Just took these boots through a hike today… they are comfortable. As a US veteran, I can definitely say these are some of the best boots. I’ll purchase my third pair of African Rangers-bison/buffalo version.

Great video and wonderful scenery! My Jim Green African Rangers have become my go-to boot. They are so comfortable! And the comparison to sneakers is a good one. They can perform like a sneaker, but they give you the sturdiness, protection, and toughness of a boot. I'm in the northeast U.S. and they've even done well (with grip) in the snow. Although if we have a lot of snow I wear an 8" insulated boot.

Lovely shoe, just the sole that hurts my feet had to buy new soles. But definitely my style of a shoe and very comfortable around the foot!

I've tried the African Rangers, and I could tell right away I was going to get blisters on my heels, I noticed that the heels of their boot are massive allowing a lot of side to side movement, but worst of all, there is no real cup that holds the heel of the boot to your foot. It's a straight shot from the top of the boot to the bottom like an L . It allows for way too much heel movement vertically inside the boot, resulting in the blisters you see them get. If Jim Green could cinch in the upper cuff/upper heel of the boot to make it pull tight around the Achilles, they would be near perfect. I wanted to love them, but that one flaw killed the boots for me.

What a epic hike! I have the Razorbacks, they are great. Looking forward to a pair of Rangers. Just not sure what leather to get. The addition of the buffalo makes the choice harder!

I am wearing my African Rangers in the cold Northeastern US - pretty much the exact opposite of the climate shown in the video. I think new owners should expect a break-in period of about a week. After that, they are fantastic. Mine are treated with Renapur, and they darkened up a bit (which I wanted, as they went from the light “fudge” crazy horse color to a really nice slightly reddish chestnut brown) and they gained some light water resistance as well. I’ve worn them in the rain and a bit of snow, and have been impressed with the traction, despite not being made for this environment. With wool socks, they have been awesome. For boots NOT advertised as cold weather or inclement weather footwear, I am really impressed… but not surprised; even though these are unlined, the leather is supple but thick, and around the toe box in particular you have around 4mm of leather between you and the elements. For me, these are a pair of thick socks away from being good three season footwear (or four seasons if you have a mild winter like we are having right now).

You are a very fit group. That scenery is similar to some of the southwestern United States, our desert isn't quite as big, I have the dark brown Rangers and they are great. I'm looking forward to getting my Buffalo ones in May

Why do you use wedge soles for african ranger instead of lug? Isn't lug better for hiking? Will african rangers ever be available in lug sole, like the razorback?
