is holding back his annoyance and could blow any time
