What most people tend to forget is that there is a brilliant feature called EQ which is a standard on most electronic devices these days. The Beats Pros are actually a very good sounding headphone when equalized properly. In my opinion, the midrange and treble are very clean & rich while the bass response keeps it from sounding completely lifeless. Truth be told I think the M50s and the Pros are both great sets of headphones in their own unique ways and will suit different types of people very well. It really irks me when people get headphones like the ATH-M50 and think that they are just so superior to everyone else when they might not know jack shit about audio. Everyone hears music differently so naturally they also have different sound preferences. Why don't we all just get whatever headphones fit our needs the best and stop bashing people for their audio preferences.

Dude! Thank you so much for reviewing this product! I am a drummer myself and starting to work in studios and producing/mixing/editing music and was considering getting these headphones. Thought I'd check out some reviews before blindly making up my mind and this really helped me out a lot! I'm satisfied with your review and everything you spoke about, more importantly the musician/producer side to it as it suits me perfectly! Anyway, just wanted to say its a great review because it isn't another average consumer review. Good job bro and thanks. :)

I think the criticism of these is warranted....they would not be bashed if they were priced lower but if you compare them to almost anything even at half the cost they are easily surpassed in sound quality ...but to each their own...meaning if you enjoy them great I won't bash anyone for having a different opinion ...however if you compare them to the Sennheiser HD-650 I've yet to find anyone who prefers Beats .

I have owned these for four years now. The fake leather has fallen apart and the sound quality has gone from acceptable to awful. The mids and highs are utterly terrible now (distorted and dwarfed by the bass). I honestly think that people who recommend these don't know what they're talking about. Audio Technica is so, so much better and a fraction of the price.

There is no mute button because for the dual-jack-system you have parallel wiring. Means you'd have to press a button on each side to mute. Then it's just easier to just free one ear or just pause.
@Arcanineisthebest12 жыл бұрын
OH, btw, the button is a quality of the "noise cancelling" headphones, which is the category the beats studio belong, the PROs are not meant to be "noise cancelling", so they don't have that. The batteries are also a caractheristic of the noise cancelling headphones. I don't know why did monster called them "studio" when those are noise cancellling. Weird.

If using a laptop only, no. You would need some DAC and amplifier as well. For the price of Pro's, you could get headphones such as Beyerdynamic DT990, DT770 or Audio Technica M50 (all overall good with pretty balanced sound), or Audio Technica Pro700mk2 or Sony XB700, if you want bass boosted sound for rap. And then you can get an entry level DAC + amp. Something like Fiio E7+E9, Audinst HUD-MX1, Matrix Cube, etc. And you'd get much better sound that way.
@69KronoS6911 жыл бұрын
Usually there is no comparison in sound quality. Try them with an uncompressed file, or a file with a good compression, like for example a simple 256kbps AAC from iTunes. Only a few people can't notice that the Beats' bass section is muddy, pumped and undetailed. Simply equalizing the HD518's, the cheapest pair that I own, buyed at 68€ on amazon.it (retail value 120€), I can obtain an (unwanted) huge, ear shaking, bigger bass response, light years more detailed. And they're OPEN cans.

it really depends on what your looking for if you want something for walking around with i would get the momentum or 449 (closed back short cable and half the price of the momentum). if you want something for in home use only get the 598 as they are open back and have a ten foot cable it also keep in mind that all senns above the 598 are 300 ohm and will require an amp

@brendenn1214 жыл бұрын
@cooperobriant1 You forgot that inside the media player the digital audio file has to be converted with a DAC so that your headphones can recieve and make use of the signal. Depending on the quality of the DAC and other hardware, the recordings fidelity could be lost. If fidelity is lost, this means that the signal on the output is lower quality that the original recording on the input. Obviously when this happens, the sound quality will be crap compared to a media player with better hardware

One thing to note I was and am a person who doesn't really like Beats by Dre and see it as a fashion statement but do note that people who like beats for the looks aren't really educated in headphone sound quality Beats by dre are very good a marketing headphone in professional way to attract consumers and make them think they are prosumers because they paid a hefty price tag If you like beats and know what your getting into then be my guest but be prepared for the realisation.

now that i think about it, i think Monster was able to make "big" headphones more friendly and less nerdy. I think a lot of people wanted to wear big headphones in public, but they look stupid. Probably why they called the big ones "studio" and "pro" too, so they weren't actually telling you to wear these in public, but people want to(thats the key). People want to wear their big headphones in public as a sign of their love of music.

From this review, I take it that you like these headphones. I'm looking to get a new set of headphones to play through a High quality stereo, and occasionally through an iPod. I was looking at these, the Sennheiser Hd 518's, as well as the Sennheiser Hd 558's. I have a pre-assumption that the Sennheiser's are the better buy, because of the price and sound, but the Pro's do look great, and have excellent build quality. Your thoughts would be greatly apporeciated

i can concur that the player can have an effect on your listening experience with the pros (or probably any decent headphones) ...i have an ipod classic and recently ripped a higher bit rate of the tron legacy soundtrack (641bit rate with songs averaging 18MB a piece) while my g'friend purchased a lossless copy through itunes for her iphone...the pros on my classic captures some lows not present on the iphone version and the mids are so velvety it kinda makes you giddy.

What is he is trying to say when you got lost in his lingo.. is that if your headphones are worth more then your device then don't spend the money because you won't get the best out of it. It all comes down to what you use headphones for, he was saying that Apple products not commuters but shuffles iphones aren't focused on putting out the best quality music but rather other uses so don't spend $100's of dollars on headphones because your 4th gen iPod won't be able to give you the best quality.

Sorry *powerful* Also, I think you got a little mixed up about lossless files. Lossless is definitely the best audio quality besides WAV files, but lossless still uses compression. Hardly any, but it's still there. A WAV file or a typical CD will give you uncompressed audio, but not a lossless file like FLAC or Apple Lossless.
